Chapter 414: Chapter 413: Horny Brain
He’d only had a single bite of the rice in front of him.
"Hey! Why are you eating so fast?!"
Yu Guoguang’s face fell as he realized what was happening. He quickly picked up his chopsticks and began to eat frantically.
’Damn it! Old Hou’s playing dirty and launching a sneak attack!’
Yu Guoguang wolfed down a few large mouthfuls of fish. The numbing spice spread across the back of his tongue, and beads of sweat formed on the tip of his nose.
’Delicious! This Sichuan boiled fish is so damn good!’
’So fragrant and spicy!’
"Old Hou, how would you rate this Sichuan dish from Boss Jiang?" Yu Guoguang asked, trying to distract him so he could sneak in a few more bites.
Hou Canjun answered indistinctly, his mouth full, "...I can’t. Forget me, I don’t think even you are qualified to rate this dish. It’s better than anything we can make. What gives us the right to score him?"
"Fine. It really is much better than my own cooking. But I’ll stick to what I said: when it comes to Sichuan cuisine, I don’t think I’d lose to anyone!"
"..." Hou Canjun was speechless.
’Even if Boss Jiang only knew how to make this one dish, it would still be better than you knowing three hundred. At least his Sichuan boiled fish could make it onto a top international menu. And you? You could make three hundred dishes! Could any of them make the cut?’
Of course, he wouldn’t say that to his face.
Fu Lengleng walked up to the counter, pouting. "Brother Jiang, the chili oil is all gone again! And I only had one saucerful."
"Hang on, I’ll refill it." Jiang Liu glanced at the stainless-steel basin, a little exasperated.
’A full basin of chili oil, gone in the blink of an eye?’
’No doubt about it. Must be the out-of-towners!’
Because there was a guy with an out-of-town accent sitting right across from the counter. The man wasn’t eating the chili oil; he was practically drinking it—a bite of a bun, then a gulp of chili oil. Just watching him made Jiang Liu’s eye twitch.
But he was a businessman, not a stingy person. He actually felt a sense of accomplishment when customers enjoyed his food so much.
The restaurant was a hub of lively activity.
Out in the line.
Wearing a baseball cap, Song Yan furtively glanced around.
’Whew. Just this once. This is the last time... Good thing those two didn’t see me, or they’d definitely make fun of me!’
She had been the most stubborn one that morning.
She’d said she wouldn’t come for lunch, that she wouldn’t give Jiang Liu her money.
But it wasn’t long before her stomach was growling with hunger.
She just couldn’t resist.
So she told her friends she was going out to meet someone.
In reality, she had changed into casual clothes and snuck over to get in line.
Just as Song Yan started to relax...
"Huh? Sister Song?"
The moment Song Yan heard someone call her name, the hairs on her arms stood on end.
She snapped her head up.
Her jaw dropped.
Cao Xin and Lü Ziqing had somehow, without her noticing, gotten in line ahead of her!
They were also wearing baseball caps and face masks.
’Well, well, well.’
’So those two turned traitor even earlier than I did!’
"Ahem, you two are here too? What a coincidence."
Song Yan pulled down her mask. No point in hiding anymore.
She decided to be open about it.
"Yeah, quite a coincidence, Sister Song. Hee hee."
"When did you get here?"
"Just now! We bought our spot in line!"
"Oh, I see."
Lü Ziqing sighed. "What can you do? Not only is Boss Jiang handsome, but his food is also amazing. I can’t stand the thought of eating the boxed lunches from work anymore."
Soon, it was their turn.
"Boss Jiang, fifteen buns and three bottles of juice."
"I’ll take fifteen buns—a mix of all the fillings—and one bottle of juice."
"A serving of ham, Boss Jiang. And fifteen buns and a bottle of juice," Song Yan said, gritting her teeth as she bought the ham.
Her wallet was taking a major hit.
But when she saw the looks of admiration from her two friends, Song Yan felt it was worth it.
She’d completely forgotten what she’d said that morning.
"Sister Song, there’s no room inside. The workers in the shop next door aren’t here, and there are some stools. Let’s sit over there."
"Alright."
The three of them sat together.
"Can we split the ham between the three of us, Sister Song? I want to savor every bite."
Cao Xin had managed to snag a slice of ham from a friend that morning, and the taste... it was heavenly!
For the last few hours, all she could think about was ham.
"Sure."
"I’ll trade you two pork buns!"
"Here, Sister Song, do you like the shrimp buns? They’re all yours!"
The three of them ate, their faces filled with pure enjoyment.
"This is so good. I’ve never had buns this delicious before."
"And this ham is the best of the best! It’s a million times better than the ham from our company’s annual party!"
Lü Ziqing gazed at the ham with a hint of envy and remarked:
"You know, this morning I finally understood why Sister Jun married Boss Jiang. If it were me, I’d marry him in a heartbeat."
"Yeah, he is pretty amazing," Song Yan admitted with a reluctant nod,
"I just don’t get it. Why do men always seem to have a leg up on us women? Especially Boss Jiang. I thought I’d never meet a man who could catch my eye in this lifetime. Sigh."
"Boss Jiang is just so great. His cooking smells amazing, and he’s a total catch. Look at him—he’s handsome, has a great personality, and his cooking is just so tempting."
"And! He has a super-hot body, too! He must be really... capable!" Lü Ziqing added, her voice full of longing.
Cao Xin wrinkled her nose.
’She’s got a one-track mind.’
"The little girl Sister Jun was with this morning, was that their daughter? She looks a lot like Boss Jiang. So cute, like a little porcelain doll."
"Yeah. Sister Jun must be so happy. She has a great husband and a beautiful daughter."
"Her name is Tongtong, right?"
"I think so. All the neighbors love her. They say she’s polite and well-behaved."
Song Yan couldn’t take it anymore. "Have you two forgotten why we’re here?" she snapped. "What’s the point of talking about all this?"
"I can’t help it, Sister Song." Lü Ziqing threw up her hands. "If you have to blame someone, blame Sister Jun and Boss Jiang for being such a perfect match."
"Yeah, I agree! I can just picture it now: Sister Jun and Boss Jiang on the couch, hugging their daughter... what a blissful scene! Eeee! It’d be great if they had a second baby this year!"
Cao Xin chided, "Ziqing, that’s not exactly G-rated. Is that all you can think about? Why don’t you go discuss it with Sister Xiao Jun in person?"
"Shut up! I’m gonna kill you!"
After a moment of playful bickering...
Song Yan spoke, her voice laced with exhaustion. "If Sister Jun doesn’t come back, what’s going to happen to our branch office?"
The number of leeches at the company is growing.
She and her friends were feeling the pressure.
But they didn’t want to leave.
After all, Jun Xinghe had always provided good benefits, and they wanted to build their careers there.
"Sigh, yeah... President Xiao Jun is such a skilled manager. It would be so great if she came back."
"If she came back, we’d have our leader back. Otherwise, we have to deal with those disgusting men every day. It’s so frustrating."
Song Yan’s voice turned firm. "Alright, that’s enough. Listen to me. This afternoon, we’re going to find President Xiao Jun and have a serious talk with her. We’ll try to convince her to come back and lead us!"
"Okay, sounds like a plan."
Lü Ziqing said with a worried tone,
"But what if Sister Jun doesn’t want to come back? Boss Jiang is such a catch. If I were her, I’d want to hold onto him and never let go."
"Can you be serious for one second?!" Song Yan said, giving her a light rap on the head,
She continued, "Even if President Jun doesn’t want to come back, we still have to tell her what’s going on at the company. President Xiao Jun is brilliant; maybe she can give us some guidance."
Sigh.
