Ye Wushuang and the Xiaoo Yue Celestial Roc followed Xiaoxiao and her three companions toward the village.

The village was called the Lost Village. It was one of the few settlements in the Lost Mountain Range, and its inhabitants had always made a living by hunting.

To Ye Wushuang’s surprise, their prey wasn’t ordinary wild animals, but Demon Beasts far more powerful than they were.

They had even hunted and killed Demon Kings.

What allowed them to hunt these powerful creatures were the wooden spears in their hands.

Ye Wushuang learned from Xiaoxiao that the wooden spears were their hunting tools, crafted by her grandfather, the village chief.

The runes on the spearheads were also carved by her grandfather. By infusing them with True Essence, the villagers could unleash a powerful killing force.

Ye Wushuang had the Talisman Introduction Treasure Manual that he had won at an auction.

He had studied it on his way to the Profound North Realm, giving him some familiarity with those runes; they were a special type of Talismanic Seal Carving.

What made it different was that the village chief carved them directly onto the wooden spears—a far more brilliant method.

That was how an ordinary piece of wood could possess such a terrifying killing force, ensuring the Lost Village’s survival in the perilous Lost Mountain Range.

Along the way, Ye Wushuang listened to Xiaoxiao chatter on about the people of the Lost Village, endlessly praising all her various aunts and neighbors for how good they were and how much they doted on her.

She seemed to trust Ye Wushuang completely, not treating him like an outsider in the slightest.

Her enthusiasm was infectious, and a smile remained on Ye Wushuang’s face.

Before long, Ye Wushuang and the Xiaoo Yue Celestial Roc arrived at the Lost Village.

The village was nestled in a valley, surrounded by mountains on three sides. The only open approach, however, was blocked by a defensive stockade.

Runes were carved all over this stockade, in the same style as those on the wooden spears. They were clearly meant to repel Demon Beast attacks.

Before they had even entered the village, they saw a crowd of villagers, old and young, standing outside the stockade, watching and waiting.

"Look, Uncle Zhong and the others are back!"

Some children cheered joyfully when they saw Xiaoxiao.

"Grandpa Chief, we’re back!"

Xiaoxiao shouted from a distance, waving her hands. In the center of the crowd, a gaunt, white-haired old man leaned on a cane, a smile on his face as he watched her.

"Look, there are two outsiders with them."

The crowd soon noticed Ye Wushuang and the Xiaoo Yue Celestial Roc in the group, and a murmur rippled through them.

"Village Chief!"

Uncle Zhong walked up to the old man. "These two are from the outside. They were lost in the forest, so we brought them back with us."

"Village Chief, we apologize for the intrusion," Ye Wushuang said, cupping his fist as Uncle Zhong made the introduction.

The old village chief stroked his beard, a smile on his face as he gazed at Ye Wushuang.

Ye Wushuang didn’t know what to make of the smile, but he didn’t dwell on it. The old man before him looked so frail he seemed as if a gust of wind could knock him over.

And yet, he was a Profound Level expert.

"I must thank you, young friend."

Suddenly, the old man bowed to Ye Wushuang.

This left the villagers baffled. They had rescued the two of them, so why was the village chief thanking them?

"Village Chief..." Uncle Zhong began, equally confused.

But the village chief simply raised his head and gazed at the forest outside. "If not for this young friend’s help," he said, "the four of you would likely not have made it back to the village at all."

Huh?

Hearing this, Uncle Zhong turned and followed the old chief’s gaze. That was when he saw a pair of blood-red eyes staring at them from the trees.

The color drained from Uncle Zhong’s face.

"Uncle Zhong, what’s wrong?" Xiaoxiao asked, looking up, not understanding the conversation.

"Let’s head inside first," the old village chief said calmly. Uncle Zhong then took out the day’s haul and distributed it among the villagers, who then entered the village, their faces wreathed in smiles.

Night fell.

The Lost Village was ablaze with light, a striking sight in the depths of the endless Lost Forest.

Inside the village chief’s wooden hut, Ye Wushuang and the old chief sat at a wooden table. The Xiaoo Yue Celestial Roc and Xiaoxiao were there as well.

"You’re from the outside world, young friend. I take it you’ve come to the Lost Forest in search of the Moon God Flower," the old village chief said with a faint smile.

Ye Wushuang was inwardly shocked. ’This old man’s perception is astonishing,’ he thought. ’He saw right through my reason for coming here.’

"There’s no need to be surprised. Others have appeared in the Lost Forest before you, and their purpose was always to find the Moon God Flower."

The old village chief smiled kindly. He wasn’t on guard, as he was well aware that Ye Wushuang’s strength was not to be underestimated.

’Others?’ Ye Wushuang thought. ’Could he mean Mo Wentian and his group? Those Celestial Prides arrived before me; they must have passed through here as well.’

"Village Chief, to be honest, I have indeed come in search of the Moon God Flower," Ye Wushuang admitted.

"Big Brother, the Moon God Flower is really pretty, but it’s in a very, very dangerous place. Anyone who goes there never comes back," Xiaoxiao said with a smile.

At this, Ye Wushuang’s eyes narrowed. He looked at Xiaoxiao and asked, "Xiaoxiao, do you know where the Moon God Flower is?"

"The Moon God Flower grows in the Moonfall Land, but the Land itself is hard to find. You have to wait for the fifteenth of the month, when the moon is at its zenith and the light of the two moons converges. Only then does it appear."

"But even if it appears, young friend, you must not go in. Not only will you find the Lost Clan there, but also something that everyone fears. Once you enter, you can never come out."

The old village chief warned him gravely, seemingly holding something back that he wasn’t ready to explain.

’Something everyone fears?’

This piqued Ye Wushuang’s curiosity. Judging by the old chief’s grave expression, he wasn’t lying.

"Big Brother, you can’t go in there, okay?" Xiaoxiao pleaded. "A really, really strong person went in before and never came out."

Ye Wushuang smiled faintly, touched by the girl’s kind heart.

"By the way, Village Chief," Ye Wushuang said, recalling the pair of blood-red eyes, "what is that thing out there? Why is it still lurking around?"

Those blood-red eyes were just too unsettling. They lurked there like a venomous snake, giving him a creeping sense of dread.

"Have you heard the tale of the fallen moon, young friend?" the old village chief didn’t answer immediately, instead posing a question to Ye Wushuang.

Ye Wushuang nodded. Young Master Xie Qing had told him that in Ancient Times, there were two moons, but one of them had fallen into the Profound North Realm.

"That thing is a vicious beast that fell into the Profound North Realm along with the moon. We call it the Celestial Dog!"

"In Ancient Times, a Celestial Dog devoured the moon, causing one of them to fall."

"The Celestial Dogs fell along with it into the Profound North Realm. They grow stronger by devouring Moonlight Essence, but after they landed here, the moon was gone and its essence grew scarce. Unable to feed on it any longer, they turned their sights on humans."

The old village chief finished his tale with a sigh.

"My second uncle and seventh uncle... they were both eaten by the Celestial Dogs!" Xiaoxiao added, her voice filled with sorrow.

’The moon fell because a Celestial Dog devoured it?’

Ye Wushuang grew curious. ’Are the Celestial Dogs really that powerful?’

’And why would they single out the Lost Village?’

’Why does the Lost Village live in isolation in the Lost Mountain Range?’

...

’There must be countless secrets at play here,’ Ye Wushuang mused. ’And it feels like the old village chief is hiding quite a few of them.’

Of course, he didn’t press the issue. If the old village chief chose not to speak, he surely had his reasons.
