Chapter 412 - 411: Jiang Liu Is Nothing Compared to Du Qin?

Chapter 412: Chapter 411: Jiang Liu Is Nothing Compared to Du Qin?

"Mm," Li Feng nodded casually.

His face betrayed no emotion, showing only a placid smile.

Beside him, Li Feng’s fiancée, Huang Peiqi, said cuttingly,

"We’ve been waiting for two hours. President Jun, you certainly know how to arrange things. It’s surprisingly difficult to get a taste of your son-in-law’s cooking, isn’t it?"

Her tone was dripping with sarcasm.

Li Feng was instantly displeased. "Watch your tone. Boss Jiang’s food is worth the wait. Just think about it—with so many people lining up, how many of them actually get to eat?"

"We’re able to eat it all the way here in Jing City. You should be grateful!"

This was a huge status symbol, after all.

Just a few days ago, he’d heard his friends talking about how delicious Boss Jiang’s food from South City was.

Everyone who had eaten there acted like they were a cut above the rest.

If his friends found out he could eat Boss Jiang’s food all the way here in Jing City, they would be absolutely green with envy.

Li Feng loved to casually flex on his friends.

Huang Peiqi pursed her lips and retorted with a look of disdain,

"A long line means it’s good? Street food stalls have huge lines all the time, and I get a stomachache every time I eat from one. For all we know, he’s just making money off artificial flavorings."

"If you ask me, it’s nothing special. You think his food is better than Guomao Grand Hotel’s? Hah. We would have been better off just going there. I know Executive Chef Du, and if I’d gone, he would’ve definitely served us a few of his private, off-menu dishes."

"What league is Executive Chef Du in, and what league is this ’Boss Jiang’? I bet he wouldn’t even qualify as an apprentice, would he?"

Huang Peiqi kept rambling on and on.

Part of it was genuine disdain.

But she was also deliberately talking it down. Wasn’t Jun Xinghe just using this meal to get her fiancé to give him a discount? Well, she was determined not to let him get his way. What kind of crappy food could possibly be that valuable?

"Peiqi!" Li Feng snapped, then looked at Jun Xinghe apologetically. "President Jun, please don’t mind her."

"It’s nothing."

Jun Xinghe smiled, unbothered, then said suddenly, "Young Master Li, have you heard about something?"

"What is it?" Li Feng asked, curious.

Huang Peiqi rolled her eyes in disdain.

"It’s about the Guomao Grand Hotel."

"The Guomao Grand Hotel?"

Even Huang Peiqi looked over, her interest piqued.

She assumed Jun Xinghe was trying to suck up to her.

He must have brought up the topic of the Guomao Grand Hotel on purpose, having secretly discovered that she, Huang Peiqi, was a regular patron.

Jun Xinghe chuckled. "Just this morning, the Guomao Grand Hotel changed its name."

"What did they change it to?" Li Feng’s interest was piqued.

The Guomao Grand Hotel was quite famous in Jing City, and he’d been going there with his father ever since he was a boy.

"The Second Under Heaven Grand Hotel," Jun Xinghe said slowly, a wide smile spreading across his face. "I hear it was Executive Chef Du’s suggestion, and President Cui agreed."

"Oh? Really?" Li Feng was taken aback.

He knew the name of Jiang Liu’s restaurant, so he ventured a guess. "Is Executive Chef Du trying to ride Boss Jiang’s coattails?"

Huang Peiqi was dumbfounded.

’Executive Chef Du is riding that Boss Jiang’s coattails?’

’Impossible!’

"Exactly!"

Jun Xinghe nodded. "He must have guessed my son-in-law is only going to get more famous, so he’s making his move early, hoping to piggyback off my son-in-law’s rising popularity!"

"I see."

Li Feng was inwardly astonished.

’Looks like this trip was definitely worth it,’ he thought. ’But it’s going to cost me a little.’

He was more than willing to build a good relationship with Jun Xinghe. After all, a good relationship with Jun Xinghe was an indirect link to Boss Jiang. Definitely not a bad deal.

Listening to the two men chat,

Huang Peiqi realized the story was probably true and was so intimidated that she fell silent.

She turned to the side and pretended to be engrossed in her phone.

