"Who are you?!"
Unlike Qi Realm Dou Yanlan, Han Qiuyue stared warily at the man who suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Though she didn’t recognize Feng Yuan, she was very clear that if he were some proper, normal person, he absolutely wouldn’t just pop up here.
"Me? You could say I’m her... friend? But is this how you treat the people who come to help you?"
Seeing how tense they were, Feng Yuan was a bit helpless. He’d thought people here would be quite hospitable. Qi Realm Dou Yanlan hurriedly stopped Han Qiuyue and briefly explained the current situation to Feng Yuan.
There was no helping it. Even for her, seeing Feng Yuan suddenly appear here made her suspicious. But thinking it through carefully, it didn’t really feel like some sort of self‑sacrificing ploy, because no matter how she looked at it, the other party had no need to go through so much trouble.
"You were reassigned here because of some other mission? That’s quite a coincidence. Whatever. As for the Qi Realm, we’ve actually dug up some stuff, and it just so happens there are a few things I wanted to ask you about."
Although Qi Realm Dou Yanlan hadn’t clearly explained why exactly she’d been transferred to this city, Feng Yuan could guess it definitely wasn’t as trivial as she made it sound. Still, he had no intention of pressing. Hearing what Feng Yuan said, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan got a bit excited. Had they really discovered something inside the Qi Realm?!
Feng Yuan had only trapped those Soul Projections; in the end, it was Han Qiuyue and the others who used special tools to completely scatter the Soul Projections. In Feng Yuan’s view, though, this seemed like a pretty good choice. At the very least, compared to direct annihilation, scattering the Soul Projections didn’t have too big an impact on the originals.
In a temporary reception room, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan was hosting Feng Yuan and his group. The faint sense of being monitored made Feng Yuan realize something, but he didn’t point it out. Putting himself in their shoes, if it were him, he’d probably do the same. If this world didn’t understand time lines, then being extremely wary of their appearance was perfectly normal.
Or rather, even in the Main World’s Great Xia, when they were negotiating an alliance with East Continent Great Xia behind War Qichen, they never let their guard down either.
"Hmm, this is the intel we’ve gathered. The Qi Realm should be a world of Soul Projections. People from your world probably all have Soul Projections there. As for why there are so many layers, and what exactly that pollution that tempts people into madness is, I don’t know."
He briefly went over their conclusions about the Qi Realm for Qi Realm Dou Yanlan. Before she could say anything, Feng Yuan continued,
"What we can now confirm is that the ones who attacked Qi Chen and the others were probably your Soul Projection in the Qi Realm. Do you have any thoughts on that? Or rather, why would your Soul Projection choose to attack them?"
This was the part Feng Yuan couldn’t figure out. If Qi Realm Dou Yanlan and Peculiar Realm Qi Chen had some conflict, that would be one thing, but the way she acted wasn’t much different from the Dou Yanlan of the other timelines. At the very least, their relationship was good in all of them.
That was precisely what Feng Yuan couldn’t wrap his head around. If that was the case, then why would Qi Realm Dou Yanlan’s Soul Projection go looking for trouble with Qi Chen and the others?
"It attacked them because of the thoughts in my heart?"
"That... I’m not sure. But... if it really is my Soul Projection, then why would it run to another timeline to launch an attack?"
Qi Realm Dou Yanlan didn’t fully believe Feng Yuan, because she couldn’t comprehend this. According to him, the one who attacked the other timelines’ Qi Chen was her own Soul Projection in the Qi Realm.
Yet she knew nothing about the existence of other timelines. Why would her Soul Projection cross timelines to attack them?
"Wait, in the depths of the Qi Realm, are there really only Soul Projections?"
Thinking of something, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan looked at Feng Yuan and the others, trying to confirm a point. Seeing her expression, Feng Yuan, puzzled, asked,
"What else were you hoping to find?"
"This... did you run into this thing?"
After hesitating for a moment, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan took out the photo she carried on her, the last picture Peculiar Realm Qi Chen had sent her. Looking at the Peculiar Realm Qi Chen in the photo, Feng Yuan didn’t really understand what she meant.
