Divine Milking System

Chapter 400 | That’s My Girlfriend

Chapter 400: 400 | That’s My Girlfriend

The world went red.

Not metaphorically. Not poetically. The actual fucking world turned crimson at the edges of my vision as I watched Belle’s body arc through the air, watched her hit the ground with a sound that would haunt my nightmares for the rest of whatever life I had left, watched her lie there without moving while the creature that hurt her turned its hollow eyes back toward me with that patient, ancient hunger.

Something inside me snapped.

Not broke. Snapped. Like a rubber band pulled past its limit, like a dam giving way under pressure it was never designed to handle, like every single survival instinct I’d developed over the past six weeks suddenly deciding that survival wasn’t the priority anymore.

Belle wasn’t moving.

Belle, who had left me a fourteen-point checklist at three in the morning because she couldn’t sleep until she knew I’d be safe. Belle, who had guided us through this hellscape with nothing but her Treasure Sense and sheer stubborn refusal to let anyone else die. Belle, who smelled like butterscotch and tasted like hope and looked at me like I was worth something even when I was a three-hundred-pound lottery winner with no future and less dignity.

Belle wasn’t moving.

The System flickered at the edge of my consciousness, and for the first time since I’d woken up in this body, I felt it respond to something other than a command. It felt my rage. It felt my desperation. And it offered me something new.

◆ EMERGENCY PROTOCOL DETECTED ◆

User emotional state: CRITICAL

Threat assessment: LETHAL

Standard abilities: INSUFFICIENT

Unlocking: DIVINE OVERFLOW

Warning: This ability consumes LIFESPAN directly

Warning: Cellular acceleration causes severe physical strain

Warning: Duration limited by remaining lifespan reserves

Activate? \[YES\] / \[NO\]

I didn’t hesitate.

Yes.

◆ DIVINE OVERFLOW ACTIVATED ◆

Lifespan consumption: 1 day per 10 seconds

Current reserves: 13 days 21 hours

Cellular command: ENGAGED

The change ripped through me like every lightning bolt in existence decided to inhabit the same body at once.

Every cell woke up screaming. My muscles expanded with force that made no sense for someone who’d been E-rank strength a week ago, D-rank three days ago, and still technically only had C-rank in that department according to the System’s honest assessment. My nervous system processed input at speeds that turned the world into slow motion, every detail sharp and clear and available. My heart tried to beat its way out of my rib cage, forcing blood that burned like liquid sunlight through a circulatory system that suddenly had to handle divine energy instead of normal human biochemistry.

Golden light blasted out from my skin in all directions.

Nothing subtle about it. Nothing contained. A full-body corona that turned our shadowy disaster zone into high noon, bright enough that Naomi threw an arm over her face, bright enough to make even Blair look away for half a heartbeat, bright enough to make the dimensional guardian pause mid-advance and reconsider its next move.

Yeah, look at me now, you son of a bitch.

I moved.

The dirt where I’d been standing exploded outward in a crater pattern. Air detonated behind me, scattering rocks and ash across the clearing in a burst that probably registered on someone’s instruments back at the academy. Twenty feet separated me from the creature at one heartbeat. Zero feet at the next, my fist already traveling toward the exact location Belle had marked before that tail had knocked her unconscious.

Left flank. Thinnest armor plating. Structural weakness from previous battles or maybe just how this species evolved.

My knuckles collided with volcanic hide.

Stone cracked under the impact. Not the ground this time. The creature’s shell, that supposedly impenetrable defense that had ignored everything we’d thrown at it.

The dimensional guardian actually stumbled backward three steps.

Actually staggered. This thing that had walked through Dante’s nullification field like it was morning dew, that had caught Jordan’s shadows like they were made of string, that had killed Charles Leone with a casual squeeze of its claws. It staggered back from my punch like I’d just reminded it that pain was a thing that existed.

Perfect.

"THAT’S MY GIRLFRIEND YOU PIECE OF SHIT!"

The second punch landed in the exact same location. Harder this time. My knuckles remembered where the bone had met shell, where stone had surrendered to force, and I followed that memory with everything the Overclock had given me.

The shell fractured.

Fault lines spread from the impact in jagged spider webs. Dark ichor oozed from the breaks like blood from torn meat. The creature made a sound I hadn’t heard yet during this entire fight—less patient hunger, more genuine shock, more actual fucking pain.

Those claws that had turned Charles into a corpse came at my head.

I caught them.

The impact buried my feet six inches deep. My bones complained in a language I’d never learned before today. The golden light around me stuttered once before it stabilized, burning hotter to compensate for the damage I was absorbing and the hours I was hemorrhaging.

But my hands stayed closed around those claws.

The guardian tried to pull free. I didn’t let go.

◆ LIFESPAN REMAINING: 13 days 18 hours ◆

Three hours gone in thirty seconds. Worth it.

"Monroe!" Blair’s voice cut through the chaos. She was on her feet again, Hellflame gathering around both arms with an intensity that made the air shimmer. "What the fuck is happening to you?"

"Long story! Hit the crack!"

"What crack?"

"THE CRACK I JUST MADE! LEFT SIDE! NOW!"

Blair didn’t argue. She just aimed.

The blue-white beam of concentrated thermal energy punched into the fracture I’d created with the accuracy of someone who’d spent her entire life learning to hit things exactly where she wanted them. The creature howled as fire invaded its internal structure, as heat met corrupted flesh and began the process of cooking it from the inside out.

But it wasn’t enough.

The crack sealed itself. The creature’s regeneration kicked in, filling the damage with new shell material faster than Blair could burn through it. The same problem we’d faced with the tendrils. The same regeneration that had made the core chamber a nightmare of endless defense.

Except this time I had an answer.