Just then, Secretary Wang knocked on the door.

"President Jun, I’m back with the food!"

"Good, I see. Go heat it up."

Looks of anticipation spread across both Jun Xinghe’s and Li Feng’s faces.

Soon, Secretary Wang placed the heated dishes on the table, along with two wooden buckets of steamed rice.

The rich, savory aroma of fish made all three of their mouths water.

Huang Peiqi couldn’t help but swallow hard with a GULP.

She was secretly astonished.

’It smells so good!’

’It’s even more fragrant than the Sichuan Boiled Fish I’ve had at the Guomao Grand Hotel!’

The Sichuan Boiled Fish was surrounded by vegetables, with tender white fish fillets nestled in the center. The top was generously sprinkled with fried dried chilies, Sichuan peppercorns, and sliced green and red chili peppers. Just looking at it was enough to whet the appetite.

And that was before even mentioning the numbing, spicy, and savory aroma rising from the dish.

Li Feng found himself swallowing hard as well. "President Jun, your son-in-law’s culinary skills are truly impressive. It’s been a long time since I’ve craved anything this much. His food is definitely an exception!"

Even the simplest steamed buns on the table looked incredibly appetizing.

They were plump and white, resting quietly on the plate and steaming gently. You could even catch the faint, clean scent of the flour.

"Can we start eating now?" Huang Peiqi was the first to give in.

Just moments ago, she’d been the one sneering, but now she was the first to be seduced by the aroma.

No one paid her any mind.

Li Feng’s gaze was completely fixed on the beef chunks—neatly cut pieces of meat, so tender they looked like they would melt, glistening with juices. They were absolutely mesmerizing.

Secretary Wang said, "President Jun, I’ll take my leave then."

He was in a hurry to go eat his own portion.

He tended to fill up on rice, however, saving the tastiest dishes for his wife and kids.

"Alright," Jun Xinghe nodded. "Young Master Li, about that matter I mentioned earlier..."

"Young Master Li?"

"Huh?" Li Feng snapped back to reality. Realizing he’d been caught staring, he gave an embarrassed laugh. "No problem. You can rest easy on that matter. I’ll give you the best possible discount!"

"Shall we dig in, President Jun?"

He couldn’t take it anymore.

The acid in his stomach was churning, and he wanted nothing more than to devour every last dish on the table.

Jun Xinghe was inwardly ecstatic. It felt like he had the other man right where he wanted him.

The man was completely powerless to resist.

’So satisfying!’

"Let’s all dig in. After waiting so long, I’m hungry too."

The moment he finished speaking, Li Feng and Huang Peiqi were like wild horses breaking free of their reins, unable to hold back any longer.

They snatched up their chopsticks and immediately put a piece of tender white fish into their mouths.

The first sensation was searing heat, followed by an explosion of numbing, spicy, savory, and fragrant flavors on the tips of their tongues.

His tongue was both numb and on fire.

It was so good, Li Feng nearly swallowed his tongue.

’As expected of Boss Jiang’s Sichuan Boiled Fish.’

’It’s even tastier than the most authentic versions I’ve had!’

He grabbed a three-delicacy bun, dipped it in five-spice chili oil, and took a bite. Then he plucked a red chili from on top of the fish.

The heat was intense, but the incredible thing was that it was layered with the rich fragrance of natural spices!

"Delicious! Boss Jiang’s cooking is out of this world!" Li Feng’s face was flushed from the spice, forcing him to take a gulp of draft beer.

Huang Peiqi said nothing. She had already devoured three pieces of beef, her mouth filled with the rich flavor of the meat and bone marrow.

Her eyes were narrowed into slits of pure enjoyment.

Jun Xinghe smiled. Though he was practically drooling himself, he maintained his elegant composure, picking up a single, tender piece of eggplant.

’I have to keep up appearances!’

After a few more bites of the Sichuan Boiled Fish,

Jun Xinghe suddenly felt a pang of regret. ’I should have told Secretary Wang to save a portion of this for me for a midnight snack.’

It couldn’t be helped.

Jun Xinghe could only try to remedy the situation by sending a WeChat message to Secretary Wang: "Save half of your portion for me. I want it for tonight."