"You mean this world’s Qi Chen’s Soul Projection? We probably didn’t run into it, because we were forced to use a large‑scale Offensive Ultimate Move halfway through, so..."
"No, I mean this."
Seeing that he misunderstood, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan pointed at the corner of the photo.
"Did you see anything related to this?"
As for any Soul Projection Peculiar Realm Qi Chen might have left behind, she wasn’t all that concerned, because she knew very clearly that even if it retained some of Peculiar Realm Qi Chen’s memories, it still wasn’t him, so naturally she couldn’t have any special feelings about it.
Following where she pointed, Feng Yuan still didn’t really understand what exactly Qi Realm Dou Yanlan was asking. After carefully examining it for a while, he said,
"You mean that thing that looks like some kind of research institute? We did run into it. There’s a precipitated research institute in the Deep Layer of the Qi Realm. That thing seems to be connected to someone called Feng En. I’m not too clear on the details, but I figure this Feng En guy must have used some method to sneak into the Qi Realm and, using its power, conjured that institute out of thin air."
Feng Yuan still wasn’t sure if this was what she was asking about. After all, what showed up in the photo wasn’t particularly clear, and he couldn’t guess what exactly she wanted to know from this question.
"Feng En?!"
To Feng Yuan’s surprise, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan and Han Qiuyue reacted very strongly to this name. Han Qiuyue because she had just seen it, and Qi Realm Dou Yanlan because she hadn’t expected that thing to actually be related to him.
"Oh? You know him? An acquaintance?"
Seeing their big reaction, Feng Yuan was intrigued. Qi Realm Dou Yanlan and Han Qiuyue didn’t seem to know much about the depths of the Qi Realm, yet they knew a guy who’d clearly done extensive research on it?
Exactly. Though there was no solid evidence, Feng Yuan had a hunch that this Feng En probably knew quite a lot about the Qi Realm; otherwise that institute wouldn’t be what it was.
"Can you tell me in detail what you encountered in the Qi Realm that had to do with Feng En?"
There was no way Qi Realm Dou Yanlan could just shrug it off, because Feng Yuan might be able to explain some of the questions in her heart.
After getting a detailed account of that abandoned institute from Feng Yuan, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan and Han Qiuyue exchanged a look. They hadn’t expected this to be the answer.
"So you’re saying that Feng En, without most of us knowing, discovered that he could use the Qi Realm for research, and even managed to develop so many unbelievable things..."
At this point, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Han Qiuyue didn’t fully believe Feng Yuan yet, but this didn’t seem impossible to verify. After all, in the Deep Layer of the Qi Realm, as long as you didn’t care about sacrifices, it wasn’t impossible to find a specific thing there.
Taking a deep breath, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan looked at Feng Yuan and said,
"Actually, I’ve never met Feng En. Or rather, while I’ve read his research reports, as for the person himself, I really don’t know much. After all, he’s been dead for over ten years. And compared to his actual name, we’re more used to calling him... Dr. Feng."
She never imagined that Dr. Feng’s reports, quite a few of them, had conclusions drawn from that special institute inside the Qi Realm. After listening to Qi Realm Dou Yanlan explain Dr. Feng’s deeds, Feng Yuan said in some surprise,
"He really was quite a talent. Using the power of the Qi Realm to push past your technological limits and dig up so much utterly useless knowledge."
That’s right. From Feng Yuan’s perspective, Dr. Feng’s reports generally weren’t of much use to the people of this world. After all, his research process and conclusions had already gone far beyond the realm of conventional technology. Stuff like that really didn’t have much practical value.
Since no one else could take over this line of research and continue expanding it.
"But... using the Qi Realm to probe into a time line war?"
Frowning slightly, Feng Yuan realized things weren’t that simple. But thinking about it, it wasn’t that strange either. Time corrections were happening all the time, and even the Qi Realm Timeline couldn’t escape them.
Feng Yuan knew very well that what the other party called "detecting a time line war" was entirely because the Qi Realm Timeline appeared and then got pulled into time correction.
That is, the time line war happened first. Even if, in the normal time line, Feng En’s death came earlier than the outbreak of the time line war, because of the nature of his research, time correction occurred and made him "predict" the existence of the time line war in a way that looked like prophecy.
