The majority of the moose was devoured by Apexus. Much of what remained was eaten raw by Reysha, who delighted in a fresh bit of magical game. Both of the voracious members of the party knew to leave the choice cuts. Reysha stripped them off the bone and put them aside for Aclysia to then make storage worthy.
The metal fairy turned a majority of it into a stew immediately, filling the pot high enough with meat, water and vegetables to last for a few days. She, Korith and Yuzuki had their fill of it. Afterwards, they fell into a collective, well-fed tranquillity.
They were half a day outside Cold Embrace. Since they were five able-bodied Adventurers, they had elected to follow the coast and take the wild route to the City of the Wastes. What would cost the regular person either several days or their life would save them several hours. Not much in the greater scheme of things. Environmental hazards made the Leaf feel larger than it was.
It meant that they were in no particular hurry. They had stopped to collect dinner and with dinner had, there was no intention to move.
Instead, Apexus sat in front of the campfire, soaking up the ambient warmth. It felt nice to let the Heat Core depower after burning so much energy to keep his temperature up. It felt even nicer to share the moment with the shortstack in his lap.
Korith’s golden hair had grown to her butt. Usually, she kept it up in a ponytail, but in their own home, clothes were a suggestion that they only observed because they had a guest. Still, a lost hairband and casual clothes were a natural privilege of being in one’s retreat.
The kobold had her eyes closed, letting out little squeaking hums as the brush in Apexus’ hand pleasantly massaged her scalp. Putting her golden locks in order was an eternal fight against entropy. The texture was naturally messy and her leaping through the air several dozen times a day further tussled her silky strands.
A pair of arms suddenly wrapped around Apexus’ neck. The spontaneity suggested Reysha to him, but he recognised the lightness and the curves pressed against him as Aclysia near immediately. “Unusual of you to be so aggressive.”
“Attention,” Aclysia put her desires to a single word, the pout on her lips reverberating in her tone. She, too, desired cuddles.
Apexus calmly put the brush aside, then turned halfway to drag his first love over into his lap. She laughed, pleased and surprised, at the urgency of the motion. Getting manhandled into his lap was exactly what she had wanted, though. She wrapped her arms around Korith on arrival. Two happy women squeaked as they were squished together by the overwhelming might of their man’s arms.
Swaying side to side with his two loves in his arms, Apexus basked in the particular sense of raw happiness that only such closeness could provide. There was nowhere in all of creation that he would have rather been than there. There was only one thing that could have made it better and she found her way to him within seconds.
Reysha had glided off the couch. Covered only by a skimpy brown shirt and pants that failed to even cover the entirety of her chocolate behind, the tiger girl prowled towards them on all fours. “Room for one more?” she purred suggestively.
“Keep it wholesome,” Aclysia demanded.
“Awwww, okay,” the redhead agreed, a palpable sense of loss in her voice. She would get her groping in later.
One arm went up, Reysha went in, and the little hug pile in Apexus’ lap increased by one. A shortstack and a bottom-heavy angel, he had been able to contain between his arms, but with the mischievous redhead in the mix things were getting cramped. Cramped was a good thing when it came to cuddles.
Giggling and loving sighs and humming and kissing, the quartet shifted in front of the fire. Before Apexus knew it, his three loves had escaped confinement and were suddenly all around him, scratching his fox ears and wrapping their arms around his chest. Despite her declaration, many a lewd thought crossed Aclysia’s mind while she squished the firmness of his pectoral muscles.
“I have never seen a harem party as close as yours.”
Yuzuki’s comment had the quartet peter out in their motions. Korith was draped over Apexus’ left shoulder, Aclysia hugged the right side of his torso, while Reysha straddled his now outstretched legs, clinging onto him with all four of her limbs.
The thusly clumped Inevitable party looked at one another and then at her. “We know,” Reysha responded with a smug grin.
“Do we know?” Apexus asked.
“Uhm, yeah… well, I guess we do but you don’t?” Korith looked at the leader of the party. Though his days of total social unawareness were far behind him, there were still many gaps in his knowledge that those that had grown up the normal way did not.
“Most harems fail, darling,” Aclysia remarked. “That is in stable situations, with homes and societies. Under the stress of travel, adventuring parties that aim to be united in love scarcely overcome the drama that comes with unequal division of love.”
Reysha nodded. “Yeah, even as someone from a society where harems are the norm, there’s a bunch of jealous backstabbing going on.”
“It’s not as bad with the harems on Hoard…” Korith muttered. “But… yeah, they are not the norm there for a reason.”
“Ya lucked out because ya got three gorgeous gals with low jealousy… also you smell fantastic, and you can cum an infinite amount of times per day.”
“He can?” Yuzuki asked, her interest in the man rising from simple physical attraction to advanced physical attraction.
“Not infinite,” Apexus disagreed. “Enough. We have not tested the limit in a while.”
“Yeah, ‘cause we’d all pass out.” Reysha locked eyes with Yuzuki, making her advertising intent entirely blatant. “Usually, we’re panting and barely sapient by the time he’s done with us.” The words hung in the air for a few, charged seconds.
“Enough of the lewd talk!” Korith exclaimed. “More cuddles!” As she wished, the kobold was put between Reysha and Apexus and hugged until she had forgotten all about the conversation.
Aclysia stole a kiss from her darling’s lips, then retreated from the entanglement. Though she wanted to be part of it, she also wanted to do her duty as the first of his loves. Nothing would join this little heaven of theirs without extensive vetting. “What are your experiences with other harems?” the angel inquired.
“I have encountered a few parties that attempted it,” Yuzuki said. “One broke apart because the man ultimately paid much more attention to one than the other. In another, the three women could not stand each other and ultimately the whole thing fell apart. The one that lasted the longest but was doomed from the start was one where the woman wanted the relationship opened and the man went along. It made him miserable and she was… a poor showing of sapience.”
Aclysia nodded along. “We are none of these. Though Reysha and I had our issues initially, we solved them over two years ago. We compliment each other tightly.”
“I can see that. You four make for a unit with few gaps.”
To fit someone more in that, they both knew, was difficult.
