Chapter 611: Chapter 607: No Wonder

Jasmine Warren had been working at Sovereign for almost two weeks, but she still hadn’t found the right opportunity to slip into the president’s office.

Her colleagues had also clearly moved on from the buzz surrounding the new boss. Unlike the first few days, they no longer launched into a heated, half-hour discussion every morning the moment Ian Shaw stepped into his office.

She knew Ian Shaw was a playboy, but she never expected a man with such a reputation to be such a workaholic. He would arrive at the company at 8:30 a.m. and stay holed up in his office all day. Rumor had it he worked overtime until well after ten every night before leaving.

Ian Shaw’s grueling schedule was the exact reason she couldn’t find a chance to get into his office.

Aria Joyce had all but lost faith in her, and her attitude grew worse by the day. At first, she would come to meet Jasmine daily, asking what she had done and offering suggestions. But after three or four straight days of Ian Shaw not leaving work on time, Aria stopped bothering. She simply gave Jasmine a deadline: get all the internal documents within one month, or Jason Lockwood would never get out.

That day, just like any other, she sat with her chin in her hand, her eyes glued to Ian Shaw’s office.

She watched as the secretaries, clutching reports, went in one by one with smiles and came out one by one, their faces flushed. She wished her eyes had X-ray vision so she could see every little thing happening inside.

"Jasmine, do you have any more work to do? Or any documents for President Shaw?" a colleague next to her suddenly whispered.

Jasmine snapped back to reality and turned to the woman beside her, a look of confusion on her face. It took her a few seconds to process what had been said. Thinking of Aria Joyce’s deadline, she shook her head. "No, I don’t have any documents for President Shaw right now."

"Oh, I see. That’s a shame." The colleague was clearly a bit disappointed. Seeing Jasmine stay put, she furrowed her brow and asked tentatively, "It’s almost quitting time. Jasmine, want to leave together?"

"No, thanks. I’m going to stay a little longer," Jasmine said, shaking her head again.

The woman pursed her lips but said nothing more. She packed up her desk, stood, and left with a few other colleagues.

They hadn’t gone far before their mocking discussion began.

The gist of it was that they had thought Jasmine Warren was the only exception among them—the one person who wasn’t interested in the new boss. They just hadn’t expected her to show her true colors so quickly.

Not that they gave an unremarkable person like Jasmine Warren a second thought. After all, any one of them was far more attractive than her. Besides, the "small perks" they’d occasionally enjoyed in President Shaw’s office lately had taught them a valuable lesson from their years in the workforce: President Shaw was someone you could have fun with, but he was definitely not someone you gave your heart to.

Once they were gone, Jasmine Warren was left all alone. She clutched the file in her hand, her heart pounding with anxiety.

’What if he recognizes me when I go in?’ she worried.

After a long, agonizing moment of hesitation, Jasmine finally steeled her nerves, stood up, and walked toward the office. Reaching the door, she raised her hand and knocked softly.

A moment later, a cold, firm male voice came from within.

"Come in."

The sound only made her more nervous. She lowered her gaze, turned the handle, and pushed the door open to enter.

As the door opened, she saw Ian Shaw, his eyes locked on his computer screen, fingers flying across the keyboard.

He didn’t even look up, as if he hadn’t noticed her enter at all.

This Ian Shaw was nothing like the carefree, approachable man from before.

He exuded an intense, oppressive aura that, for a split second, made Jasmine Warren feel like she was looking at Jason Lockwood.

’So similar!’

There was no denying it. The way he focused on his work was so much like Jason that for a fleeting moment, she felt as if she were seeing Jason himself.

When she remained silent, Ian Shaw finally looked up. He glanced at the woman by the door and arched a brow coldly. "Something?"

His cold tone snapped Jasmine Warren out of her daze. She quickly forced a smile, hurried over, and held out the file. "President Shaw," she said softly, "this is a proposal for the new ad campaign I’ve been working on for the past couple of days. Please take a look."

"New ad campaign?" Ian Shaw’s brow furrowed. He thought for a moment, then his eyes narrowed with a smile as he asked, "And you know what new campaign our company is about to shoot?" ’He hadn’t announced anything to the staff yet,’ he thought. ’How could she possibly know?’

Ian Shaw rarely paid close attention to a woman’s looks. To him, all women were more or less the same.

But this woman... she felt familiar. He was sure he’d seen her before, that he might even know her...

But for someone who claimed to have a bit of face blindness when it came to women—despite having seen countless of them—he truly couldn’t recall where he’d met her. So, he had no choice but to take a closer look.

After his inspection, he mentally gave her a score and made a comparison, just as he always did.

Aria Joyce was a true knockout, a perfect 100. This woman, on the other hand, wasn’t ugly and was decent enough to look at. She’d get a passing grade—a 60.

Jasmine Warren was already on edge from Ian Shaw’s question, so being subjected to his direct, scrutinizing gaze made her skin crawl.

"Answer my question. How did you know we’re shooting a new ad campaign?" His assessment complete, Ian Shaw fixed his eyes on hers again, his tone chilling as he repeated the question.

She fought to suppress her anxiety and answered calmly, "I heard about it."

"You heard about it?"

"Yes. I heard President Shaw was interested in collaborating with Vance, so I did my homework and put together a new proposal over the last two days."

Hearing Jasmine Warren’s explanation, much of Ian Shaw’s suspicion faded. He nodded and took the file. As he glanced down, his eyes caught the signature on top. His brow twitched, and his voice was suddenly ice-cold. "Jasmine Warren?"

That frigid tone sent a shiver down Jasmine’s spine. She looked up at Ian Shaw nervously. "Y-Yes, I’m Jasmine Warren."

"You know President Summers?" ’He didn’t remember seeing this name when he took over the company, yet here she was. And her name just had to be Jasmine Warren. No wonder she seemed familiar, no wonder...’

Hearing that question, Jasmine Warren felt a wave of relief wash over her. She put on a relaxed smile. "I do. You could say Mika and I grew up together. We’re thick as thieves."
