Dominance Evolution System: Sweat, Sex, and Streetball
Chapter 368: The Final StripThe official league bulletin came down two days later: Blacklist, now critically understaffed after the release of five players following the group’s implosion, fell under Article 14 of the sports regulations. Any team unable to field a minimum roster of eight players was automatically granted a one week window to complete their roster before disqualification. The upcoming match against the Dust Dogs had therefore been postponed by default.
The forums, for their part, couldn’t care less about the administrative detail.

In his office, Hector sat behind his wide black glass desk, a steaming cup of tea in front of him, casually flipping through a financial report on his tablet. Across from him, a woman in her forties, her thin glasses pushed up on her head, waited with a notebook open on her lap.
"Do you really want to move the date up, sir?" she asked. "We had planned to wait until the start of the playoffs, once no one would be paying attention to them anymore."
Hector didn’t look up from his tablet right away. "My little pet decided to come looking for me," he said. "So we move forward."
"And the official cover story, sir? To justify the dissolution to the league and the sponsors?"
He gave a slight shrug, his eyes still fixed on the screen. "Harlan. Embezzlement. We’ll explain that the team can no longer be financially supported because of his misconduct, that we’d rather dissolve the structure than keep carrying that kind of liability." He turned a page of his report. "Or we go with something vaguer. Strategic reorientation, internal restructuring, feminism. Doesn’t really matter, honestly, as long as it holds up on paper long enough that nobody starts asking real questions."
The advisor quickly jotted down a few notes, nodding. "Understood, sir. I’ll prepare the statement."
"Do that," Hector said, finally closing his tablet. "I’ll be at the arena tonight."
"You’re planning to attend in person?"
"I’m planning to personally make sure everything goes as intended," he corrected, a thin smile appearing on his lips. "After the match, I’ll head down to the locker room. It’s time to close this Chapter."
The atmosphere around Neon Nexus Arena was already boiling well before the official doors opened. Endless lines stretched along the sidewalks, the crowd thick and loud, street vendors hawking hastily printed t-shirts with the Baby Boom logo, bets being shouted back and forth between strangers.
"Fifty credits the girls break eighty points," an older man called out to his neighbor.
"Easy money," the other replied. "You seen their last game? They’re playing amazing now."
Inside, in the locker room reserved for Baby Boom, the atmosphere was a world away from the usual nervous pre game tension. Kai knelt in front of Hina, carefully adjusting an elastic bandage around her knee.
"Hold still," Kai said, pulling the bandage tight. "Or I’m starting over from scratch, and this time I’m wrapping it tighter."
"Bleh, it’s not me moving, it’s my big babies, they’ve got their own whole ecosystem going on," Hina answered, sticking out her tongue, but letting her keep working anyway.
A little further off, Miko handed Aiko a fresh bottle of water without her even having to ask. The five substitutes traded braided bracelets they’d made together the night before, each one now wearing the one gifted by a different teammate, a little ritual they’d started without really meaning to.
Tonight, for them too, it was a big night.
Rei watched the scene from the doorway of the locker room, a soft, faintly wistful smile settling on her face.
"To think this is the last time," she murmured, almost to herself, the words slipping out before she’d really meant to say them.
She patted her own cheeks quickly with both hands, chasing away the emotion threatening to rise, then clapped her hands together.
"Alright, listen up for a second!"
The conversations gradually died down. The coach, another Apex employee, looked up from his own notebook, curious to hear what the captain had to say this time. Rei had developed, over the past few weeks, a habit of pre game speeches he didn’t fully understand, but couldn’t deny had an effect on the team’s morale.
"I know we’ve done this speech a ton of times already," Rei continued, her gaze sweeping slowly over each face gathered around her. "But tonight, I need you to put stars in the eyes of everyone in this arena. Remember what this match means. Not just for the league, not for the standings. For us. Tonight is the big night."
Aiko nodded, jaw tight, Kai cracked her knuckles, Miko adjusted her glasses, a smile spreading across her face, and Hina stretched.
