Inside the Octagonal Tower, Zhao Yuan didn't see the strange scene in the sky. However, the staff of Lakefront House were all startled by the fiercely howling gales and the dark, rolling clouds pressing down from above. They all ran into the courtyard, looking around curiously while discussing it in amazement.
Someone asked in bewilderment, "What's going on? Is it going to rain? It was just sunny a moment ago. This is changing way too fast, isn't it?"
Someone with better eyesight noticed something strange. "No, look closely. It seems like these dark clouds are only covering our area. Everywhere else is clear."
This remark immediately drew a series of gasps.
"It's really true!"
"That's so weird. Why did a patch of dark clouds suddenly appear right over us?"
Hao Li had already returned to his room above the kitchen and was lounging in front of his computer, watching a new anime and eating potato chips. Suddenly, his body stiffened. He shot up and dashed toward the window. The chips fell and scattered all over the floor, but Hao Li, a neat freak, couldn't be bothered with them. He stood by the window, staring up at the rolling dark clouds, his mouth wide open.
'What on earth did Little Brother Zhao make? To think it would actually cause the heavens to stir up wind and clouds like this! A phenomenon like this is incredibly rare in today's world, where Spiritual Qi is so thin!'
Thrilled, Hao Li spun around, rushed out of the kitchen, and arrived at the base of the Octagonal Tower.
Standing there and looking up at the sky, he was immediately struck by an immense pressure, as if 'dark clouds loomed over the city, threatening to crush it.'
Hao Li's knees buckled, and he almost fell to his knees under the oppressive force. Gritting his teeth, he managed to withstand the pressure from the heavens and pulled his phone out of his pocket.
"I have to record a rare sight like this," Hao Li muttered as he opened his camera app and aimed it at the sky.
Just then, a deafening clap of thunder, like the sky caving in and the earth splitting apart, suddenly echoed from within the roiling dark clouds! A bolt of lightning, like a Flood Dragon emerging from the abyss, shot out from the clouds and plunged straight down. Its target was the Octagonal Tower right in front of Hao Li!
"Holy shit!"
Hao Li's face went pale with fright, and he couldn't help but curse.
He was a Cultivator, yes, but in the face of such heavenly might, he was still utterly insignificant! He instinctively turned and scrambled away.
He hadn't gotten far when he suddenly remembered that Zhao Yuan was still in the Octagonal Tower. He hurriedly turned back.
At this point, it was too late to run up to Lingyun Pavilion to save Zhao Yuan. All he could do was shout at the top of his lungs, "Little Brother Zhao! Run! No... jump down! Quick, jump down!"
Inside Lingyun Pavilion, Zhao Yuan, who was lying paralyzed on the floor, heard Hao Li's shouts and was taken aback. 'What's with this Hao Li guy? Why is he telling me to jump off the building?'
He was just about to ask what was happening when he suddenly felt a powerful aura descending from the sky, rushing toward him at high speed.
Before he could figure out what was going on, the lightning from the sky struck the Octagonal Tower.
"BOOM!"
The glazed tiles on the Octagonal Tower were instantly shattered. Fragments rained down, startling the staff who had been watching the spectacle from the courtyard. They all screamed, covered their heads, and scattered like rats!
Hao Li was also hit by a few fragments, which stung sharply. But he didn't dodge, simply staring blankly at the destroyed ninth floor of the Octagonal Tower—Lingyun Pavilion—and muttering, "It's over. Little Brother Zhao is definitely a goner."
In his opinion, Zhao Yuan was powerful, true, but no matter how powerful, his Cultivation was only at the Mid Stage of Marrow Cleansing, still within the Body Refining realm. It was impossible for him to have survived the blast from that bolt of lightning! Even in the best-case scenario, his Dao Foundation would be destroyed, completely cutting off his path of cultivation!
The lightning came and went in a flash. In the blink of an eye, it was gone. The dark clouds in the sky also dispersed rapidly, and sunlight once again shone down on Lakefront House.
If not for Lingyun Pavilion being reduced to ruins, people would have even wondered if what just happened was real or if they had been dreaming.
"Help! Someone help! Little Brother Zhao, are you still alive? If you're alive, say something!"
Hao Li shrieked as he dashed toward the Octagonal Tower. He was genuinely worried about Zhao Yuan and truly didn't want anything to happen to him.
Lingyun Pavilion had completely vanished, leaving the Octagonal Tower with only eight floors. When Hao Li climbed up, he was met with a scene of utter ruin.
"Little Brother Zhao, where are you? You weren't... completely turned to ash by that lightning, were you?" Hao Li shouted while frantically searching and digging through the rubble, hoping for a response.
And he got his wish.
A pile of rubble in the center suddenly shifted a few times, and then Zhao Yuan was seen struggling to climb out from underneath.
"Little Brother Zhao!" Overjoyed, Hao Li lunged forward and helped 'dig' Zhao Yuan out of the rubble.
Although Zhao Yuan was injured and his hair was singed, his Qi was stable. He didn't look like he had been gravely injured or had his Dao Foundation destroyed. In fact, Hao Li vaguely felt that Zhao Yuan's Qi was even a bit stronger than it had been before the Celestial Thunder strike. He couldn't help but blurt out in astonishment, "Huh? How are you okay?"
Zhao Yuan rolled his eyes and said irritably, "Were you hoping something would happen to me?"
Hao Li quickly waved his hands and explained, "No, no, weren't you just struck by lightning? I thought you were seriously injured! It's good that you're okay, really good."
Despite saying that, the doubt in his heart wasn't resolved. He kept muttering, "It's strange. That bolt of lightning was so ferocious. How did you come out of it unscathed?"
At his words, Zhao Yuan recalled what had just happened.
After blasting through the top of the tower, that bolt of lightning, which looked like a Flood Dragon, had plunged straight toward him.
For a moment, he had thought he was a goner. But in the end, the lightning didn't strike him. Instead, it had been absorbed by the Wind and Thunder Whip!
'Right, where's my Wind and Thunder Whip?'
Zhao Yuan hurriedly looked around for it.
"What are you looking for?" Hao Li came closer and asked curiously.
Without looking up, Zhao Yuan said, "I'm looking for the Magical Artifact I just made."
Hao Li said, "What kind of Magical Artifact? I'll help you look."
"A Hard Whip," Zhao Yuan replied.
"A Hard Whip?" Hao Li reached out and groped the inside of Zhao Yuan's thigh. "Isn't it right here?"
Zhao Yuan quickly slapped Hao Li's hand away and retreated. "What are you doing? Getting fresh at the drop of a hat? I'm looking for a Magical Artifact shaped like a hard whip, not the 'whip' you're thinking of!"
Hao Li froze, stunned. He then realized Zhao Yuan had misunderstood him and couldn't help but burst out laughing. "You're the one with your mind in the gutter! I was talking about your Magical Artifact. It's stuck to your pants."
"What?" Zhao Yuan looked down and saw that it was true.
It turned out that because of his injuries, his pants were stained with a lot of blood, and the Wind and Thunder Whip had gotten stuck to them.
"Uh, sorry, I misunderstood you." Zhao Yuan took off the Wind and Thunder Whip and apologized awkwardly.
