Ah Jiu received the message that Wufu entrusted to Mo Lan, and moved into action. Several subtle commands were dispersed, then he glanced distantly at Emperor Yan, nodded, and turned away.
Emperor Yan’s gaze was deep, with a flicker of coldness passing through his eyes. His lips curled coldly but quickly settled. He beckoned Prince Dong.
Prince Dong obediently came to his side.
Emperor Yan patted his head and said, "Stay by your father’s side."
He was his only son!
Upon hearing this, Prince Dong obediently sat beside him, while Xiao Qi, who had heard Mo Lan’s words, stood expressionless behind him, scanning the surroundings warily with amber eyes.
Emperor Yan glanced at Xiao Qi, so young yet calm, steady, and vigilant, this was the person of the Princess Consort of Jin.
He then looked at his son again and sighed lightly.
Ah Jiu arrived at a secret chamber, where a person was tied up and sitting limply on a chair, with hair disheveled and blood seeping from the corner of the mouth.
This was precisely Li Kui from Honglu Temple.
"Still not willing to confess?"
"In reply to Your Highness, not yet."
Li Kui raised his head to look at Ah Jiu, with a crooked smile at the corner of his mouth.
"You are loyal to Lu Shenxing," Ah Jiu smiled slightly at him and said, "However, I’ll see whether your loyalty to a dead man is worth sacrificing your own flesh and blood."
Li Kui’s heart ran cold.
"Bring the people in."
The sound of a baby crying came in, Li Kui’s heart raced wildly when he saw a woman holding a swaddled infant, accompanied by a bewildered three-year-old girl.
"Husband." The woman saw Li Kui on the chair and cried out, wanting to rush over, but her hair was grabbed.
Li Kui’s eyes turned red and he roared, "Let her go." He glared at Ah Jiu: "Prince Jin, the crime does not extend to the family, yet you harm innocent women and children?"
Ah Jiu looked at him and said, "Do you know? Earlier, someone told me that to show mercy to an enemy is to be cruel to oneself. Your wife and children are innocent, but was my mother innocent when you attempted assassination?"
Li Kui pursed his lips.
"As long as you reveal who is in this another palace and who is outside the palace, I will spare your wife and children, let them go." Ah Jiu said.
Li Kui still bit his lip and said nothing.
"Daddy, Daddy." The little girl sobbed in fear, mixed with the wailing cries of the baby, amplifying the echoes within this secret chamber to a deafening level.
Li Kui’s heart shattered, his tightly clenched lips bleeding.
"Husband." The woman clung to the baby, pleading with him.
"He’s just a dead man. You are loyal, you can go to apologize to him, but you don’t have to take your family with you?" Ah Jiu said again: "Your children have a long road ahead."
Li Kui’s defenses were breached, after a long while he said, "I want to say a few words to them."
"You can, but only for half a quarter." Ah Jiu turned around, waving his hand.
The guards released their grip, and the woman rushed over. Someone also untied Li Kui as Ah Jiu stepped out of the chamber.
Inside the chamber was a tumult of crying and talking that carried out.
Ah Jiu stood outside with his hands behind his back, observing. The sky which originally was drizzling rain had unbeknownst stopped, some clouds blown away by the wind, revealing a bit of blue sky.
Everything will clear up after the storm, right!
After half a quarter, Ah Jiu walked back into the chamber, and the guards took the woman and the children away.
"Prince Jin, if you don’t keep your word, even if I become a vengeful ghost, I won’t let you go!" Li Kui said.
"Rest assured."
Li Kui closed his eyes, clenched his teeth, and spit out names one by one, along with the layout of this another palace.
Master, forgive me, this was originally a path to death, yet I couldn’t stop her, so be it, we’ll accompany you together!