"Let’s give it everything," Rei concluded, holding a hand out toward the center of the circle they’d formed naturally.
Hands stacked one on top of another.
"BABY BOOM!"
"TOGETHER!"
In a private box overlooking the court, Hector settled in lazily, a glass of scotch in hand, his eyes sweeping over the arena as it filled quickly. He hadn’t come for the sport itself. He’d come for the finishing touch, to personally make sure everything would unfold exactly as planned before heading down, once the final buzzer sounded, to deliver the speech that would finish crushing whatever hope remained in that locker room.
The Vultures came out onto the court first, a solid team in the division, known for their aggressive defense and physical play, without quite being the most feared squad in the league. Then Baby Boom appeared, and the whole arena rose in a roar of welcome.
The referee blew the whistle, calling the captains to center court for the tip off.
[Baby Boom 0 — 0 Vultures]
The ball went up high under the spotlights. Rei jumped, her powerful legs launching her upward, but the opposing center, a full head taller than her, only had to reach slightly to tap the ball back toward her own side.
Their point guard caught the ball in stride, immediately chaining a double dribble between her legs, switching from right hand to left at a dizzying speed, before feeding her forward driving to the basket for a simple lay up, the ball rolling softly off the rim before dropping through.
[Baby Boom 0 — 2 Vultures]
But Baby Boom’s response came just as fast. Aiko brought the ball up the court, her eyes quickly scanning the opposing setup. She faked a pass toward Kai stationed under the basket, the motion convincing enough that her defender committed half a step, then instantly exploited the opening created, driving into the paint herself. A floater slipped off her fingers, the ball tracing a high, soft arc before dropping cleanly through the net.
[Baby Boom 2 — 2 Vultures]
Miko found her usual spot moments later, just behind the three point line, catching a precise pass from Rei. A defender rushed toward her, arm raised high to contest the shot, but Miko had already set her form, feet perfectly aligned, wrist releasing with that fluidity Nash had spent days perfecting with her.
Swish.
[Baby Boom 5 — 2 Vultures]
The first quarter continued at this steady pace, both teams trading baskets without either managing to really pull ahead. Hina, now fully comfortable in her role as forward, kept using hip fakes to freeze the opposing defenders, opening spaces that Kai methodically exploited under the rim, absorbing every physical contact without ever losing her balance.
On one particularly contested possession, the Vultures’ forward tried driving straight to the basket, but Hina perfectly anticipated the move, positioning herself just early enough to force a change in trajectory. Her opponent, thrown off balance, lost control of the ball, which rolled straight into Rei’s hands, already set to launch an immediate fast break.
Rei accelerated down the wing, before feeding Aiko who had just crossed half court. Aiko caught the pass without slowing down, continuing her run all the way to the basket for a powerful lay up that sent a wave of cheers through the stands.
End of the first quarter: [Baby Boom 22 — 16 Vultures]
In his box, Hector slowly raised his glass to his lips, a slight frown appearing, almost against his will.
The second quarter opened with the substitutes coming in, giving Aiko and Hina a short breather. Far from breaking the team’s rhythm, the subs integrated with impressive fluidity, each having absorbed the same tactical discipline as the starters.
[Baby Boom 27 — 19 Vultures]
The Vultures’ coach called a timeout, visibly annoyed by his opponent’s unexpected cohesion. His players came back onto the court with renewed intensity, tightening their defense, doubling up on every ball handler.
One of the subs, playing point guard, quickly found herself surrounded by two defenders, the ball firmly protected against her hip. She scanned the court fast, spotting a teammate wide open near the corner, and threaded a low, precise pass, slipping just under the defenders’ outstretched arms.
Her teammate caught it cleanly, took a quick breath, and let fly a perfect three pointer.
[Baby Boom 30 — 19 Vultures]
The Vultures’ center, frustrated by the growing gap, tried to force the issue under the opposing basket, chaining two low, powerful dribbles before spinning hard for a post shot. Rei, in defensive position, refused to give up an inch, arms raised high to contest the shot without committing an obvious foul.
