So is this the ultimate form of the Dead Sea?
The black-haired woman's parting words were undeniably shocking.
The fellow inmate who had asked the question, for instance, nearly froze on the spot again. He only snapped out of it and hurried to keep up when the person beside him gave him a shove.
Fu Qian didn't doubt her claim.
Massive as the building was, it didn't completely block his perception of the distant surroundings.
Nothing was flowing outside.
More than that, the biting chill surging through the prison was seeping in directly from the darkness surrounding them.
Right now, this Undersea Dungeon really felt like it was encased in a giant block of ice.
Although the fellow inmate's emotional state was a bit unstable, the man wasn't slow.
After all, judging by what they had seen, the standards for imprisonment here were rather high.
Even the weakest of the trio—the burly man who had untied the inmate—seemed to barely scrape into the Mid Tier.
Unless their abilities were overly specialized, the physical enhancements that came with reaching the Mid Tier meant their bodies could easily withstand the water pressure.
But the situation had changed. Breaking through ice with raw physical strength was one thing, but this sudden freeze was far too bizarre.
Acting rashly without understanding the cause could invite unimaginable dangers.
[Current task updated: Find Virgo La Nina before the four Knights of the Apocalypse make their Descent.]
As he pondered their current predicament, Fu Qian followed the group to the fork in the path they had spotted earlier.
Just before they squeezed through a narrow fissure in the ice, a new prompt unexpectedly echoed in his mind.
The task update had arrived in a timely manner for once, but the contents...
...
Knights of the Apocalypse?
Once all four gather, will the task instantly fail if I haven't found the target?
Why did this failure condition feel so bizarre?
Fu Qian silently grumbled.
At the very least, the target he needed to find was quite clear.
La Nina. It had even provided a specific name.
Beyond that, the name of the Containment Object this time was "Virgo."
"The rendezvous point is just ahead."
The sheer will to survive was a powerful motivator. As he mused, the group, led by the black-haired woman, squeezed through the fissure one by one and emerged into a new corridor.
It was much more spacious than the areas they had previously traversed, but the chill here was even more biting, the surfaces completely coated in frost.
Although it still didn't affect Fu Qian in the slightest, he noticed from the corner of his eye that the fellow inmate was clearly no longer suffering from the heat.
The black-haired woman and her companion looked utterly bloodless and pale.
It wasn't that they were less resistant to the cold. Being infected himself, Fu Qian had already discovered that the extreme chill didn't suppress the Crimson Frenzy; it actually made it more active.
Their conditions had already been far worse to begin with, and now their bodies were visibly entering a state of withered decay.
Aside from that, his guesses about this place's origins seemed to be proving true.
The intricate decorations were far more prominent in this wider corridor, proving that this facility hadn't originally been built as a prison.
Of course, along one side of the corridor, the subsequently retrofitted holding cells were still visible.
The traces outside indicated that more than one of them had been opened and entered, though all the doors were currently sealed shut.
"It's a pity they couldn't hold on."
Walking at the front, the black-haired woman evidently noticed Fu Qian observing the cells and offered a casual explanation.
"We tried opening every occupied room, but some of them had already lost their minds and couldn't be reasoned with... Others could hardly even be described as alive anymore. We had no choice but to lock the doors again to prevent them from complicating our plans.
"Out of all the ones we checked in this sector, you two are remarkably lucky—"
Boom!
As if to prove her words, a massive crash rang out. One of the cell doors further down the corridor was being violently battered from the inside.
"So that's how it is."
Looking over with the rest of the group to watch the shattered ice tumbling from the door, Fu Qian casually agreed.
Given their desperate circumstances, her explanation was fairly honest.
To him, what lay behind that door wasn't much of a mystery.
Especially since he had personally killed one of those aberrations known as a Scarlet Angel.
As they walked past, he could clearly sense something similar gestating inside.
So, for this survival squad, an entirely different crisis was rapidly approaching to join the curse and the bitter cold.
Judging by the violent battering against the door, the creature was extremely aggressive—and immensely strong.
Under the increasingly frantic impacts, the heavy cell door physically buckled, denting outward.
While the gap was far too small for a normal person to squeeze through, an abnormal one was a different story.
In the next moment, thin strands of shockingly vivid scarlet bloodlines began to squeeze through the narrow gap. Faintly, pieces of flesh and bone could be seen sloughing off like dry bark as the creature forced its way out.
In the blink of an eye, a true metamorphosis was complete. The grotesque mass that slipped free struggled to contort itself into a vaguely humanoid silhouette—Boom!
Just as it attempted to stretch out a second leg, a scorching blast of flames erupted beneath it.
The violent concussive force, coupled with terrifying heat, slammed squarely into the Scarlet Angel.
The creature was sent flying, smashing heavily against the door. A chunk of its body was blown completely apart, incinerated into ash on the spot.
But sterilization by fire wasn't absolute. As the monster twitched violently, a brilliantly scarlet, intangible mist rapidly diffused into the freezing air.
Team Leader Tan hadn't been exaggerating; the contagiousness of this thing was absurd. Eating it back then had definitely been the right move.
Of course, there didn't seem to be any need for that right now.
Boom!
Just as the Scarlet Angel's spasms slowed and its body began to knit back together, another massive burst of flames detonated, swallowing it whole once more.
Unlike the first blast, this strike left a clear trajectory through the air. It had come from further down the corridor they were heading toward.
"White?"
At that same moment, the black-haired woman at the front called out, a hint of disapproval in her voice.
"Do you have a better idea?"
Stepping out from behind an ice pillar was the man she had named—a middle-aged man with short hair and a long face.
Despite having just unleashed back-to-back torrents of fire, his voice remained completely even as he shot back.
Judging by the results, his strength certainly justified his calm demeanor. The Scarlet Angel had been entirely incinerated without a trace.
But that wasn't the focal point. At a glance, it was obvious that this man was the only person present not wearing a prison uniform.
