Divine Level Witch Doctor

Chapter 479 - 479: I Don't Like You

Chen Kaihua was puzzled. 'Aren't we just treating an illness?' he grumbled inwardly. 'Why all this mystery?'

But then a thought struck him. Suspecting Zhao Yuan was about to use some unique treatment method on Liu Lili and worried he might cause a disturbance, he said, "Dr. Zhao, don't worry. I'll definitely stay quiet. I won't shout or make a scene."

He then added, "Ever since Lili got sick, I've taken her to see many doctors and we've tried all sorts of treatments. You could say I've seen it all, so I won't be easily frightened."

Zhao Yuan gave a noncommittal response and walked toward Liu Lili, who was curled up in a corner, hugging a doll and singing a nursery rhyme.

Sensing someone approaching, Liu Lili stopped singing and shot her head up to glare at Zhao Yuan.

In the dim environment, the black cloak that had previously covered her had been removed, and Zhao Yuan finally got a clear look at her face.

In terms of looks alone, Liu Lili was quite beautiful, but right now, her face was covered in festering sores of all sizes!

Some of the more severe ones were not only exposing raw, reddish flesh but also oozing a yellowish-white pus, making for a sight that was both terrifying and nauseating. It made Liu Lili look just like one of those monstrous zombies from a horror movie!

The sores on Liu Lili's face didn't frighten Zhao Yuan.

He stared intently at Liu Lili's eyes.

Her eyes were very strange. At first glance, they seemed hazy and devoid of any Essence, Qi, and Spirit. But upon closer inspection, he discovered that each eyeball contained two pupils, one large and one small!

The large pupil was grayish-black, giving off a sense of weakness and decline. The small pupil, however, was as black as ink and exuded an intense, sinister chill.

Zhao Yuan guessed that the large pupil belonged to Liu Lili herself, while the smaller one belonged to Xiaochengcheng!

This sight of two pupils in one eye was truly unsettling!

Liu Lili glared at Zhao Yuan, her eyes filled with hostility, and shrieked hysterically, "Get away! Don't come near us! Don't even think about taking my son away!"

Whether it was a trick of the mind or not, the moment she spoke, the temperature in the dim examination room seemed to drop drastically!

It was so cold it made one shiver uncontrollably.

Chen Kaihua, with good intentions, was afraid Liu Lili would fly into a rage and hurt someone. He hurried toward her, wanting to calm her down. "Lili, don't be nervous. This is Dr. Zhao. He's here to treat you."

There had been incidents before where Liu Lili had injured the doctors treating her, so Chen Kaihua had to be cautious.

However, before he could reach Liu Lili, Zhao Yuan stopped him. With a serious expression, he instructed, "Mr. Chen, don't go over there yet. Stay by the door of the examination room. Don't move a muscle until I tell you to!"

Chen Kaihua said worriedly, "But if I don't go and calm Lili down, she's likely to lash out, hurting people and destroying things. It would be bad if she hurt you."

Zhao Yuan waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry, she can't hurt me!"

In his view, it wasn't hard to understand why Liu Lili would attack doctors.

Liu Lili's obsession was profound; all she wanted was to make it up to her son and be with him.

To that end, her solution was to offer up her body, allowing her son's soul to share a physical form with her. In this situation, she saw any doctor trying to treat her as someone trying to separate her from her son. Of course she wouldn't agree to that; of course she would get angry. It was no surprise at all that she would attack them.

But Zhao Yuan was confident that even if Liu Lili did attack him, he could subdue her!

'Are you kidding me?' he thought. 'This is a guy who can go head-to-head with the Mountain Spirit Xiaoyang!'

"Th-this... All right, then."

In the end, Chen Kaihua chose to obey Zhao Yuan's command and retreated to the doorway of the examination room. But he didn't forget to add, "Dr. Zhao, if there's anything I can do to help, just say the word. As long as you can cure Lili, I'm willing to do anything."

"Okay!" Zhao Yuan nodded in agreement and continued walking toward Liu Lili.

Liu Lili's voice suddenly changed, becoming that of a little boy. "Don't come any closer! Didn't you hear my mommy? If you get any closer, I'm gonna hit you!"

Zhao Yuan knew that it was no longer Liu Lili speaking, but her son, Xiaochengcheng.

He held up his hands to show he meant no harm and introduced himself with a smile. "Don't be nervous. I'm a friend of your dad's. You can call me Brother Zhao. If you don't believe me, you can ask your dad."

"Daddy, is that true?" Liu Lili... no, it must have been Xiaochengcheng, twisted his neck at a bizarre angle to look at Chen Kaihua and ask.

"Uh..." Chen Kaihua froze for a moment before snapping out of it and hurriedly played along with Zhao Yuan. "Yes, Dr. Zha— uhm, Uncle Zhao is indeed Daddy's friend. You have to be polite to him and don't hurt him."

Chen Kaihua felt incredibly awkward. Liu Lili was clearly his wife, yet he had to speak to her in the same tone he would use to coax his son.

But he also knew that when Liu Lili's condition flared up and her second personality emerged, it was best to go along with what she said, otherwise it would be easy to anger her.

From Chen Kaihua's perspective, Zhao Yuan was currently employing psychotherapy, first getting Liu Lili to lower her guard and then using words to provide psychological guidance. He wasn't optimistic, however, because many doctors had tried this method before, and it had never worked.

"Don't call me Uncle Zhao, just Brother Zhao is fine." Zhao Yuan had no idea what Chen Kaihua was thinking; his full attention was on Liu Lili and Xiaochengcheng.

"Brother Zhao..." Xiaochengcheng mumbled the name a few times, then suddenly raised his hand and pointed to a spot next to Zhao Yuan. "What about her? Is she my daddy's friend too?"

The person Xiaochengcheng was pointing at was Zeng Rui.

He was a Ghost to begin with, and though he was inhabiting Liu Lili's body, that fact hadn't changed. Therefore, he could see Zeng Rui, who was also a Ghost Soul.

Chen Kaihua, however, couldn't see Zeng Rui. When he saw his wife pointing at an empty area and saying someone else was there, his scalp tingled and a chill ran down his spine.

After swallowing hard, he tried to comfort himself. 'Lili's condition must have worsened, and she's hallucinating. I shouldn't overthink it. No need to scare myself.'

Zhao Yuan turned his head to glance at Zeng Rui, then smiled and nodded. "That's right. She's your dad's friend, too."

Xiaochengcheng tilted his head, considered it for a moment, then said bluntly, "I like her, not you!"

Zhao Yuan didn't get angry; he could guess the reason why.

Zeng Rui was a Ghost, and so was Xiaochengcheng, so they naturally felt a sense of kinship. He, on the other hand, had absorbed a great deal of Wish Power from humans but relatively little from ghosts. As a result, the Qi in his body was temporarily in a state of pure, potent yang energy. Ghosts, especially weaker ones like Xiaochengcheng, were strongly repulsed by this kind of Qi.

"It's okay if you don't like me, but there's something I want to say to you."

As he spoke, Zhao Yuan took a few more steps forward, closing the distance to Liu Lili's body to just two or three meters.
