Zhao Yuan had already reached the edge of the stage and was about to exit when the roaring cheers from behind him made him jump and stop in his tracks.
The two hosts rushed to his side and opened their mouths to say something, but the cheers were so loud he couldn't hear a thing. He had to shout, "What are you saying? I can't hear you! Louder!"
The male host tried saying a few more things, but Zhao Yuan still couldn't make out a single word. The female host, however, was quick on the uptake. She pulled her phone out of her pocket, typed out a message, and showed it to Zhao Yuan: "The crowd is going wild for you. Can you do an encore?"
Seeing this, the male host finally got the picture. He hurriedly took out his own phone and also typed a message for Zhao Yuan: "Zhao Yuan, your last performance was brilliant, but it was too short. The next act isn't ready yet. Could you perform again to buy us some time?"
To be honest, the crowd's enthusiasm made it incredibly difficult to refuse. So, he nodded, agreeing to the hosts' request, and walked back to the center of the stage.
Seeing Zhao Yuan return to the stage, the auditorium instantly erupted in a tsunami of deafening applause and cheers.
Once the crowd had finally settled down a little, Zhao Yuan turned and signaled to the hosts for a microphone.
The auditorium fell silent in an instant, everyone waiting for Zhao Yuan to speak.
This scene filled Ma Guotao with both emotion and envy. 'It'd be amazing if the students could quiet down this quickly whenever I give a speech.'
Taking the microphone, Zhao Yuan said with a smile, "I'm truly flattered by everyone's enthusiasm. To be honest, I'm not really an expert at magic; I was just making it up as I went. I was so nervous up here, terrified I was going to mess up. Luckily, you were all a great audience, so I managed not to make a fool of myself."
As soon as he said this, everyone laughed and playfully booed.
They all thought Zhao Yuan was being far too modest. That last trick was absolutely incredible!
In reality, Zhao Yuan was saying this on purpose with a single goal in mind: to make people believe he was performing magic and not suspect anything else.
Han Ping had just stepped out of the restroom when he heard Zhao Yuan's words. He nearly slipped and fell.
'Not an expert at magic?'
'Just making it up as you go?'
'Does he have to flex this hard?! If you don't know magic, if you were just "making it up," then eighty percent of the magicians in the world would die of shame! And out of the remaining twenty percent, most of them just have thicker skin than you, not more skill!'
He would never have guessed that Zhao Yuan's words weren't a flex, but the absolute truth.
The guy really didn't know a thing about magic!
Zhao Yuan continued, "I was planning to get off stage as soon as I was done because I still have to return the bronze statue of the esteemed Li Shizhen to the lawn. Earlier, a student just had to carve a small heart on it and got sent to the dean's office for a lecture. I've basically 'kidnapped' the entire statue. If I don't hurry up and return it, I'll be punished to death!"
The whole auditorium roared with laughter.
Ma Guotao stood up, smiling, and announced, "Zhao Yuan, rest assured, the school will not be investigating your 'theft.' It's fine even if you take a couple of days to return the statue."
The laughter in the auditorium immediately grew louder, mixed with a wave of thunderous applause.
Zhao Yuan laughed as well. "In that case, thank you, Principal Ma."
After the hall quieted down a bit, he continued, "You've asked me for an encore, but what should I perform?"
Immediately, people started shouting out suggestions.
"Do some magic!"
"Yeah, another magic trick!"
His loyal fans screamed, "We'll love anything you do!"
Some of the more shameless girls took the opportunity to catcall, "Do a striptease! We want to see your pecs, your abs, and your little friend!"
Hearing this, Zhao Yuan broke out in a cold sweat and quickly covered a few of his more... important parts. His timid posture immediately provoked another wave of laughter and screams.
"You guys are totally unreliable. Forget it, forget it. I'll just have to think of something myself!" With that, Zhao Yuan put down the microphone, lifted his head, and struck a pose, gazing up at a forty-five-degree angle as if truly lost in deep contemplation over his next act.
The crowd quieted down as well, patiently waiting for Zhao Yuan's performance.
Suddenly, the crisp sound of a bird's song echoed through the auditorium.
Everyone froze for a moment.
Where could a bird have come from so late at night? And how did it get inside the auditorium?
People began looking all around, trying to find where the bird was, but no matter where they looked, they couldn't spot it.
Just then, in addition to the birdsong, the sounds of horses neighing and dogs barking rang out.
At this, the auditorium erupted into chaos.
A bird was one thing, but now there were horses and dogs? And judging by the sound, they seemed to be right beside them. But where in the auditorium could horses and dogs possibly be? What was going on?
The students and teachers murmured in astonishment. Even Principal Ma and the other school leaders were searching for the source of the horse, dog, and bird sounds.
Suddenly, a possibility occurred to Huang Shijia. He whipped his head toward the stage and saw that even though Zhao Yuan wasn't holding the microphone, his mouth was moving. He instantly understood.
"Oral Skill! It's Oral Skill!"
His shout caught the attention of the musicians, dancers, and school leaders in the front few rows. They all turned to look at Zhao Yuan and finally confirmed it: the sounds of the bird, horse, and dog were indeed coming from his mouth.
"That sounds way too realistic, doesn't it?"
"It's not just realistic; it's incredibly layered. The bird's song, the horse's neigh, and the dog's bark are all happening at once, yet they're not muddled at all... He's producing several different sounds with just one mouth. That's incredible!"
"I'd heard that performers skilled in the Oral Skill could produce multiple sounds simultaneously, but I always thought it was an exaggeration. Seeing Zhao Yuan's performance today, I'm finally a believer!"
People exclaimed in amazement, but mostly, they were just curious. 'Where on earth did this kid learn Oral Skill?'
Little did they know, Zhao Yuan didn't actually know Oral Skill at all. He was simply using the Thought Borrowing Technique to borrow the Oral Skill techniques left behind by Wu Peng.
Once they realized this was Zhao Yuan performing the Oral Skill, the audience stopped looking around and began to listen intently.
Some people even closed their eyes. Instantly, a scene of a hunting party on horseback with hounds appeared in their minds. As Zhao Yuan's performance unfolded, human voices joined the scene, directing companions and calling to the hounds as they closed in on their quarry.
The listeners' blood pumped with excitement, as if they were right there in the middle of the action!
Just then, a deafening roar suddenly ripped through the air!
Even though they knew it was just part of Zhao Yuan's Oral Skill performance, many people in the auditorium were still terrified by the roar.
"A tiger!"
"Oh my god, it's a tiger!"
"Run! I don't want to be tiger food!"
A few of the more timid people who had been enjoying the Oral Skill performance with their eyes closed were so frightened that they shot their eyes open and began to cry, shout, and scramble to get away. If not for the students around them holding them back and calming them down, who knows what kind of chaos might have erupted.
The crowd was stunned into silence, completely dumbfounded.
This Oral Skill was just too realistic! The performance was absolutely masterful! A single person with a single mouth was creating so many sounds, building a scene richer than any movie!
