"What if the Blood Curse really has appeared on her?" She was still worried. "She’s still so little, and there’s no Life-Bond by her side either!"
"It’ll be fine." Kyle Kinston comforted his wife. "The younger you are, the less obvious the Kinston Family’s Blood Curse actually is. Even if it really does flare up, it’s only mild. The Blood Curse gets worse with age, year after year, so at the very beginning, it doesn’t hurt that much."
"Really?" She looked at him, filled with desperate hope.
"Really." He answered, gently pulling her into his arms. His pitch-black phoenix eyes half-lowered, a flash of guilt and self-reproach passing through them. In the end, he had still lied to her. The pain of the Blood Curse in someone young was not obvious, but that was only in comparison to the pain that would come later. If it really flared up, it would still be very painful for a child.
But that, he didn’t dare tell her. He was afraid that if he said it, she would suffer even more, and her body would become even harder to nurse back to health.
"Mabel, our Ivy has never been a child with a thin fate. You have to believe in her, believe that she’ll turn misfortune into blessing." He said, "Maybe in a few days, we’ll find Ivy."
Mabel Quinn leaned into Kyle Kinston’s arms, her heart looping over and over with self-reproach. If only, back then, she had taken their daughter with her to Falling City, everything would be different. Who could have thought that that farewell back then would lead to what they were facing now?
Ivy had kept saying she would wait for her to come back, had said she wanted to show her the homework that the teacher had praised. But now, she flipped through her daughter’s exercise books again and again, yet her daughter was no longer by her side.
"Waa..." Unable to help herself, Mabel Quinn suddenly burst into tears, burying her head against Kyle Kinston’s chest, sobbing uncontrollably. Her tears practically soaked through his chest, and her cries stabbed again and again at his eardrums, and at his heart.
Kyle Kinston silently held his wife. He knew that all these days, she had actually been suppressing everything, afraid of making the people around her sad, so she had kept pressing down her own emotions. Now that she could cry like this, it was a good thing, perhaps. Only by crying could her emotions truly be released.
Under the moonlight, she cried her heart out, and he stayed with her.
————
At the Mei residence in F City, Amelia Foster anxiously rushed out from the servants’ quarters with her daughter in her arms. At her side followed eight-year-old Clarence Xenos. At this moment, the little girl she was holding was full of pain, her body jerking as if in convulsions, her small hands constantly trying to claw at her own body. If Amelia Foster weren’t pressing down on her daughter’s two little arms, she would probably have already torn herself up.
The little thing kept crying out in pain, her little face ashen-gray, looking downright terrifying.
Clarence Xenos followed his mother in a panic, constantly asking, "Mom, what’s wrong with my sister?"
"Mom doesn’t know. Mom has to take your sister to the Hospital right now. Clarence, you go back to your room first. Once Mom’s done getting your sister treated, I’ll come back." Amelia Foster said.
"No, I want to go to the Hospital with my sister too." Clarence Xenos said.
Amelia Foster had no choice. With both children going to the Hospital, she was afraid she wouldn’t have the energy to keep an eye on her son at all. But at this moment, her son’s attitude was firm. "All right then, but you have to stay with Mom and not run around," Amelia Foster could only say.
Clarence Xenos agreed eagerly.
