Lu Qing's expression changed instantly. She quickly drew her pistol. Scanning her surroundings vigilantly, she whispered, "If there are Corpse Puppets here, doesn't that mean we've been exposed?"
Zhao Yuan's expression changed as well.
When they dealt with the Hundred Insects Gu earlier, they hadn't entered its surveillance range, so they wouldn't have alerted Ying Ji. But now they had entered the room with the Corpse Puppets, which meant exposure was a certainty.
Zhao Yuan said in a low voice, "No wonder all the other windows were shut tight, but this one was open. It wasn't that Ying Ji was careless—she deliberately set a trap to lure us in!"
The words had barely left his mouth when the door creaked open. Ying Ji appeared in the doorway, dressed in a black and red coat with blood-red lipstick.
The outfit, combined with her paper-white face, gave her a cold, bewitching beauty, like a Vampire under the night sky.
"I never thought you'd actually manage to break into my home." Surprise was written all over Ying Ji's face.
Just moments before, she had been boasting to her Ghost Spirit about how formidable her Hundred Insects Gu was, calling it an inescapable net that no one could possibly breach. The next thing she knew, this happened. Talk about a slap in the face!
That humiliation was simply brutal!
After speaking, Ying Ji finally got a clear look at the intruder. She stared, stunned. "It's you?!"
She had observed Zhao Yuan on the mountain before and concluded that he was just an ordinary person. But now, it seemed she was wrong. In fact, she was dead wrong.
No ordinary person could sneak into her house without alerting the Hundred Insects Gu.
The Ghost Spirit followed her in. The moment it saw Zhao Yuan, it shrieked in her ear, "It's him! He's the one who wounded me at the City Second Hospital with that Buddhist Sect treasure!"
Ying Ji was shocked yet again, and her expression darkened.
Although Zhao Yuan couldn't hear the Ghost Spirit's voice, he could see its form using his Qi Observation Technique. He extended a hand and pulled out the long whip he had fashioned, just in case.
The Ghost Spirit jumped in fright at the sight of the whip in Zhao Yuan's hand.
It still remembered the feeling of being struck by the Fearless Pearl. It was like being scorched by direct sunlight—utterly agonizing! And now, Zhao Yuan had actually strung several Fearless Pearls and an Exorcism Talisman together to create a whip. 'What would a lash from that thing feel like? It's terrifying to even imagine!'
Ying Ji was startled as well.
She had a good eye for things and could tell at a glance that the Fearless Pearls and the Exorcism Talisman were all genuine, high-quality Magical Artifacts.
Magical Artifacts were already prohibitively expensive, to say nothing of high-quality ones. An ordinary Cultivator would be lucky to obtain one or two in their lifetime. Yet Zhao Yuan had actually strung four Fearless Pearls and an Exorcism Talisman together to make a whip...
'This guy's wealth is just obscene!'
'Where did he get so many powerful Magical Artifacts? Good thing this is my turf. No matter how many treasures he has, he's still going down!'
A cold glint flashed across Ying Ji's bewitching face as she snapped, "Zhao Yuan. I didn't think we'd meet again so soon. Where is the Teng Mo Larva? Hand it over!"
Zhao Yuan replied, "I've already destroyed the Teng Mo Larva. You can forget about it."
"Destroyed?" Ying Ji was incredulous. "You'd be willing to destroy a Teng Mo Larva? Do I look like a three-year-old? So you won't hand it over, is that it? No matter. Once I've subdued you, I have plenty of ways to make you cooperate!"
She pulled a Bone Flute from her coat, placed it to her lips, and blew a sharp note.
A piercing note from the flute echoed through the room.
Zhao Yuan and Lu Qing tensed, bracing for an attack.
But when the note faded, nothing happened.
'What's going on?' Zhao Yuan was completely baffled.
'Ying Ji blew the Bone Flute to summon her Evil Gu, but why isn't there any response? Is her technique flawed, or did something happen to her Evil Gu?'
Ying Ji was also filled with confusion. 'What in the world happened to my Hundred Insects Gu? It didn't raise an alarm when someone broke in, and now it's not responding to my Bone Flute.'
She looked up and demanded of Zhao Yuan, "What did you do to my Hundred Insects Gu?"
It was only then that Zhao Yuan realized she had been trying to summon the Hundred Insects Gu. He laughed. "Hoping your Hundred Insects Gu would come to the rescue? Dream on. They've all been neutralized!"
Ying Ji misunderstood him and cried out in alarm, "You killed my Hundred Insects Gu? How is that possible! There are so many of them, and they're impervious to blades, fire, and water. They can't be destroyed!"
"Can't be destroyed? What a joke." Zhao Yuan scoffed. "And you claim to be an expert in Gu Technique? Don't you know that the thing Hundred Insects Gu fears most is water boiled with Willow Leaves? A single drop is enough to take them out."
"What? The Hundred Insects Gu is afraid of water boiled with Willow Leaves?" Ying Ji's jaw dropped, her face a mask of pure disbelief.
She prided herself on her profound knowledge of Gu Technique, especially when it came to a few specific types like the Hundred Insects Gu, where she had extensive experience. Yet she had never known that the Hundred Insects Gu, which she considered invincible, had such a glaring weakness.
From Ying Ji's reaction, Zhao Yuan could tell she wasn't lying; she genuinely didn't know about the Hundred Insects Gu's weakness. It made sense, really. Zhao Yuan only knew because of the legacy left behind by Wu Peng. Ying Ji had no such 'cheat code'.
As much as she hated to believe it, the fact that the Hundred Insects Gu hadn't responded to her Bone Flute was undeniable. Ying Ji had no choice but to accept it.
She roared in fury, "First you wound my Ghost Spirit, and now you destroy my Hundred Insects Gu! This is unforgivable!"
"Corpse Puppets, get him! Kill him!" With Ying Ji's sharp command, five loud POPS echoed as five of the glass jars in the room shattered.
The powerful stench of formaldehyde washed over them, so strong it almost made Lu Qing gag. What terrified her even more was that five of the animal specimens, which should have been dead, began to move!
They climbed out of the shattered glass jars, flexed their limbs, and lunged toward her and Zhao Yuan with lightning speed.
"BANG! BANG! BANG!"
Lu Qing didn't hesitate to pull the trigger, firing several shots in quick succession.
Her aim was excellent, and nearly every bullet found its mark. But the Corpse Puppets only faltered for a moment before continuing their charge.
The pistol was completely useless against them!
In the blink of an eye, the five Corpse Puppets were upon them.
"Stand back! I'll handle this!" Zhao Yuan stepped forward, lashing out with his whip at the approaching Corpse Puppets.
The Corpse Puppets seemed terrified of the whip. They scrambled to dodge it, not daring to get closer, and let out a series of unsettling hisses.
Seeing this, Ying Ji didn't look worried at all. Instead, a cold smirk played on her lips as she thought, 'You've fallen for it!'
A shadow materialized behind Zhao Yuan and Lu Qing, silently extending its deadly claws toward them!
