Deviant Kings: Claimed by The Four Lycan Kings
Chapter 20: Too Late to HideAdeline’s pov~
Blake let out a sharp, frustrated breath. He didn’t drop it. Instead, he reached out, grabbed one of the heavy wooden classroom chairs, and dragged it backwards with a loud, scraping screech against the marble floor.
He turned it around and sat down directly in front of my desk, leaning his forearms against the backrest.
Keiran didn’t sit. He simply moved with that terrifying, quiet grace, stepping right up to the edge of my desk, towering over me like a shadow that was about to suffocate the entire room.
They were completely surrounding me.
"Look at me, Adeline," Keiran commanded, his voice dropping into a low, deadly serious register. "You don’t just walk up to a Lycan King, strike him in front of the entire academy, and then tell us it’s nothing. You told him to stay out of your way. You told him you’d stay away from Raven. Why?"
I didn’t answer. I lowered my head even further, staring intently at the scratches on the wooden desk.
"Did he threaten you in the library after I left?" Keiran’s gravelly voice rasped from above. The sheer authority in his tone vibrated right through the wood, pressing heavily against my chest. "Those three men security dragged to the cells—did they have something to do with you?"
My heart did a violent, agonising thud against my bruised ribs. I bit the inside of my cheek, tasting the faint trace of copper, forcing myself to remain completely stoic. Don’t speak. Don’t tell them anything. If I let slip even a fraction of what happened last night, the fragile peace between the Four Thrones would shatter, and Raven would be dragged right into the centre of the crossfire.I just want to be invisible. Away from everyone. From those all four mighty thrones. Mighty, huh? my ass!
"Adeline," Blake pushed, leaning in closer until I could feel the intense heat radiating off his chest. "Talk to us. You’re trembling. If he did something to you—if he crossed a line—you need to tell us. We can’t help you if you keep hiding behind that damn hoodie."
I kept my hands shoved deep inside my pockets, my knuckles turning white as I clenched my fists. I squeezed my eyes shut in the darkness of my hood, refusing to give them a single word, a single look, or a single tear.
I just sat there, a silent ghost, letting their questions echo uselessly against the empty walls.
"I don’t want your help with anything. There is nothing!" I snapped, my voice finally cutting through the suffocating pressure of the room like a jagged glass shard. I lifted my head just enough to glare at Blake through the dark shadow of my fleece.
"And even if there was, why the hell would I tell you? Why would I believe a single word out of your mouths? You’re all the same. You’re highborns. You think the entire world is just a playground built for your titles."
Blake’s jaw tightened, his dark eyes flashing with a sudden, serious anger. He leaned in even closer, his presence turning heavy and demanding. "We are trying to protect the alliance of this academy, Adeline. If Zyran is operating something—"
"I don’t care about your alliance!" I fired back, my voice trembling with the raw, volatile energy of everything I was trying to suppress.
"Don’t play the stubborn victim with us," Keiran rasped, his gravelly tone dropping into a lethal, low growl that vibrated through the floorboards.
He slammed his large, veiny hand onto the edge of my desk, towering over me. As if he were intentionally trying to provoke me to get a reaction out of me; otherwise, why would a man who is always in the shadows, silent, observing come forward to command? "You’re hiding something. You’re acting like a pathetic, broken coward shivering in a corner, refusing to—"
"ENOUGH!!!"
The word ripped from my throat as a scream of pure, unadulterated rage.
With every single ounce of strength left in my battered body, I slammed both of my palms flat against the heavy wooden table. The violent impact echoed through the empty classroom like a thunderclap, the wood groaning under the sudden, furious force.
The sheer physical exertion sent a blinding, white-hot blade of agony tearing straight through my crushed ribcage. I gasped, my lungs seizing, and the sudden jerk of my head pulled the rim of my oversized black hoodie clean off my face. The heavy fabric slid back, completely exposing me to the harsh, dust-speckled light of the classroom.
Blake and Keiran both froze, their words instantly dying in their throats as a stunned, heavy silence slammed across the room.
But their eyes didn’t look at my furious glare. Their gazes instantly snagged, locking onto my face with absolute, rigid shock.
Without the shadow of the hood, there was nowhere left to hide. The entire left side of my cheekbone was disfigured by a sickening, dark purple bruise, swollen and raw. And right there on my lower lip was the jagged, blood-crusted split, still stained with a faint trace of copper.
For the first time since they had entered the room, the two Lycans looked completely breathless, their lethal pressure instantly shattering as they stared at the damage written across my skin.
The instant I saw their eyes freeze on my skin, reality slammed back into me. Panicked, I yanked the edges of my heavy black hood forward with a violent, painful jerk, burying my face back into the dark fleece.
But it was too late. The damage was done. They had seen it.
"Who did that to you?" Blake’s voice was no longer calculating; it was dangerously quiet, vibrating with a raw, protective lycan anger that made the air in the room turn heavy. He stood up from his chair so fast it screeched against the floor loudly. "Adeline. Who touched you?"
"Look at me," Keiran commanded, his gravelly voice dropping into a terrifying, low rumble. He leaned over the desk, his massive hands clenching into fists as his eyes tried to pierce the shadow of my hood. "Those omegas from last night. Did they do this to you?"
"It is none of your business!" I screamed back, my voice cracking under the weight of the agony in my ribs and the absolute fury in my soul. I pushed myself back against the chair, my hands shaking inside my pockets as I glared at the desk. "Nobody did anything to me! I fell. I was clumsy. It’s nothing!"
"Don’t give us that garbage!" Blake snapped, stepping closer, his presence suffocating. "You don’t get a split lip and a bruised jaw from being clumsy. Tell us the truth—"
"I said get out!" I barked, my voice a sharp, unyielding wire that cut off his words.
