Chapter 649: Chapter 641: Is It Okay?

"You should get some rest. I’m heading back now," she said hastily, turning anxiously to leave.

Seeing this, Leo Joyce reached out and grabbed her arm. "Tiana."

Her heart twisted into a tight knot. The oppressive atmosphere felt so suffocating she could hardly breathe.

But she tried her best to keep a smile on her face. She turned back with great effort, looked at Leo Joyce, and said softly,

"What is it? Is there something else? It’s getting late. You should be resting."

Tiana Grayson’s distant attitude made him uncomfortable. "It’s so late. It’s not safe for you to go home alone. Stay the night. I’ll take you back tomorrow."

At his words, she lowered her head and gave a self-deprecating laugh. ’Whether I go back now or tomorrow, I still have to go back. It’s better to just leave now and put a stop to these foolish thoughts.’

’Ruby Archer said it herself—Leo already has a fiancée. I can’t fall for him. I have to control my feelings.’

"It’s fine. I used to go home alone at night all the time. It’s nothing to worry about. You should just get some rest."

"You used to go home alone at night? You’ve been in Country M all these years?" Hearing she went home by herself, he felt a small sense of relief. ’That must mean Tiana has been single all these years, without a new boyfriend.’ But then he thought about it more carefully. The idea of her, a young woman, going home alone so often made his heart clench. A thousand terrible scenarios flashed through his mind. Back in Tridell, he would never have dreamed of letting her go home by herself. The princess he was supposed to cherish and protect had been fending for herself all this time. His heart ached for her, and at the same time, he despised himself. He hated himself for what he’d said back then.

’If I hadn’t broken her heart like that, we’d probably be married by now. We might even have children.’

"Yeah. So, I’m very familiar with the area. You don’t have to worry. Anyway, I’m leaving now." With that, Tiana brushed Leo Joyce’s hand away and walked toward the door.

"Tiana!!!" Seeing she was about to walk out the door, Leo Joyce shot up and ran after her. He wrapped his arms tightly around her from behind, burying his face in her shoulder. "Tiana, I’ve missed you!"

Tiana Grayson’s body trembled, and she froze in place.

Her traitorous tears began to fall.

She choked back a sob, terrified someone might hear.

"Tiana, it’s been five years. Five whole years. If this was my punishment, haven’t I been punished enough?" He’d never been one for regrets, but ever since she disappeared, he’d been drowning in it, regretting the words he’d said.

Every time he remembered what he’d said, his heart felt like it was being torn in two.

He felt her body shudder with suppressed sobs and knew she was crying. He asked cautiously, "Tiana, can you forgive me?"

Tiana Grayson steadied her wildly trembling heart. In a cool, distant voice, she said, "Leo, first... let me go."

"..." For some reason, her words filled him with a sudden, overwhelming fear.

Terrified of what she might say next, his face went pale. He rushed to say, "I drank a little too much tonight. And with the car accident... my head isn’t clear. I’m just so tired. So let’s not talk about this right now. Let’s just rest, okay?"
