The intensity of this daylight pursuit had clearly exceeded the expectations of everyone in the Ji Family Task Force.
The main reason, naturally, was the violent demolition carried out by the man calling himself Andiel—who was, in truth, Demigod Lu.
The problem was that he seemed to be having more and more fun as the fight dragged on. His final strike even produced a shockwave so intense that the combined Ash Descent of two demigods could barely contain it.
Fortunately, they were all veterans of countless storms. Led by Ji Mingzhe, everyone who had inherited the bloodline ability immediately pitched in to stabilize the area.
Meanwhile, a terrifying pair of wings tore completely out of the crazed Rebirth Club demigod's back.
Each wing stretched several meters long without a single feather. Even suppressed beneath the Ash Descent, their sinister aura was palpable.
Coupled with his colossal body glowing with crimson light, he truly looked like a descending demon god.
A trace of despair even surfaced on the face of the naked demigod.
Of course, he was just reacting like a startled bird.
As such, this was primarily for visual effect. As for actual flight, he couldn't take off just yet; it would require careful fine-tuning.
But the visual effect was more than enough. After all, it wasn't as if everyone had studied aerodynamics.
"Keep running!"
His laughter boomed like thunder. As if deliberately toying with his opponent, Professor Andiel gently flapped his wings. His body didn't even leave the ground, but the man in the sky scrambled to dodge.
But just as the naked demigod realized something was wrong, an incomprehensible force seized him, dragging his body uncontrollably.
In an instant, he was yanked right back to the very monster he had just managed to escape, slamming face-first into a terrifying fist.
Boom!
The punch nearly obliterated the target's remaining upper half. Only a head wrapped in wings was left, spinning wildly through the air.
Yet Fu Qian was certain his opponent still hadn't died. Clearly, the man's vitality was exceptionally tenacious.
Of course, it was equally clear that one more punch would do the trick.
However, just as the severed head tumbled through the air, a faint flicker of instability rippled through the omnipresent black, white, and gray hues. The flaw expanded rapidly, then shattered with a resounding crash.
The target, previously left with nowhere to run, seized the opening to flee frantically into the distance.
"I had a wonderful time today! We'll meet again soon!"
Even now, the fleeing demigod managed to leave behind a trail of manic laughter, acting as if everything was fully under his control.
"Haha... Why wait for next time!"
The response he got was a booming, deranged laugh.
The man on the ground still wasn't ready to let him go.
In the next second, the colossal, blood-red wings swiftly retracted, tightly wrapping around the massive body as they wriggled in a bizarre and unsettling manner.
The madman still had a killing move!
"Lu... Professor Andiel."
Ji Xun finally couldn't hold back anymore and rushed over to Fu Qian.
Following the shattering of the Ash Descent, Ji Xun looked thoroughly spent. Standing before Old Man Lu—who was embracing a bold, youthful impulse—his face wore the weariness of five thousand years of history.
After a moment of deliberation, he decided to use the man's chosen alias as a sign of respect.
"Without the Ash Descent suppressing the area, a commotion of this scale might attract the Night Watchers."
His tone carried the weary plea of someone begging a mighty deity to rein in his destructive powers.
Unfortunately, Old Man Lu—clearly caught up in the thrill of the fight—completely ignored him. Beneath the wings, his body continued to twist and swell.
"Liushuang..."
This time, even Ji Tong couldn't help but glance sideways.
Ever since the conflict erupted, the young woman had stood there quietly. Whether they had the upper hand or not, she showed no intention of intervening.
"Elder Lu, let's take a break for now."
Under Ji Tong's eager gaze, Ji Liushuang finally gave a subtle nod, even though she still didn't look at him.
Yet, at those few soft words, the violent mutation occurring beneath the wings ground to an immediate halt.
Following two suffocating seconds of silence, the blood-red wings rapidly shrank, withdrawing completely back into his body.
The demonic, colossal physique diminished alongside them, soon returning to its normal size to reveal an elderly face.
Naturally, his shredded clothes didn't return. His entire body was bare, covered only by a dozen or so long snakes that stretched out from his wounds to coil around him.
He seemed entirely indifferent to this state. Reaching into one of his wounds, he fished out a mask and slipped it back onto his face.
To think he was actually that agreeable...
The Ji Family Task Force stared at the scene in dumbfounded silence.
They couldn't help it; the contrast was simply too staggering.
A monstrous figure who had just beaten a demigod to a pulp, whose power couldn't be contained by their combined Ash Descent, and who flatly ignored Ji Xun's pleas—stopped immediately just because of her soft command?
Not to mention how he had answered her summons instantly, and even acted as her orderly the day before, pushing her wheelchair around for a walk...
For a moment, Ji Liushuang's influence over him sparked countless wild speculations, elevating her originally fragile image to unfathomable heights.
...
'If I ever go streaking, I have to wear this. It seems I've accidentally kept that promise I made to the Pope.'
As the man in question, however, Fu Qian was silently marveling at an entirely different matter.
Furthermore, he didn't believe the shattering of the Ash Descent had truly been a result of them reaching their limits.
The only thing stretched to its limit was the psychological state of Ji Xun and the others.
The violently escalating situation had ultimately prompted them to back off, relaxing their suppression to leave A Gui an avenue of escape.
Even so, Fu Qian didn't mind. After all, he had been doing the exact same thing.
This was meant to be a simple meet-and-greet anyway. If he had genuinely wanted to kill the man, he wouldn't have been using the Biological Heavy Hammer; he would have initiated a Visceral Attack.
Naturally, while this fight successfully demonstrated the terrifying might of the Rebirth Club, his greatest harvest was the verification of his mission target.
Having the entire task force join the fray earlier allowed him to simultaneously test everyone's Ash Descent. In such an extreme situation, the odds that anyone had held back were incredibly low.
His conclusion: there were no signs of anything resembling a parasite.
This practically confirmed that his target wasn't among these people.
Now that was interesting. Theoretically speaking, almost all the Ji family elites present at the manor were gathered right here.
Lost in thought, Fu Qian glanced around. Aside from the half-collapsed building slammed into by the flesh ball at the very beginning, the rest of the utterly ruined battlefield was now perfectly intact, as if the destruction had never happened.
It truly was a miraculous ability.
This was probably why the Ji family had the confidence to orchestrate this operation in the first place.
"Shouldn't we get going?"
Amid the task force's lingering shock, Ji Liushuang broke the silence, her voice devoid of any readable emotion.
"We do need to leave."
Ji Xun was the first to snap back to his senses, giving a slight nod.
"We have to leave before the Night Watchers arrive, otherwise it will mean a lot of trouble."
He let out a sigh.
"I didn't expect that madman to be so difficult to kill. We put in all this effort, only for him to slip away in the end."
"It's fine."
But Fu Qian merely shook his head, clicking his tongue.
"Take your time, and you'll get a real feast."
...
What did that mean?
That was a demigod! You beat him to a pulp, and he was only an appetizer?
Staring at the Lantern that Fu Qian still kept firmly in his grip, Ji Xun hesitated for a moment before finally deciding to hold his tongue.
