"How did you know there was a problem with Sharman?"
Outside The Club, Chief Yuan patted down her clothes, as though trying to dust the lingering scent of hormones off her high-end couture.
Even with the dimmer lighting outside, she found the atmosphere vastly more comfortable.
"Once her initial fear wore off, she seemed a little too excited."
Beside her, Fu Qian shook his head and shared his observations.
"For someone with such professional physical control, she definitely lacked a little management over her facial expressions."
"Once I noticed that discrepancy, my immediate read was that our sudden interruption meant she was about to make some extra cash."
"She obviously couldn't have predicted we would show up, so it had to revolve around her client, Alan."
"And the most notable thing about that slightly frail guy is that he was the lucky winner from a week ago."
Yuan Shan listened closely and nodded.
"Midas is simply too generous to a gambler. It's hard to believe there's no hidden motive behind his actions."
"That's just a guess, of course. We can't be certain they're connected yet. Are you sure we shouldn't just assume the guy has already left and go see Henry?"
She blinked at Fu Qian.
"That doesn't sound like the proper attitude for someone keeping a watch."
Fu Qian looked genuinely surprised.
"Are we already at the point of colluding to slack off?"
"Who told that guy to come up with such a baffling idea? He's got me running around in the middle of the night."
Chief Yuan showed absolutely no shame.
"I'd like nothing more than to go back and change my clothes right now."
"I understand how you feel."
Fu Qian wasn't the least bit surprised by her response.
"So let's go chat with this Ross as quickly as possible."
"I'll lead the way."
When Fu Qian didn't take up her suggestion to just close the case, Yuan Shan sighed, though she wasn't entirely surprised.
...
Fu Qian was naturally telling the truth.
As for whether Ross was actually connected to Midas, he had only deduced that it was a possibility.
Ultimately, Sharman was just earning some extra cash on the side. Whatever she knew was clearly limited.
But whatever she had received from Alan, combined with what he had just given her, definitely added up to a generous sum.
After applying both grace and might, given her personality, the chances of her hiding anything else were extremely slim.
Of course, it wasn't as if he lacked the means to verify that.
If Chief Yuan hadn't been right beside him, interrogating her through a Lucid Dream would have been far simpler. He wouldn't have even needed to spend any money.
However, mindful of Chief Yuan's impression of him, Fu Qian had decided to hold back on using methods that made him look like a sinister mastermind working behind the scenes.
As for Yuan Shan's suggestion, it wasn't completely off the table. At the very least, it could serve as a reverse probe into Old Man Henry.
It was just that, for him, the nature of this matter had already changed.
After making all these rounds, Fu Qian's curiosity had only grown regarding this ordinary person whom even a Divine Emissary had never met.
...
"This is the place."
The address Sharman had provided was, surprisingly, a hotel room.
It was even in the exact same hotel as the casino they had already visited twice.
They didn't even bother with the front door. Following Yuan Shan's lead, the two of them simply snuck inside. Unfortunately...
"It seems empty."
Looking at the tightly shut door, Yuan Shan frowned slightly.
For her and Fu Qian, there was absolutely no need to open the door to confirm from this distance.
"The casino?"
"Probably."
Yuan Shan looked slightly dejected. The situation wasn't entirely unexpected, but it clearly made their attempt to strike directly at the enemy's heart feel a little foolish.
"Then let's go take a look."
Fu Qian, on the other hand, rubbed his hands together eagerly.
"My luck happens to be red-hot right now."
...
As it turned out, Brother Moglin indeed knew how to act with discretion.
Visiting the casino for the third time, the two faced no obstruction whatsoever.
Moglin clearly hadn't complained to anyone about his encounter.
At first glance, that might seem overly cowardly, but thinking carefully, it was a wise move.
The odds of two desperadoes—ones capable of sneaking weapons into a casino—showing up again to threaten his life were likely much higher than the odds of them being caught.
His chips were already lost, and Brother Moglin clearly didn't want to make any further sacrifices on their account.
Unfortunately, despite such an appropriate reaction, the involved parties didn't seem to appreciate his discretion.
Facing Fu Qian and Yuan Shan again, Moglin's face turned a shade of green.
"Your luck is pretty good!"
Fu Qian acted as if he didn't notice Moglin's reaction, smiling as he glanced at the table.
In just that short amount of time, a sizable pile of chips had gathered in front of the man again.
"You two..."
Obviously, even gamblers had tempers.
Moglin gripped the edge of the gambling table, looking like he absolutely refused to treat them to another round of drinks.
"Do you know a guy named Ross?"
Unfortunately, Fu Qian didn't even spare a glance at the intense emotion brewing within the man.
You had to be kidding. With so many people in the casino, was he really supposed to track the guy down one by one?
With such an experienced veteran right here, how could he not ask for a consultation?
"Ross?"
It seemed they weren't here to rob him. After tossing out the bewildered question, Moglin quickly answered before they could even react.
"I do know one. I even saw him just a moment ago."
He pointed in a certain direction. Leaving Moglin with a slightly apprehensive expression, the odd pair simply turned and walked away.
...
"Ross?"
Not long after, a voice suddenly rang out behind a certain someone sitting at a slot machine.
"Oh?"
The blond young man didn't even turn his head as he carefully pulled the lever down.
"Did Moglin send you to find me?"
He didn't deny his identity, explicitly demonstrating that he had been paying attention to his surroundings.
"No."
However, the voice behind him gave a negative answer.
...
This clearly caught Ross a little off guard. Even so, he didn't rush to look back. Only when the spinning symbols on the screen came to a stop did he sigh and turn around.
"I don't believe I know you two."
His expression was entirely natural as he looked at Fu Qian, who had just spoken.
"Xun. We came from Sharman."
Fu Qian offered a look of admiration and spoke with a smile.
...
And clearly, that single sentence instantly made Ross think of far too many things, so much so that he briefly forgot to chew the snack in his mouth.
"I'm looking for Midas."
Fu Qian, displaying complete faith in the man's intellect, continued speaking.
"You're looking for that legendary Angel of luck? Then I'm sorry, but I might have to disappoint you."
Sure enough, Ross didn't stay dazed for long. He shook his head as if coming to a sudden realization.
But immediately after, his gaze froze on the other man's hand, and he subconsciously patted his own pocket.
Between the fingers of this uninvited guest calling himself Xun was a pale yellow sticky note.
"I'm glad to see that this isn't a daily ledger of your income and expenses."
Fu Qian marveled as he carefully read the contents of the note.
"Clearly, the shift rotations of the casino are far more interesting to you than winning or losing."
"I like to doodle when I'm bored."
Ross remained fairly composed.
"Are you planning to report me to the casino?"
"No, we're looking for Midas."
Fu Qian shifted his stance slightly, showing off the firearm tucked at his waist for the third time.
