Chapter 15: Passive Slowdown

This little bitch is ruthless!

Fu Qian stared expressionlessly at the woman who had transformed into Wolverine.

To deal with an ordinary bodyguard, she was actually pulling out a trick like this.

Beside him, Captain Gu had paled, staring nervously at Fu Qian.

He flashed a covert hand signal, urging him to surrender as quickly as possible.

Fu Qian waved him off, gesturing for him to relax.

Those Razor Blades looked intimidating, but they lacked length. Unless they hit a vital organ, they wouldn't do much damage—just tear open some flesh at worst.

Generally speaking, anyone who relied on flashy toys like that usually lacked actual strength.

By now, the butler had very considerately ordered his staff to clear the area, opening up a space for the fight.

"Don't blink, handsome. Here I come!"

Little Wolf Girl smiled radiantly, her voice sickly sweet.

She stuck out her bright red tongue and licked the Razor Blades on her fingertips. The next instant, she became a blur, closing the distance to Fu Qian in a flash.

Without a moment's hesitation, she swiped directly at his face.

Not good enough!

Facing this vicious strike, Fu Qian merely frowned.

Am I too strong, or is she just too weak? I don't feel any of the terror I felt facing the White Porcelain Woman's blade.

To anyone else, the woman's movements might have seemed lightning-fast and completely unstoppable.

But to Fu Qian, she was as sluggish as an old man practicing Tai Chi.

Without even shifting his stance, Fu Qian simply tilted his head and dodged the strike.

He even snapped his head right back into place.

Anyone with poor eyesight would have simply assumed Little Wolf Girl had missed.

"You've got some moves!"

Missing her strike, the woman darted back to put some distance between them, staring at Fu Qian in shock and uncertainty.

Fu Qian completely ignored her, glancing over at Eldest Young Master Ye instead.

To Fu Qian, the middle-aged man who had stepped out of the car alongside them was clearly a cut above the rest.

If he made a move, it would at least be a bit more interesting than fighting Little Wolf Girl.

Right now, that man wore a grave expression, his eyes narrowed as he stared back.

"Again!"

Little Wolf Girl gritted her teeth.

Perhaps fueled by the anger of being ignored, she moved even faster this time. The Razor Blades between her fingers let out a sharp whistle as they tore through the air.

Yet in the very next instant, a sharp pain shot through Little Wolf Girl's wrist. To her absolute horror, her arm was locked in her target's one-handed grip.

Even though her target was right in front of her, she couldn't push her claws a single inch further.

So I'm actually this strong now.

Fu Qian gripped her slender wrist, marveling inwardly.

"What tier of transcendent are you?"

"Tier... 8... Just who the hell are you?!"

She didn't understand why he was asking that, but no matter how stupid Little Wolf Girl was, she knew she had severely misjudged him.

How could this guy possibly be an ordinary bodyguard!

Tier 8? Zhu Bajie was a hell of a lot stronger than you.

Fu Qian snorted.

This woman is actually Tier 8? I feel like I could take ten of her without breaking a sweat!

The Brawler Form is even stronger than I thought.

Looking down at the Razor Blades on the ground, and then at her hand—which had been crushed completely out of shape—Little Wolf Girl's face twisted in agony.

Fu Qian didn't feel a shred of pity. The woman hadn't held back in the slightest when she attacked.

Against a supposed ordinary person, she had not only bared her claws but aimed every single strike right at his face.

She was clearly eager to cater to Eldest Young Master Ye's whims, fully intending to disfigure him.

What a loyal dog.

Fu Qian took a breath and tightened his grip.

Little Wolf Girl let out a scream of agony as the remaining Razor Blades dropped from her fingers to the floor.

But before her scream could even end, a violent force slammed into her side.

Little Wolf Girl was sent flying like a cannonball. She crashed headfirst into the very car she had just stepped out of, struggling several times before failing to get back up.

"Not bad, right?"

Fu Qian turned his head after kicking his opponent away.

Eldest Young Master Ye's expression was spectacular, his eyes glued to the leg Fu Qian had just used to kick her.

