Done Breeding: Now I Rule the Beastworld
Chapter 25 - 24: This Request Is Too Cult-likeThe little fox was safe for now, but the search party looking for them, on the other hand, was in an uproar.
"Where’s Feng Qiwu?"
Hu Qiumu woke up to find him gone and was instantly struck by a bad premonition.
Xiong Xianhui yawned. Failing to notice the edge in Hu Qiumu’s voice, he replied guilelessly, "Oh, I heard some noise when I was half-asleep this morning. Opened my eyes, and I think I saw him leaving."
"I think he went north."
"What?!"
Several of them cried out at once, startling him.
Xiong Xianhui’s tone soured. "So what if he left? Why is everyone making such a big deal about it?"
"You’re so dense! Why do you think he specifically chose to go north?"
"Could it be... to find the Female Master?" The fog in his head began to clear, and Xiong Xianhui finally understood why the others had reacted so strongly.
"He left without saying goodbye. He must have thought we were slowing him down. And besides, he probably wants to be the one to get all the credit."
’If that was the case, wouldn’t all their hard work over the past few days have been for nothing?’
"Then let’s hurry and go after him! What are we waiting for!"
No one had ever imagined that the proud and meticulous Feng Qiwu would resort to such dirty tricks.
----
「By the Moat of Ten Thousand Beasts City.」
The little fox’s wounds, having had no time to heal, had been soaking in the water for a long time.
They looked swollen, inflamed, and somewhat macerated.
Once safely on the bank, the little fox could no longer hold itself up. Its limbs trembled uncontrollably.
The next moment, its legs gave out, and it collapsed limply to the ground.
Nearby, Chu Liangyu lay on her back, facing the sky. After being submerged in the river, her body was no longer steaming.
Clearly, the method had worked.
The corners of the little fox’s mouth lifted in a pleased expression, but even that joy couldn’t overcome the weight of its eyelids. It quickly drifted off to sleep.
"COUGH COUGH COUGH..."
Chu Liangyu’s mouth and nose were full of water, and the sensation of suffocating washed over her.
She startled awake, her body wracked by violent, rapid coughs.
The coughing instantly sent a flush of color to her fair cheeks.
Chu Liangyu pushed herself up with one hand, pounding on her chest with the other.
She only began to feel better after taking several deep breaths.
After a moment’s daze, she finally came to her senses and took in her surroundings.
Ahead, the first thing that caught her eye was a city enclosed by walls of rammed earth and stacked stone.
On the earthen wall, written in the script of the Beastmen, were the words: Ten Thousand Beasts City.
There was a Moat in front of Ten Thousand Beasts City, and she was just on the outside of it. All she had to do was cross a wooden bridge to get in.
’Why am I here?’
’Did someone bring me?’
She had so many questions, but unfortunately, there was no one to answer them.
As she scanned the area, she saw the little fox curled up in a ball not far away.
She had been so captivated by the city that she hadn’t noticed it at first.
She remembered getting the mask. Just as she was about to complete the trade, it had transformed into a fish and disappeared between her brows.
But after that... Chu Liangyu couldn’t recall a single thing that happened.
Noticing the numerous wounds on the little fox, Chu Liangyu looked down at her own body. She was completely unharmed.
’For some unknown reason, I must have passed out, and the little cub carried me away.’
’Looking at the state he’s in... could he have been injured protecting me?’
Seeing no one else around, Chu Liangyu grew more certain of her suspicion.
"Hey little one, can you hear me?"
He was so exhausted. He could vaguely hear a voice, but he had no strength left to respond.
Chu Liangyu stroked the fox’s head, her voice gentle. "You’ve been through a lot while this Beast Mother was unconscious."
She didn’t feel well at all. The Crystal Cores she had worked so hard to absorb had all vanished.
Moreover, her entire body felt drained and feeble. To be more precise, it felt as if she were recovering from a severe illness—she was completely debilitated.
Though the little fox was soaking wet, Chu Liangyu didn’t mind at all, gathering him naturally into her arms.
’Since I’m already here, I might as well go in and have a look.’
’If there’s a Witch Doctor, they might be able to help us.’
Perhaps it wasn’t peak time, as only a few people were heading toward the city from the outside.
There were no guards, so Chu Liangyu walked right in.
"Sea salt! Trade for it with just a clay pot!"
"Finest Beast Skin Skirts! Take one for just a wild boar!"
Similar cries echoed endlessly. The city was far more bustling than Chu Liangyu had imagined.
She continued walking and looking around. After she rounded a corner, the shouting suddenly grew faint.
Chu Liangyu paused, stunned. It felt as if she had stepped into another world.
The people in this area simply laid out their trade goods on the ground, neither calling out to customers nor paying them any mind, each preoccupied with their own business.
It was all strange and bizarre items; Chu Liangyu didn’t recognize any of them.
However, she immediately spotted a Witch Doctor not far away.
A flicker in her eyes, Chu Liangyu quickened her pace and walked over.
"Honorable Witch Doctor, could you please take a look at my cub?"
The Witch Doctor looked up, his ancient, bark-like skin creased into a mass of wrinkles. He gave her a glance and a slight nod.
Chu Liangyu crouched down, moving a little closer.
The Witch Doctor’s withered hand prodded the little fox for a moment before he drew it back.
"He’s fine. He’s just exhausted too much of his energy. On top of that, his power has just advanced. He’ll be fine after sleeping for a few days."
Chu Liangyu thanked him sincerely and turned to leave.
But a hand grabbed her arm. She turned to see it was the old Witch Doctor.
"You haven’t paid."
Chu Liangyu understood at once, but was confused. "I didn’t take any medicine from you. I still have to pay?"
She had dealt with Witch Doctors before. They never charged anything for a simple diagnosis unless they provided some kind of medicine.
’This one... seems like a real swindler.’
The Witch Doctor nodded, offering no explanation.
Chu Liangyu was at a loss. She was penniless; what could she possibly have to trade?
’The Carp Essence is still on me, but to hand it over for a few simple words? What a joke.’
When she didn’t react for some time, the Witch Doctor’s expression instantly darkened.
"No Beastman who trades here has ever dared to go back on their word."
As if his words were a signal, several uniformly dressed Beastmen nearby immediately started walking toward them.
Chu Liangyu hugged the little fox tighter and asked, "What do you want in exchange?"
"Your eyes."
"I can’t give you that."
The request was so twisted. Chu Liangyu took a step back.
"The items traded in this section aren’t ordinary. Since you came here, you should have been prepared."
"If you’re unwilling, they will help you complete the trade by force."
The Witch Doctor said nonchalantly, gesturing toward the uniformly dressed Beastmen.
"For just a few words, you want my eyes?"
Chu Liangyu’s expression turned cold. "You won’t even take this in exchange?" she confirmed.
The Carp Essence, peeking from a specially sewn cuff on Chu Liangyu’s sleeve, emitted a faint golden glow.
She held the item between her fingertips, looking questioningly at the Witch Doctor.
Chu Liangyu could clearly sense a change in the Witch Doctor’s breathing. He wanted it.
Seeing this, Chu Liangyu gave a derisive smile.
"A single word from me is priceless. Your eyes, and that item—I’ll take them both."
’This was the very definition of insatiable greed.’
Chu Liangyu laughed in anger. "You have quite the appetite. Aren’t you afraid you’ll choke on it?"
"Those are my terms. It makes no difference whether you agree or not."
Chu Liangyu finally understood. The reason this area was deserted wasn’t just because the goods were strange, but because it was run by a pack of con artists.
’They must have seen a lone female, with a cub and no Beast Husband for protection.’
