"Jiang the Military Advisor, hold on."
Jiang Chen came out of Wen Shiren’s room.
Da Pao suddenly ran out after him, calling out from behind.
Da Pao quickly caught up to him. "Jiang the Military Advisor," he said to Jiang Chen, "thank you for the reading you did for me earlier."
"I’d like to ask you something else about divination."
He immediately pulled Jiang Chen outside.
Once they were alone, Da Pao’s expression suddenly turned serious.
He stared at Jiang Chen and asked, "Jiang the Military Advisor, I get the feeling your divination skills are anything but ordinary. You were able to read my fate just now, but I noticed your expression changed a bit when you were reading His Highness’s fortune."
"I need to know—is His Highness’s fate a bad one?"
He was right. Da Pao might have been rough around the edges, but he was very perceptive. He had noticed something was wrong, which was why he had followed him out.
Jiang Chen fell silent, deliberating.
Da Pao grew anxious and pressed him, "Jiang the Military Advisor, just tell me the truth. I swear I won’t tell His Highness."
"I swear it."
Jiang Chen shook his head. "This matter is too important. Let me go back and run the calculations again."
He said nothing more; he was worried that revealing the truth would shake the confidence of the Third Prince’s men.
With that, Jiang Chen turned and left.
Da Pao’s expression, however, turned grim.
’Could it be that the Third Prince’s fate is truly that bad?’
’Jiang the Military Advisor doesn’t dare to speak the truth... What should I do?’
Despite his suspicions, Da Pao was extremely loyal.
He would never betray the Third Prince.
After Jiang Chen returned to his room, he once again began using the Ten Directions Calculation to divine the Third Prince’s fate.
’It’s still a short life.’
Jiang Chen’s heart sank.
This was not a good outcome.
If the Third Prince were to die a premature death before he even secured the position of the Sovereign’s heir, it would all be a joke.
Of course, it would not be a funny joke.
’Let’s see if there’s a way to break it.’
Jiang Chen began his calculations once more.
’Unknown!’
In the end, Jiang Chen was left completely speechless. There was currently no way to break the Third Prince’s fate. He was still destined for a short life.
This was a result Jiang Chen could not accept.
He was preparing to make big moves, only to find that all his efforts would come to nothing. How could he possibly accept that?
The next few days passed without incident. Jiang Chen simply used the time to familiarize himself with the Royal Palace.
He spent the rest of his time in secluded Cultivation.
"Jiang the Military Advisor, help me!"
"Help me!"
Just as Jiang Chen was cultivating, someone suddenly burst in from outside.
Xiao Jun moved to stop the intruder, but stopped short when he saw it was Da Pao. "Da Pao, what’s wrong?" he asked, astonished. "You look like you’re in a blind panic."
Da Pao was black and blue, a truly miserable sight.
He wailed, "Quick, get your master out here to save me!"
"Hurry, or I’m a dead man!"
As he spoke, he glanced fearfully over his shoulder, as if something was chasing him.
Xiao Jun had no choice but to inform Jiang Chen.
Jiang Chen came out, clearly displeased. "Da Pao," he asked coolly, "is something the matter?"
Da Pao said frantically, "Jiang the Military Advisor, this is bad! She’s here!"
As he spoke, he kept looking toward the entrance.
Jiang Chen frowned slightly.
"Who?"
In response to Jiang Chen’s question, Da Pao could only whimper, "It’s General Huo Wu! Look at me! She’s the one who beat me into this miserable state!"
Only then did Jiang Chen notice the terrified look on Da Pao’s face. It was as if he had run into someone he feared more than anything.
Over the past few days, Jiang Chen had heard of a formidable figure under the Third Prince’s command named Huo Wu.
He simply hadn’t met her yet.
In the Third Prince’s Mansion, the mere mention of Huo Wu’s name terrified everyone, as if they had seen a ghost.
Da Pao pitifully patted his chest, right over his pounding heart.
He pleaded tearfully, "Jiang the Military Advisor, Huo Wu is too much! She’s gone to find His Highness now, but she’ll definitely come back for me later! Please, save me!"
Jiang Chen’s frown deepened.
He was beginning to understand. ’This Huo Wu must be an extremely hot-tempered person.’
He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
"To be this scared of a mere woman... that’s truly pathetic."
"What is she, some kind of tigress?"
Jiang Chen felt Da Pao was being overly dramatic, being this afraid of a woman.
Xiao Jun also sneered, "Da Pao, I thought you were supposed to be brave. Why are you so timid all of a sudden?"
"Like our master says, even a tigress will turn into a kitten in front of him."
The words had barely left his mouth.
CLANK... CLANK...
when a heavy footfall echoed from the entrance.
Then, before the stunned onlookers, a general clad in armor and radiating a heroic aura strode into Jiang Chen’s courtyard.
Da Pao froze. A moment later, his face bloomed into a brilliant smile as he looked at the newcomer, a grin as wide and bright as a sunflower in August.
Jiang Chen was also taken aback.
He sized up the newcomer—it was a woman.
Unlike the gentle beauty of most women, she possessed a distinctly masculine aura.
Her form-fitting armor did nothing to hide her explosive figure.
Of course, the woman was currently radiating an icy aura, her sharp gaze sweeping over the three men present.
The moment she entered, Xiao Jun felt a chill run through him.
He instinctively retreated to stand behind Jiang Chen.
But then, feeling that was inappropriate, he stepped out from behind Jiang Chen again and tried to puff out his chest and stand tall.
Of course, the icy aura emanating from the woman was undeniably oppressive.
"Is that so?"
"Which one of you is going to turn this ’tigress’ into a kitten? I’m quite looking forward to finding out."
As soon as she entered, the woman’s gaze swept over Da Pao.
In that instant, Da Pao felt cold sweat break out on his back.
He was afraid. Truly, deeply afraid of this woman.
It was an innate fear.
Especially the moment she spoke; he felt as if the very ground beneath him had frozen solid.
A chill shot up from the soles of his feet.
He shivered and quickly forced a brilliant smile. "General Huo Wu, no one would dare disrespect you."
"We were just talking about a tigress on the mountain outside the city, right, Jiang the Military Advisor?"
As he spoke, he shot Jiang Chen a meaningful look.
Jiang Chen was quite embarrassed.
He had just said it offhandedly, but she had actually overheard him. ’Even for someone as thick-skinned as me, talking about people behind their backs like this feels pretty inappropriate.’
He quickly nodded and gave a dry cough. "That’s right. We were talking about a tigress on the mountain outside the city. Lady Huo Wu, please don’t misunderstand."
He was finally starting to appreciate just how formidable this Huo Wu was.
This was not a woman to be trifled with.
"Hmph!"
Huo Wu snorted coldly.
She completely ignored Da Pao and Xiao Jun, her eyes fixed on Jiang Chen.
Her eyes narrowed, and Huo Wu asked coldly, "You must be the newcomer, Jiang Chen, the Military Advisor?"
Clearly, Huo Wu had already met with the Third Prince and knew Jiang Chen’s identity.
Jiang Chen nodded. "I am."
Huo Wu sneered. "I never thought Jiang the Military Advisor would be the type to gossip about people behind their backs."
Jiang Chen was mortified; this was absolutely not what he had intended.
’How could he possibly explain this now? It was pointless. She had heard it all. Huo Wu must have already been at the entrance when they mentioned the ’tigress’.’
"Ahem..."
Jiang Chen cleared his throat, but said nothing.
But Huo Wu said coldly, "Jiang the Military Advisor, we’ll talk later. As for you, Da Pao... get out here."
