War Qichen was left speechless by Dou Yanlan’s words. If he could, he wouldn’t want to become the way he is now, but unfortunately...
"Things that are destined to happen will eventually happen. However, the records here are a bit strange. According to the descriptions above, this entire research facility was supposedly created by Feng En’s Dream Space. But how could he alone make use of such a large area? Not to mention, there are records of multiple laboratories on this site."
Although the effective information in the logs was scattered, after summarizing and organizing, Feng Yuan found that this research facility was more or less the same as a conventional research institute, generally operating under conditions where multiple experimental projects were conducted simultaneously.
However, the entire research facility was Feng En’s Dream Space. Logically, only the parts he personally experienced should be complete. This is a common state of dreams, yet could indirect information alone really provide such comprehensive details?
"Perhaps it’s just a background, like the non-existent areas handled in Big Cat’s games."
Veronia didn’t find this particularly surprising. After all, since she had tried Big Cat’s games, she naturally knew how the areas not present in the games were described. In fact, if she hadn’t asked Big Cat, she might have thought, like the players in the game did, that those areas only present in the background were already in the game, just without a way to reach them.
"A background, huh? But with this level of detail..."
Feng Yuan felt it seemed less likely, but if it were this complete, it also didn’t quite resemble the power of a dream. After all, dreams are primarily based on imagination and do not inherently possess the power to fill in gaps. Or even if they could supplement some settings, due to issues like rules, it would appear to have a kind of discordant feeling.
However, the records here didn’t have that feeling, which took Feng Yuan by surprise.
It was as if this research facility indeed had so many research projects existing simultaneously, yet Feng En had little involvement in those projects. Logically, this part shouldn’t have been materialized.
"We’ll only know by taking a look. According to the records, if the Spirit Realm Laboratory truly exists, this place might not be that simple."
Without Feng Yuan needing to say much, Veronia also knew how complex this situation could get. Dreams don’t fill in unnecessary parts, meaning that areas outside of Feng En’s understanding might not be that simple. Commonly, it could be multiple people sharing a single dream, but there might also be other reasons.
What Feng Yuan feared most was that this thing was not merely a simple dream, or rather, the dream was just a prelude...
The dilapidated research facility bore no name. At least, none appeared on the several terminals Feng Yuan and the others checked. Those terminals located in the corridors were filled with various daily logs, most of them complaining. If not for knowing the truth of this research facility, one might have thought that the researcher named Feng En was an unparalleled genius.
Yet, the truth was quite different. The existence of Chaos Technology put a question mark on how much of the other’s research had practical value. Even if this dream could simulate an almost complete reality, it still wasn’t reality. Conclusions drawn here might ultimately become a joke with significant flaws.
The root of the problem lies in whether the equipment used by the other actually exists in reality. According to the accounts Feng Yuan read, it seemed that the other party hadn’t encountered a situation where the equipment was insufficient to support the corresponding research.
"In some sense, this space is truly terrifying."
Veronia went from being unconcerned to being wary. Feng Yuan understood exactly what happened. Such a place for unrestricted research is paradise for humans, yet also marks the beginning of technology spiraling out of control.
Such a special area allows humans to research anything they want without restraint. However, humans often end up creating weapons capable of their own destruction. No, to be more accurate, even Divine Beings are the same.
"The Dream Come True Space, at least from the clues so far, leans more toward being beneficial, but... I don’t believe this is anything good."
Recalling the oddities of the Qi Realm, Feng Yuan absolutely doesn’t believe this space is something benign. Rather, although everything observed so far seems advantageous, there must be hidden dangers among them, dangers that might far exceed the benefits.
With the Qi Realm’s malevolence, it’s almost impossible to convince Feng Yuan that this Dream Come True Space isn’t dangerous.
"Such tremendous benefits given for no reason, without any cost, seem untrustworthy."
Dou Yanlan slowly began to speak. After encountering so many events with Feng Yuan, Dou Yanlan knew well that great benefits often come with a price. The idea of a jackpot dropping from the sky, even if it really happened, surely has its reasons.
Such power that bypasses reality’s limitations seems like a miracle, yet she doesn’t see the cost of the miracle.
"Maybe the destruction here is related to this?"
War Qichen also didn’t believe such a beneficial setup could exist, where one could wantonly conduct their research in the Dream Space without any cost.
"Hard to say. Though there’s a considerable possibility, it might also be just a case of playing out of bounds."
Shrugging, Feng Yuan neither agreed nor disagreed. This possibility existed, but Feng Yuan felt it wasn’t that probable. After all, the probability of biochemistry experiments going awry was quite high, especially without the assistance of Divine Beasts making it even more so.
This is also why illegal organizations in the Main World rarely involve themselves in biochemical experiments. They wish to, but they need the means to go through with it, or more accurately, the ability to fix mishaps themselves. Otherwise, if something goes wrong, it’ll definitely attract Divine Beasts.
"Is it possible that even Dream Come True can’t avoid accidents?"
Veronia looked at Feng Yuan suspiciously, to which he smiled and said
"Accidents are sometimes the shortcuts to success, not to mention the situation here is somewhat special."
Although the logs mostly centered around Feng En’s perspective, the research laboratories mentioned were numerous. Feng Yuan didn’t believe they were just set decorations. But if so, why would they materialize to such an extent?
The Qi Realm, is it really just a warped Dream Space?
Feng Yuan and the rest continued heading towards Feng En’s laboratory. The collapsed passages caused them quite a bit of trouble. Debris blocked their way, and they had to carefully move it aside. Considering the average number of layers for the entire facility was three, and they were currently on the first floor, a careless move might trigger another collapse.
"A notebook? This thing might have some useful clues."
During the process of clearing away rubble, Veronia found a deep brown leather notebook in the wreckage. Opening it, she was surprised to find the writing could be interpreted using translation-type Ultimate Moves.
"It’s not dream language, surprisingly."
"Mm-hmm..."
"Still mostly useless daily stuff, yet there was one peculiar clue."
Quickly perusing the notebook’s content, Veronia tossed it to Feng Yuan and said. Taking it in puzzlement, Feng Yuan swiftly browsed through it. The complaints exceeded those in the terminals, and towards the end, it seemed the person increasingly descended into madness—at least, the sentences were no longer coherent, rather jumbled and disorderly.
But most concerning to Feng Yuan was the phenomenon named "calamity-forming" that the person feared.
Massaging his brow, Feng Yuan handed the notebook to War Qichen. They could understand it as well, and indeed, it was something that warranted vigilance.
"What do you think calamity-forming is?"
Veronia glanced at Feng Yuan as she spoke. Rolling his eyes, Feng Yuan replied in mock irritation
"How would I know? But according to the notebook’s contents, calamity-forming should be akin to the Endu incident. They both transpired in the real world. Tsk, if it weren’t for the inconvenience, I’d genuinely want to go back and ask this world’s Dou Yanlan what those two things are."
Although no specific information on inside details was recorded, the fear Feng En expressed in the notebook was more intense than that of the Endu incident. Or rather, the Endu incident evoked concern and distrust, while calamity-forming seemed to evoke deep-seated fear.
Almost as if it were a doomsday event.
