Chapter 1297: Fallen Sanctuary

Disparaging one to praise another was always a practical mocking technique.

It was obvious Olinter really didn't want his emotions stirred by Fu Qian's words.

Unfortunately, that reaction meant they already were.

It seemed his earlier instinct was correct. Within The Order, the Hunters' status was somewhat delicate.

Even their own people seemed to harbor slightly complicated feelings toward them.

"From what you just said, can I assume the Blood Clan is a group more blessed by the Favor of the Stars than The Order?"

After fighting to calm himself, Olinter finally spoke.

"Are the glory and boons we take such pride in actually laughably childish to you?"

"Pretty much."

"Heh... What a pity that aside from an arrogant freak standing right in front of me, I don't see this so-called transcendence of yours at all."

Refusing to accept this, Olinter sneered repeatedly.

"That's right. You can't."

Fu Qian maintained his refined, easygoing demeanor.

...

"Are you saying that not even knowing your background is, in itself, a display of childishness?"

Sure enough, love made a person grow. At this moment, Olinter's comprehension had visibly sharpened.

"Don't be modest. Before I revealed myself, you guys weren't even sure the Blood Clan existed, right?"

Fu Qian confirmed his deduction, unceremoniously continuing to draw aggro for Jacques and his clan.

"I don't blame you, really. After all, my kin disdain even seeking a sense of superiority from the likes of you."

"When you are born possessing what others can never obtain in a lifetime, neither envy nor jealousy can easily affect you."

This statement completely contradicted the facts. Jacques and his kin clearly hadn't cultivated their mindsets to such a realm.

Hiding their identities was one thing, but they still secretly pursued a sense of superiority. Claiming they didn't want it while their actions proved otherwise—that was exactly the elegant awkwardness they had displayed earlier.

However, considering the camaraderie of their joint consultation, Fu Qian offered a few moderate exaggerations to help them draw a little more hatred.

"For instance?"

The effect was immediate. Olinter sneered, demanding an explanation to test his newfound comprehension.

"Taboo Commandment. That's what you call it, right?"

This naturally couldn't stump Fu Qian. He instantly parroted what he had just learned.

"Regrettably, every member of the Blood Clan is born possessing this so-called standard of your saints. We call it a welcoming gift from the Stars."

"And because of the purity of our existence, we don't even have to pay a price to use it."

"Like I'd believe—"

Olinter didn't finish his sentence. In his field of vision, a spear woven from blood-colored patterns was slowly stretching into shape.

"Spear of Fatal Death."

Fu Qian's movements looked relaxed and leisurely as he plagiarized Jacques's lines.

"A target struck by it will enter an unstoppable state of withering."

"But there's no need to be too nervous. Even among the Blood Clan, the proportion of those who can master it isn't high."

"You're spouting nonsense. I don't feel the aura of a commandment from it at all."

As the target of the spear, Olinter ground his teeth and challenged him, despite his discomfort.

"Yes, you can't feel it."

Unfortunately, Fu Qian had absolutely no intention of arguing, and even agreed with him.

...

Yet this flippant remark made Olinter naturally recall how he had failed to sense the Blood Clan's transcendence earlier.

With the two corroborating each other, his eyes flickered, and he suddenly lost some of his confidence.

Of course, his judgment was actually correct.

Although he had tried his best to replicate it, Fu Qian had at most managed to imitate fifty or sixty percent of the Spear of Fatal Death's appearance.

The material used was undoubtedly his own flesh and blood, and needless to say, it had absolutely zero effect.

But that wasn't important. Nuclear deterrence didn't require actually dropping a bomb.

Without giving Olinter a chance to admire it further, the spear in Fu Qian's hand rapidly faded away.

"I only showed you this because it's more visual. Besides, I can reveal one more thing. I actually walked right in just now. Your people even opened the door for me. You can verify that later."

Facing Olinter's less-than-pleasant expression, Fu Qian looked increasingly smug.

"Unlike the Spear of Fatal Death, almost every member of the Blood Clan has mastered this trick."

"In fact, this is why I appreciate the Hunters more. In my eyes, compared to you all, they are clearly much more similar to us."

"Every Hunter is a saint. They originally should have become members of the Harmonic Sanctuary."

Facing this validation from Fu Qian for the second time, the heavily battered Olinter couldn't help but feel a shared sense of honor, his expression turning somewhat solemn.

"It's a pity the Taboo Commandment they wield is truly too special."

"Along with their ability to sense filth comes an unusual price."

"Of course, even so, in my eyes, they are still far nobler than you guys who feel so good about yourselves."

"You're right. That's just how our Blood Clan is. We look high and mighty, but deep down, we're utterly despicable."

Facing the accusation, Fu Qian disparaged himself without the slightest psychological burden.

Fallen Sanctuary?

He had to admit, the information Olinter provided was quite interesting.

The Hunters' sense of smell indeed originated from some extremely special, high-ranking commandment.

And based on his phrasing, it was a constant, passive state that couldn't be canceled.

In fact, he had deliberately brought it up repeatedly just now precisely because he suspected as much.

Fortunately, after some beating around the bush, Brother Olinter had been very cooperative.

It seemed he needed to find a chance to have some in-depth communication with the members of the Fallen Sanctuary.

...

"So you aren't going to kill me?"

Having initially thought the other party was just posturing, Olinter finally lost his composure when he saw that Fu Qian was truly in no rush.

"This is just a follow-up visit. Why would I kill the patient?"

Reminded by his words, Fu Qian sized up the Lantern Olinter was subconsciously shielding behind himself and shook his head slightly.

It was obvious this guy wasn't quite ready to face death without flinching.

"Good... But I don't mind reminding you that they'll still come over to check my condition at regular intervals."

"You might need to consider how to deal with your own Lantern next."

"Makes sense. Thanks for the reminder."

Fu Qian listened earnestly, nodding in thanks.

He studied the Lantern in his hand. The next moment, he reached out, opened the shade, and exposed the flame inside.

What is this guy trying to do?

Watching this scene unfold, Olinter was momentarily petrified.

Unfortunately, Fu Qian clearly had no intention of explaining. Staring at the flickering flame, he activated Pseudo-God Incarnation in the next moment.

Accompanied by a sudden surge in Rank, a wondrous feeling washed over him. The resonance between himself and the flame seemed to disconnect for a split second.

Whoosh—

Under Olinter's horrified gaze, Fu Qian took a deep breath and blew at the swaying flame.
