Edge of the Apocalypse

Chapter 41 - 38: Judging by Actions, Not Intentions

Chapter 41: Chapter 38: Judging by Actions, Not Intentions

He tossed the terrified Zhao Yun to the floor and walked straight out, not even bothering to close the door.

After her brush with death, Zhao Yun gasped for air. She clamped her legs together, but couldn’t stop the warm liquid gushing out from between them.

It was a fear that pushed her past her body’s physical limits.

Only after Yu Dong’s footsteps faded did she manage to catch her breath. After a long while, she clumsily scrambled to her knees and began wriggling toward the open door like a maggot.

Blood gushed from her hands, but she knew... as long as Lin Xiaojun and his men got in, she would be safe.

’Brother Jun will definitely take care of me... He promised... I did my part...’

At the same time, this only strengthened her conviction.

A college kid like Yu Dong, who had never faced the real world, wouldn’t dare to kill someone, no matter how angry he got.

’Idiot...’

As Yu Dong walked through the first-floor hallway, he saw a pair of bolt cutters poke in from outside, working on the chain locking the main door.

’So they found professional breaching tools.’

The chain Yu Dong had bought was a thickened 20mm model. It didn’t snap right away, and Liangzi was still struggling with it outside.

The muscles in Liangzi’s arms bulged as he strained with all his might, but he still couldn’t cut through such a thick chain.

"Damn it, why’d he use something so thick... We need hydraulic cutters for this!" Jiang Xupeng commented from the side.

Lin Xiaojun glanced through the crack in the door and saw no one, a theatrical smirk spreading across his face.

"Our doting on Manager Zhao wasn’t for nothing."

"Once we cut this, Building One is all ours."

Hearing this, Jiang Xupeng laughed. "Now we’re really going to eat well."

Liangzi, however, said, "Brother Jun, you’re the boss. Once we’re in, how we split things is your call. But I only have one request... don’t kill Yu Dong. I’ll convince him to join us. He’s a smart guy; he’ll recognize the situation for what it is."

A cold, sinister smile touched Lin Xiaojun’s lips.

"Fine. I have a lot I want to talk to our great prophet about, too."

Xiangti Bay Community was covered in surveillance cameras, from the elevators to the main gate to the underground garage. Lin Xiaojun had seen the entire process of Yu Dong preparing his apocalyptic supplies.

He never understood what Yu Dong was doing before, until... the zombie virus broke out and the apocalypse arrived.

"Put some muscle into it, Liangzi!"

While they were still struggling to break in downstairs, Yu Dong had already reached the fifth floor. He picked up the small steel pipes with fuses that Zhou had made.

Then, he grabbed the drone from Liu Ye’ye’s apartment.

He taped three of the small steel pipes to the underside of the drone, lit the fuses, and sent it flying.

Yu Dong glanced at his watch, counting down the seconds... and flew the drone toward the ground floor.

Beneath his helmet, Yu Dong was terrifyingly calm. He piloted the drone with the same silky-smooth control as Liu Ye, his timing as precise as Zhou’s.

BZZZZ~

The drone descended from the third floor, arriving at the first.

The images of Lin Xiaojun, Jiang Xupeng, and Liang Mian appeared on the tablet’s screen.

Liangzi: "What’s that sound?"

Jiang Xupeng: "Shit, it’s that bitch’s drone! Daring to spy on us!"

Lin Xiaojun glanced over.

"Peng, take it down!"

Jiang Xupeng, who was on lookout, leaped up and snatched the fast-spinning rotors, plucking the drone from the air.

"Hahaha~ Isn’t this just a freebie for us?"

"Huh? What’s that smell?"

The three fuses had burned down into the steel pipes, igniting the gunpowder...

BOOM!!!

A fireball erupted. The steel pipes exploded into shrapnel, and the flames and fragments instantly engulfed the three men!

The violent explosion echoed throughout the entire community!

A furious shockwave slammed into the entrance of Building One, crashing against the wall. Spiderweb cracks spread across the solid concrete from the impact.

Zhao Yun, who had just wriggled to the doorway, was hit head-on by the sonic blast. She went deaf instantly.

Her mouth hung open as she stared outside in disbelief, the smell of gunpowder in her nostrils leaving her stunned.

’Was that... an explosion?’

As the sound of the explosion traveled, every zombie trapped inside the buildings of the community heard it. They all shuffled to their windows in unison... their crimson eyes staring down at the site of the blast.

BANG! BANG!

BANG! BANG!

Pairs of rotten hands began pounding on the glass, letting out savage snarls.

In Building Three, the steel pipe wedged against the double doors to the underground garage was being crushed under constant pressure... low, dense roars echoed from within the garage.

The entire community was thrown into a frenzy.

When the smoke cleared, Jiang Xupeng’s entire face was gone. He lay motionless on the ground.

Liangzi had a pile of steel fragments embedded in his feet, back, and the back of his head. Bleeding profusely, he was using every last ounce of strength to crawl away from the pile of zombies at the base of Building One.

Lin Xiaojun’s clothes were torn, and his body was covered in wounds, mostly concentrated on his left side. A horrifying gash had been blasted into his left cheek, revealing the gums beneath, but his mobility was unaffected. He managed to stand up.

Just then, the main door of Building One opened.

Yu Dong emerged, dressed in a set of charcoal-black tactical gear.

SPLAT~

His hard tactical boots came down on a rotting corpse, squashing it into a pulp.

Seeing the outcome—one dead, two injured—he glanced back at Zhao Yun, who was on the floor looking up at him, and said:

"The three of them combined aren’t even a match for Zhou."

"In your world, all that matters are fists and dicks."

Zhao Yun, whose hearing had just started to return, heard him... Her eyes filled with despair and disbelief.

The team of apocalypse badasses she had put her faith in had been blown to pieces in a single instant. Everything she believed in was a joke.

She had no strength left to wriggle. She collapsed onto the ground, staring helplessly outside.

Lin Xiaojun bared his teeth. With his uninjured right hand, he picked up a baseball bat from the ground, took a few steps back, and pointed it at Yu Dong.
