Divine War Pill Emperor

Chapter 527 525: Seizing the High Ground

Inside the great hall, Da Pao, Cao Yang, and Huo Wu stood beside the Third Prince.

Jiang Chen waited for the Third Prince to speak.

After a moment of contemplation, the Third Prince spoke in a grave tone, "Jiang the Military Advisor, every year, our Fire Sparrow Kingdom holds a King of the Hill event."

"This year's King of the Hill is in five days."

Jiang Chen had heard of the Fire Sparrow Kingdom's King of the Hill event before.

A specific mountain was designated, and the three princes would each dispatch a team. The first team to plant their flag on the summit would be declared the victor.

Hence the name, King of the Hill.

It was an event designed by the Sovereign of the Fire Sparrow Kingdom to test the abilities of his three sons.

The Third Prince then continued, "This time, my father, the Sovereign, will personally attend and watch the King of the Hill event."

"I always come in last."

"Jiang the Military Advisor, I hope to reach the summit just once in my life."

"I don't want to be seen as a failure anymore."

In past years, the Third Prince had always finished last.

This year, he felt he truly couldn't afford to be last again.

Otherwise, his hopes of inheriting the throne of the Fire Sparrow Kingdom would become even more remote.

Meanwhile, Cao Yang, Da Pao, and Huo Wu all wore incredibly solemn expressions.

Clearly, they held no advantage whatsoever in the King of the Hill competition.

They lost to the other two princes every year.

It was a constant source of pain for them.

Jiang Chen remained silent.

"What are the rules for King of the Hill?"

The Third Prince explained, "Each prince can bring three people: one at Martial King Fifth Heaven, one at Martial King Fourth Heaven, and one at Martial King Third Heaven."

"Plus the prince himself."

"It's a team of four. The first to plant their flag on the summit wins."

"During the event, no flying is allowed. You can only run up the mountain."

"This time, the outcome of the King of the Hill event could even determine the successor to the throne of the Fire Sparrow Kingdom."

Jiang Chen was a little speechless.

"With rules like these, our side has no advantage at all."

After all, the experts serving the Crown Prince and the Second Prince were far more powerful.

Although Jiang Chen could contend with a Martial King Fifth Heaven expert, he was ultimately just one person; he couldn't block everyone.

Immediately, they all gathered together to discuss a strategy.

"Jiang the Military Advisor, from what I know, my eldest brother will send an expert named Zhao Tian. He's a Martial King Fifth Heaven and incredibly ferocious—he can fight three ordinary cultivators of the same level by himself."

"My second brother will most likely send Mr. Gu. His cultivation is only at Martial King Fourth Heaven, but his true strength is unfathomable. I even have a feeling he's strong enough to kill a Martial Arts expert."

The Third Prince shared his speculations with Jiang Chen.

Although on the surface each team had experts at the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Heavens of the Martial King realm, the final outcome would actually be decided by the single most powerful individual.

And in the end, it was the prince himself who had to personally plant the flag on the summit.

Jiang Chen considered the situation.

He asked, "What's the path up the mountain like?"

'There might be a sliver of hope,' he thought.

The Third Prince replied, "There's only a single narrow path up the mountain, wide enough for just three people to walk abreast."

"However, on the way up, the princes' subordinates are allowed to attack each other."

"Even killing is permitted."

Upon hearing this, Jiang Chen suddenly declared, "In that case, I will ensure His Highness plants the flag on the summit this time."

The Third Prince thought he must have misheard.

Huo Wu spoke up to caution him, "Jiang the Military Advisor, this is a serious matter. You can't make such wild claims."

"After all, none of the men under the Crown Prince or the Second Prince are ordinary Martial Cultivators."

"You can't stop them all by yourself."

But Jiang Chen just said calmly, "I know."

"But on the day of the competition, I want you to take the Third Prince and just head up the mountain as fast as you can. Don't worry about anything else."

"I'll keep the men of the Crown Prince and the Second Prince occupied."

Huo Wu was utterly astonished.

'He's making an impossibly big boast.' she thought.

'One person stopping all the men from the Crown Prince's and the Second Prince's teams?'

'Impossible.'

Just as she was about to say something, Jiang Chen waved his hand. "Don't say another word. Just do as I say."

"I have my ways."

With that, Jiang Chen turned and left.

Huo Wu, the Third Prince, and the others exchanged bewildered glances.

They simply didn't believe Jiang Chen had the ability to change the outcome.

After all, Jiang Chen was, at best, only a Martial King Third Heaven.

Their chances of winning were slim.

This was true, even though the Third Prince was desperate to be the first to reach the summit.

"It's fine. We'll see what Jiang the Military Advisor does when the time comes," the Third Prince finally said with sudden conviction. "I believe in him."

After all, trusting Jiang Chen seemed to be his only option.

The Third Prince immediately began to arrange his team.

In truth, there wasn't much to arrange.

Huo Wu was a Martial King Fifth Heaven, Cao Yang a Martial King Fourth Heaven, and Jiang Chen a Martial King Third Heaven.

He had no other experts to choose from.

Meanwhile, Jiang Chen returned to his courtyard.

Mr. Qiu Shui was currently in the room.

"Young Master, you've arrived."

"I've settled Mr. Qiu Shui in. He's waiting for you," Xiao Jun said hurriedly when he saw Jiang Chen enter.

Jiang Chen nodded.

He headed straight for Mr. Qiu Shui's room.

"Young Master."

Mr. Qiu Shui was very courteous to Jiang Chen, despite being the President of the Alchemist Guild.

After entering the room, Jiang Chen said to Mr. Qiu Shui, "Alright, let's get right to it."

"I said I'd help you with your cultivation breakthrough, so come with me."

Mr. Qiu Shui looked astonished.

He hadn't expected Jiang Chen to want to help him break through right now.

'This seems a bit unrealistic.'

But in the end, he still chose to follow Jiang Chen.

Jiang Chen led Mr. Qiu Shui into the private chamber where he usually did his cultivation.

"Young Master, how are you going to help me?" he asked with a hint of wonder as soon as they entered the chamber.

Jiang Chen said calmly, "It's simple. Demonstrate your Cultivation Technique for me. I'll watch it once through."

To guide Mr. Qiu Shui, Jiang Chen naturally had to start with the Cultivation Technique he practiced.

Once he understood the problems with the technique, he could find a way for him to break through.

Mr. Qiu Shui was taken aback.

He was still filled with doubt.

But in the end, he did as Jiang Chen instructed.

"Very well, Young Master. I will demonstrate it for you."

Without another word, Mr. Qiu Shui immediately began to demonstrate his Cultivation Technique in the private chamber.

"Celestial Dragon Devouring the Sun."

With a low shout, Mr. Qiu Shui began. The Cultivation Technique he practiced was a school called Celestial Dragon Devouring the Sun.

When cultivated, this technique allowed one to condense a Celestial Dragon outside the body.

The Celestial Dragon coiled in the air, like a great dragon soaring through the heavens.

The display was magnificent and powerful.

In particular, the Celestial Dragon exuded a powerful draconic might that could make all living things submit.

In the blink of an eye, the entire chamber was filled with a swirling, mighty, and vibrant energy.

Once the demonstration was complete, Mr. Qiu Shui retracted his energy and looked toward Jiang Chen.

He still didn't think Jiang Chen could change anything.

"Young Master, I have finished. What are your thoughts?"

Though still doubtful, he held onto a sliver of hope that Jiang Chen might have some insight that could change his fate.

For some inexplicable reason, he wanted to believe Jiang Chen could help him.
