Doted By The Regent King

Chapter 1935 - 1873: Someone Is Watching

Privilege works everywhere, allowing Wufu to travel unimpeded to the legendary Heavenly Prison to visit her family’s Ah Jiu.

"Her Royal Highness the Princess Consort, this way please." The guard leading the way kindly pointed out the path.

Wufu nodded with a smile, and after walking for a while, she arrived at Ah Jiu’s cell, where Ah Jiu was leisurely reading a book at the table.

Wufu said to the guard, "Thank you for your hard work," then glanced at Mo Lan who followed her inside.

Money makes the mare go, the guard accepted the bribe Mo Lan slipped over and withdrew with a grin.

"Why did you come here?" Ah Jiu looked at Wufu disapprovingly; this is not a place she should be.

Wufu wrinkled her nose and said, "I just wanted to see what the Heavenly Prison looks like."

Listen, listen, is this something a wife should say?

Ah Jiu’s mouth twitched, watching her squat down, pull out a gold-thread peony hairpin from her head, elongate the gold thread, and deftly fiddle with the lock using one hand on the lock and the other on the gold thread.

Click.

The lock opened.

This left Ah Jiu and Mo Lan, who was standing by holding a food box, somewhat dumbfounded.

Besides that, even those hiding in the dark almost fell.

Was the lock-picking too easy? Are the locks in the Heavenly Prison this easy to open?

Wufu, with a gleam of eye, nonchalantly tossed the lock aside and took the food box from Mo Lan, walking into the cell.

Watching her swagger in as if no one was around, Ah Jiu could only respond with a mix of laughter and helplessness.

Wufu surveyed the cell; hmm, it wasn’t bad, before finally focusing her gaze on Ah Jiu.

"I’ll finally believe you came to see the Heavenly Prison!" Ah Jiu feigned resentment; upon arrival here, the first thing inspected was not him, but the surroundings.

Wufu knelt beside him, noticing a strip of cloth wrapped around his forehead with a dark red spot seeping through, and gently touched it.

"Does it hurt?" Pain flickered in her eyes, while internally cursing Emperor Yan a million times, damn bastard, you deserve a short, miserable life; heaven will surely take you.

"It’s nothing, medicine has been applied, a few days’ rest will heal it," Ah Jiu smiled, then said, "But it might leave a scar, so hopefully you won’t mind!"

"Later, I’ll have Bai Xiaobai make something to remove the scar for you." Wufu said and then led his hand to the table. "I’ve had someone make some tonics, why don’t you eat a bit."

She opened the food box, took out the bowl and spoon; keeping it warm, the stew pot was still hot, releasing a fragrant aroma when the lid was opened.

She sat facing Ah Jiu silently mouthing some words. Ah Jiu understood, his heart slightly tense, a fleeting coldness in his eyes, though his expression remained gentle.

Not trusting him, wanting to send someone to monitor?

Watching Ah Jiu obediently drink the soup, Wufu asked, "What did you say that has angered the emperor so much? At your age, can’t you swallow your pride a bit? He is the Son of Heaven, what good does opposing him do?"

Ah Jiu replied, "It was rash of me."

"Then write an apology letter afterward?" Wufu teased intentionally.

"I won’t!" Ah Jiu also raised his head, his face rigid, saying, "I have no guilt, nor was I wrong; you don’t understand, don’t say anything more. I refuse to believe he can imprison me for life."

To others, these sounded like stubborn words, but Wufu understood his meaning.

The emperor indeed can’t imprison him forever; even if Ah Jiu infuriates him, the content of their confrontation would never be divulged to outsiders.

Without reason, how long could he be imprisoned? The court’s ministers wouldn’t tolerate such autocracy.