It was obvious that he could never have pulled off a kick that smooth himself.

He wasn't the only one. Captain Gu's mouth was hanging wide open, his eyes practically bugging out of his head.

"Careful."

The middle-aged man beside Eldest Young Master Ye stepped forward, pulling him behind his back with a deeply guarded expression.

Killing intent surged.

Now this guy is a bit more interesting. Seeing the middle-aged man prepare to attack, Fu Qian felt no fear, only excitement.

That woman from earlier hadn't been nearly enough of a challenge.

How did the old saying go?

If you're looking for a thrill, take it all the way.

Since the fight had already started, there was no way a group like this was going to shake hands and walk away. He might as well not waste any time and just drop them all right now.

[Wen Li has died. Containment Failure.]

[Evaluation: passive slowdown]

[Penalty: SAN Value -5. Current SAN Value: 37]

Just as an all-out brawl was about to erupt, a prompt suddenly echoed in his ears.

...!

Are you fucking kidding me?

I knew this mission wouldn't be simple, but she just died?

Teleported back to the Warehouse, Fu Qian found the outcome completely incomprehensible.

There wasn't a single sound! She was a fairly high-level transcendent, sitting inside her own heavily guarded Wen Family Luxury Estate, and she just died in complete silence?

It seemed his intuition had been right—this mission was going to be far more difficult than he had imagined.

What was worse, the system had actually flagged him for a passive slowdown and outright docked him 5 points of his SAN Value.

That's the equivalent of five extra lives! This is completely outrageous.

For a moment, Fu Qian felt thoroughly crushed, the joy of his recent upgrade completely washed away.

He decided to pin all the blame squarely on Eldest Young Master Ye and his merry band of thugs.

[Event Replay]

Instead of rushing straight back in, Fu Qian decisively opted to replay the sequence of events.

Five minutes and twelve seconds. Wen Li died, and the mission failed.

[Consume 1 point of SAN Value to attempt Containment again.]

Having pinpointed the exact time of Wen Li's death, Fu Qian touched the Mist Door.

The Wen Family Luxury Estate materialized around him once more.

This time, he didn't wait for Captain Gu to come over and lecture him. Fu Qian took the initiative, walking right up to him to ask the question on his mind.

"I heard Eldest Miss Wen is a genius transcendent, and she's already at least Tier 7. Does she really need our protection?"

"You've got good ears on you, kid!"

Captain Gu shot Fu Qian a surprised look.

"It's just a rumor I heard," Gu continued. "They say she's a Psychic Type. Before she advances to the Mid Tier, her physical constitution is incredibly fragile—barely any better than an ordinary person's.

"That's exactly why so many assassins have been showing up lately. They want to strangle her in the cradle. Once she actually advances, she'll be a lot harder to deal with."

That explained a lot. Captain Gu's knack for gathering gossip was actually pretty useful.

Fu Qian looked up. The butler was already walking out of the villa, which meant Eldest Young Master Ye's car would arrive at any moment.

His next step was to figure out exactly how Eldest Miss Wen had died.

According to the previous timeline, Eldest Miss Wen would die at exactly five minutes and twelve seconds.

Which meant he had five minutes, at most.

But that raised a question: how was he supposed to investigate?

Thanks to that little physical altercation in the previous run, Fu Qian now had a very solid grasp of his current combat strength.

Around the edge of the Plaza stood over a dozen towering white pillars, each one carved from a single, solid block of stone.

Seeing Eldest Young Master Ye's car pulling up, Fu Qian took advantage of everyone's distracted attention to slip over to one of the pillars and deliver a vicious kick to its base.

Half a minute later, accompanied by a deep, rumbling groan...

The massive pillar crashed heavily to the ground.

Screams erupted from all sides as the shrill blare of alarms instantly filled the air.

Eldest Young Master Ye's car hadn't even come to a full stop before four figures scrambled out of it like lightning.

The welcoming committee behind the butler instantly dissolved into chaos.

Taking advantage of the sheer pandemonium, Fu Qian slipped inside the villa along with the rushing crowd.
