Divine Milking System

Chapter 412 | A Perfect, Closed Loop

Chapter 412: 412 | A Perfect, Closed Loop

The door closed behind Addison with a click that left the room feeling twice as large and half as interesting. Her perfume lingered, dark florals mixed with cherry candy, fighting the antiseptic for territory and winning.

I stared at the ceiling.

The water stain that looked like a duck stared back.

My lips still tasted like cherry.

Focus, Monroe.

I pulled up the System with a thought, and the full interface materialized in my vision like a translucent blue screen that only I could see. The hospital room’s beige walls disappeared behind columns of data, progress bars, notifications, and status readouts that painted a picture so complex it would make a tax attorney weep.

DIVINE MILKING SYSTEM

JACE MONROE | Height: 6’1" | Weight: 205 lbs | Age: 18 | House: Obsidian

SYSTEM STATUS

Level: 6 (450/6000 XP)

Lifespan: 1D 5H 8M

Points: 7,680

I read that lifespan number three times. Each reading made my stomach drop a little further.

One day. Five hours. Eight minutes.

Thirty hours of existence, give or take. That was what remained after I’d shoved my entire hand through a dimensional guardian’s chest and squeezed its core until reality itself said uncle. The number should have sent me spiraling into a full-blown existential crisis. The kind where you start calling people you haven’t spoken to in years and apologizing for things they don’t remember.

But that number was also a miracle. Because the number had been lower. Much lower. Somewhere during the eighteen hours of unconsciousness, something had ticked upward. Not much. Maybe an hour or two. The System’s passive regeneration working overtime to rebuild what Divine Overflow had burned through like a kid going through Halloween candy.

I scrolled down.

PHYSICAL STATS

SOCIAL STATS

Charisma [C] ▰▰▰▰▰▱▱▱▱▱ (5/10)

Technique [B] ▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰▰ (10/10) READY TO RANK UP

Holy shit.

I scrolled to a notification I’d been ignoring since I woke up. A golden banner sat at the top of my alert queue, different from the usual purple quest updates or blue stat gains. This one radiated something heavier. Something that felt like the difference between finding a twenty on the sidewalk and inheriting a house from a relative you never knew existed.

DIVINE OVERFLOW [UNLOCKED]

Classification: Emergency Protocol (System Core)

Type: Active, Self-Buff

Rank: Copper

Activation: Manual or Automatic (triggered at CRITICAL health + emotional catalyst)

Duration: Variable (based on remaining Lifespan)

Cost: 1 day Lifespan per 10 seconds of active use

I read the description three times. The ability was real. Not a fever dream brought on by blood loss and mana corruption. Not the delusional last gasp of a dying brain constructing narratives to make sense of its own termination. Divine Overflow existed in my ability library as a permanent, equippable power that I could access whenever I wanted, provided I was willing to pay the price.

And what a price.

One day of life for every ten seconds of use. That meant the golden aura, the impossible strength, the speed that turned the world into slow motion around me, all of it ran on the most expensive fuel in existence. My own remaining time on this planet. During the fight with the guardian, I’d burned through nearly eleven days in what felt like three minutes. The math was simple and horrifying. At full output, I could sustain Divine Overflow for approximately three minutes before my lifespan hit zero and the System shut me down permanently. Three minutes of godhood followed by eternal death. The ultimate glass cannon.

But those three minutes had been enough to crack a dimensional guardian’s shell. To rip through volcanic rock armor that shrugged off Blair’s S-rank Hellflame. To match something that killed Charles Leone in three seconds flat.

I kept scrolling.

ACTIVE ABILITIES

Slot 1: Wave Motion [Bronze]

Slot 2: Sensory Hijack - Dual Stream [Bronze]

Slot 3: REAPER’S EDGE [Copper]

STORED ABILITIES

Treasure Sense [Bronze]

ABILITY LIBRARY (4 total)

Wave Motion [Bronze] - Spiral energy conversion, ranged offense, propulsion

Treasure Sense [Bronze] - Item detection, value assessment, loot pathfinding

Sensory Hijack - Dual Stream [Bronze] - Two-sense manipulation, 15m range

REAPER’S EDGE [Copper] - Death-aspected weapon manifestation, Death Mark, Reaping Dash

Four abilities in seven weeks. Two offensive, one utility, one psychological. The foundation of something that could eventually become terrifying. Reaper’s Edge alone had proven its worth against the alpha leopard and the guardian’s tendrils. At Copper rank, the kama barely scratched the surface of what Addison could do with the full A-rank version, but the death corruption effect had shut down the guardian’s regeneration where Blair’s fire couldn’t. The combination of death mana and Hellflame had created something neither element could achieve alone, a synergy that the textbooks claimed was impossible because the two mana types were supposed to cancel each other out.

The textbooks were wrong.

Blair and I had proven that in a cave at the bottom of a canyon while a centipede the size of a school bus tried to eat us. The memory of her face in the bioluminescent light, ice-blue eyes wide with something she’d never show anyone at the academy, came back unbidden. The feeling of her mouth on mine. The way her body had pressed against me in the narrow stone space like she was trying to memorize the shape of me before we both died.

I shoved the memory into a box and locked it.

Not now.

I looked deeper into the System, past the surface layer of stats and abilities into the architecture underneath. The framework that connected everything. That turned milk into points, points into survival, survival into power, and power into more opportunities to acquire milk. A perfect closed loop designed by an old man in an impossible library who claimed to have placed seventeen souls across nine realities and watched twelve of them optimize themselves into graves.

The old man’s words echoed in my head. The ones about jumping. About choosing to save someone even when the math said don’t. About being the element he couldn’t design into the System and had to find in me specifically.

I didn’t fully believe him. People who claim to operate at cosmic scales and drop wisdom between chess moves tend to have agendas that make Davenport Industries look like a lemonade stand. But I believed one thing he’d said without question.

The Void Gate had been a trap. Engineered. Intentional.

Someone or something had identified me as a threat and constructed a death box tailored to eliminate me before I grew strong enough to matter. The sensor failure wasn’t a malfunction. The entity density, the seal, the evolved fauna, all of it had been designed.

And I’d survived it anyway.