The shot clanged off the rim, bouncing away. Kai launched herself, jumping higher than anyone else under the basket, snatching the rebound at the peak of her jump before immediately pushing the ball forward.
Halftime: [Baby Boom 48 — 38 Vultures]
In the locker room, during the break, the mood stayed focused but relaxed. Rei ran through a few tactical adjustments, the coach, reduced to an NPC role following his director’s orders, watched silently without interfering, while Miko hydrated, a towel draped over her shoulders.
"They’re going to come back more aggressive," Rei warned. "We keep the same defensive discipline. Don’t force shots, let the game come to us."
Aiko nodded, wiping sweat off her forehead. "They’re looking more and more frustrated. That’s a good sign."
The third quarter confirmed that growing tension on the opposing side. The Vultures, pushed by their coach to raise the tempo, started taking more risks, attempting rushed shots that frequently missed their mark.
Rei, meanwhile, personally took control of the tempo, orchestrating each possession with surgical precision. On one particularly fluid play, she grabbed a defensive rebound and immediately launched a three on break, Aiko and Hina spreading out on either side of the court as she advanced with the ball at center.
Reaching the three point line, she faked a shot, forcing her defender to jump prematurely, then drove straight into the opening created, finishing with a delicate lay up despite contact from an opposing player who arrived too late to really contest the shot.
The basket was whistled along with a foul, and Rei converted the additional free throw without the slightest hesitation.
[Baby Boom 63 — 45 Vultures]
Aiko, for her part, kept chaining explosive drives, her body spinning in midair to avoid blocks, laying the ball in with a softness surprising given the speed of her moves. On one of these drives, she found herself surrounded by two players under the basket, but managed to slip an impossible pass between their legs to Kai, positioned right under the rim for a brutal dunk that shook the entire metal frame of the backboard.
The arena absolutely exploded, the stands vibrating under the intensity of the cheers.
[Baby Boom 71 — 52 Vultures]
On the opposing bench, the Vultures’ coach buried his head in his hands, unable to find any tactical solution against this perfectly oiled machine that seemed to anticipate every attempt at a comeback before it even happened.
End of the third quarter: [Baby Boom 76 — 54 Vultures]
The final quarter became nothing more than a methodical confirmation of Baby Boom’s overwhelming dominance. Every possession widened the gap, every stifling defense broke down the Vultures’ last desperate attempts. Miko kept sinking three pointers with almost mechanical regularity, Hina systematically dismantled the opposing defense, and Kai completely controlled the paint, stubbornly denying her opponents a single offensive rebound.
On one of the final plays of the match, the five subs, entered together to close out the game, orchestrated a beautifully fluid collective possession, the ball moving quickly hand to hand until it found Yuna wide open in shooting position, who finished with a clean basket to the applause of the entire crowd, delighted to see even the substitutes shine in the closing minutes.
The final buzzer sounded, ending the match in a deafening roar.
[Baby Boom 98 — 68 Vultures]
The whole arena rose as one, the spotlights turning to the center of the court where the ten players gathered, breathless, sweating, faces lit up. They exchanged glances, a quiet, knowing smile passing between them, a silent understanding of what was coming next.
In his box, Hector rose calmly, adjusting his jacket, a cold smile already fixed on his face.
Their sudden fire tonight, he thought, heading toward the exit of his box, was probably just some desperate attempt to grab attention before the end.
He made his way down the stairs toward the backstage area, his bodyguards following at a distance, preparing to head to the locker room for what he already considered nothing more than a simple administrative formality.
But a different rumble began rising from the arena behind him, not just an extension of the usual celebration, but something more intense, almost electric, a wave of sound that seemed to shake the walls themselves.
He stopped dead, turning back toward the court, frowning.
At center court, in a perfectly synchronized motion, the ten players simultaneously grabbed the bottom of their jerseys and pulled them off in one motion, tossing them to the floor in front of them.
Underneath, Blacklist’s black and silver gleamed under the glow of the spotlights, visible from every corner of the arena.
