After listening to her father’s decision, Mabel Quinn realized that her father had almost fallen out with her uncle to protect her, rather than smoothing things over.
She walked over to Kyle Kinston and said, "Kyle, let her go." To Alessia Quinn, being utterly disgraced might be more painful than being killed.
Only then did Kyle release his foot, and Alessia, as if escaping death, turned from red to pale and stared fiercely at Mabel and Kyle, full of resentment but also overwhelming fear, not daring to utter another word.
As for Camille Grant, naturally, she didn’t dare say anything either.
Christopher Quinn left with his wife and daughter, knowing that seeking his brother’s help to restore the reputation the Houghton Family had stripped away was out of the question; saving his daughter’s life would be a decent outcome.
Edward Quinn sighed deeply, his face full of complexity. The situation between him and his brother had escalated to this point, which wasn’t unrelated to his past indulgence. If he hadn’t been disillusioned and allowed the internal strife within the Quinn Family to fester, fueling his niece’s ambition, perhaps none of this would have happened.
"Dad." Mabel walked to her father’s side, understanding how difficult this decision had been for him today.
Edward gently patted his daughter’s shoulder. "In the end, it’s my fault. Had I realized earlier that you were my daughter, maybe none of this would have happened. I was too foolish. Clearly, Asher brought you to the Quinn Family year after year, clearly, he even requested the Quinn Family longevity lock for you, yet I never caught on, never understood his painstaking efforts."
If back then he had harbored even a bit of doubt, if he had given this child a closer look, or perhaps if he had shown her more love and care, maybe Asher would have revealed the real truth to him back then.
After saying this, Edward looked at Kyle Kinston and said, "You can protect Mabel, that’s great, really great... I hope that no matter what happens in the future, you can continue to protect her well. This way, even if I’m no longer around, I can rest assured leaving her in your care."
"Dad, what are you saying!" Mabel hurriedly replied.
"I’m already this age; how much longer can I live?" Edward chuckled, though his smile held a touch of bitterness. "Now that you’re by my side, I have few regrets in this life. I just wish that someday... Ah, well, enough of this talk. I’m going to rest in my room for a bit."
With that, Edward left the hall. Mabel watched her father’s somewhat unsteady figure, knowing what he had left unsaid—if he had any regrets, it was that he hadn’t found his wife, whether her remains or alive.
Mabel hoped her mother was still alive, and that one day she would reunite with her father.
Edward returned to the room, took a photo frame out of the drawer, and displayed within it was Clover’s photo.
Clover in the photo, youthful, with a flowery smile, her eyes full of unspoken love.
Edward’s eyes unwittingly grew moist, "Clover, I will protect our daughter and not let her suffer any more harm or grievances. Will you forgive me? Even if you want to hit me and scold me, even if you’d never forgive me in eternity, could you please appear before me?"
