Deviant Kings: Claimed by The Four Lycan Kings
Chapter 25: Guarding His TargetAuthor’s pov~
Someone wants Adeline dead. If its not Zyran who ordered the execution then who is it?
"We saw Adeline’s face, Zyran," Blake cut in, his gravelly voice dropping into a low, threatening rumble that vibrated against the stone walls. He stepped closer, crowding Zyran’s space, his eyes flashing with a dangerous, protective heat.
"Her entire left cheek is disfigured by a purple bruise. Her lip is split open. She claims nobody touched her, but she’s terrified out of her mind. And the moment we pushed her for answers, she screamed at us to stay the fuck away from her, saying she already told you she would stay away from Raven and us as well. What is going on between you both? Did you do something?"
Keiran leaned in, his dark eyes burning with a rare, volatile fury. "We want to know exactly what is going on. So, you are going to stand there and tell us exactly what is going on between you two. She publicly humiliated you today. She walked right up to a Prince of the Throne and slapped you hard enough to leave a handprint on your face in front of the entire academy. By every law of the Thrones, you should have torn her throat out on the spot. You have killed people for merely looking at you wrong. But you stayed completely quiet. You let her walk away."
"And now," Blake rasped, gesturing aggressively toward the open, bloody cell behind Zyran, "you come down to the dungeons and violently rip the throats out of the only three witnesses who knew who breached the perimeter last night. It is highly unusual for you to stay quiet after being struck, Zyran. Unless you’re trying to hide the fact that you’re the one who ordered those wolves to beat her."
"You think I did that?!" Zyran roared, his restraint completely snapping as he lunged forward, grabbing the front of Blake’s jacket with his bloody hands. The air between the three Lycan’s instantly turned volatile, their competing powers clashing so violently the air felt hard to breathe. "You think I would order a pack of rogue omegas to violate a defenseless girl? To break her bones and leave her bleeding in the dirt?!"
"Then explain it!" Blake barked back, not flinching away from Zyran’s grip, his own hands clenching into fists. "What is exactly going on? She slapped you publicly and you stayed quiet. Now, she is in her classroom broken, hurt refusing to tell us what happened to her, she fucking refused to accept her help. And now, here you are ripping those omega’s throat off. You are going insane over something and something is terribly wrong."
Zyran slowly let go of Blake’s jacket, his hands trembling slightly as he stepped back, the volcanic rage in his chest suddenly collapsing into a dark, heavy weight. He looked at his brothers, his voice dropping into a raw, hollow whisper that sounded entirely defeated.
"I sent the omegas to scare her away," Zyran confessed, his golden eyes filled with a dangerous, quiet panic. "I put out a standard watch order to scare her away from Raven. To keep her out of our business. But someone else intercepts the command. Someone with a massive payout who wanted her dead. The omegas took both jobs. They thought they could satisfy my warning by beating her first, and then finish the execution in the woods. Someone ordered these omegas to kill her, to break her completely and throw her away in the woods dead. Someone is after her. They wanted her dead."
Keiran’s dark eyes widened slightly, the heavy accusation in his posture instantly shattering into rigid, calculating shock. "Someone wanted her dead? A scentless human?"
"Yes," Zyran hissed, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle jumped. "And because I was an arrogant bastard who wanted her gone, I gave the real killer the perfect cover. She thinks I did it. And the worst part? I can’t even clear my name, because whoever paid those wolves left absolutely nothing behind. They are completely anonymous. Those bastards whoever did this left no trace."
Blake and Keiran exchanged a swift, tense look. The gravity of the situation slammed into the corridor, replacing the immediate threat of a fight with a cold, strategic dread.
If someone was targeting a civilian within the academy walls using royal communication channels, it meant the threat wasn’t just external, it was sitting right at their table.
"An anonymous hit inside the perimeter," Blake muttered, his anger turning into a sharp, focused calculation. He ran a hand over his jaw, looking back at the blood-slicked doorway of the cell.
"If they have access to your network, Zyran, this isn’t some random rogue grudge. This is internal. Someone within the high houses wants her eliminated, and they wanted your hands on the weapon when it happened."
"They wanted the blame to land squarely on the Third Throne," Keiran rasped, his eyes narrowing as he put the pieces together. He stepped closer to Zyran, his voice dropping to a low, heavy rumble. "Think about it. Adeline hits you. You retaliate by destroying her. The alliance with Raven shatters before it even begins, and the Thrones tear each other apart from the inside. It’s a setup for a civil war."
"I don’t give a damn about the politics right now," Zyran growled, his fists clenching so hard the fresh blood on his knuckles began to drip again.
He looked down the dark hallway, his mind violently looping back to the way Adeline had flinched away from him, the absolute terror hidden behind her cold, deadpan facade. "She’s out there right now, broken, bleeding, and convinced that I am the monster who orchestrated her execution. She won’t accept protection. She won’t take help. If that ghost comes back to finish the job, she will face them entirely alone because she doesn’t trust a single soul wearing a crest."
The one who wants her gone, out of this academy is now wants to protect her?
"Then we watch her from the shadows," Blake said firmly, his eyes locking onto Zyran’s. "We don’t force our presence on her. If we crowd her now, she’ll run right out of the academy gates, and that’s exactly what the killer wants. We put an invisible perimeter around her. No one touches her. Not until we find out who bought those omegas."
