Chapter 219: Insect of Corrosion (8)

In the dim office, Liu Yi stared dumbfounded at Fu Qian's face.

She simply couldn't reconcile that face with that hideous arm.

But the living proof was right in front of her; she had no choice but to believe it.

In all fairness, compared to the monster from earlier, Fu Qian's overall appearance was much more normal.

However, the real terror often lay in the contrast.

When you expected a monster, even the most grotesque appearance wouldn't be unacceptably terrifying.

But when someone you considered entirely human suddenly extended a monstrous claw, the shock was indescribable.

Staring fixedly at Fu Qian, Liu Yi was already backing away on instinct.

Fu Qian paid her reaction no mind, continuing to write and draw on the desk.

"You—"

With her hand already on the doorknob, Liu Yi didn't immediately turn it.

She suddenly realized the outside was equally perilous. She was caught in a dilemma.

"What's wrong?"

Fu Qian looked up at her.

"How are you feeling right now?"

"I'm fine."

Surprised that Fu Qian would show concern, Liu Yi answered without thinking.

"Just a little hungry."

"Hungry?"

"Yeah."

Liu Yi nodded.

"Probably because we've been running so much. It burns a lot of energy."

Was that so?

Her answer left Fu Qian deep in thought.

Unlike himself, Liu Yi, Liang Yuntian, and even Six-Legged Brother before he lost his head, were still controlled by their host consciousness.

But that didn't mean their behavior wouldn't be subtly influenced.

Liu Yi's hunger might not be a purely physiological reaction.

"When you two went to the Campus Hospital earlier, did Liang Yuntian go into the duty room?"

"Yes."

Clearly unsure why Fu Qian was asking, Liu Yi simply nodded.

"Even though the monster inside was calling us in, Liang Yuntian made me wait outside because of your warning."

So Liang Yuntian was injured in the duty room.

Fu Qian thought silently.

Given the monster's speed and strength, if Liang Yuntian was ambushed in such a narrow space, his injuries were a bit too light—even if he had been on guard.

His situation was highly unusual.

Revealing his mutated arm earlier hadn't been a whim.

It had been both a deterrent and a test.

He had done it because, upon noticing Liang Yuntian's abnormalities, he saw the student harboring murderous intent.

Seeing the mutation on his arm, Liu Yi reacted exactly as a normal person would.

Liang Yuntian, on the other hand, had been surprised but hadn't treated it as incomprehensible. Instead, he had immediately suggested going downstairs to check.

Granted, that could just mean he was scared and looking for an excuse to run away.

But there was another possibility: Liang Yuntian had originally intended to kill him and Liu Yi right there, but Fu Qian's mutation made him uncertain of victory, prompting him to back down.

As for why he would do that, Fu Qian guessed he might be just like Liu Yi—he was hungry.

The parasitic infection gave them the urge to slaughter and devour one another.

If that were true, Liang Yuntian's real motive for running downstairs was practically confirmed—uncertain if he could handle Fu Qian, he had gone to eat something else.

In fact, calculating the time, he should have already reached Brother Six-Legs by now.

If Brother Six-Legs was truly dead, the guy might be feasting at this very moment.

As for what Liang Yuntian would do after his meal, that was hard to say.

"Now that you mention it, I'm actually a bit hungry myself."

With that thought, Fu Qian spouted nonsense while observing Liu Yi.

The circular spots on her skin had become increasingly prominent, even appearing to ooze a viscous fluid. It inevitably brought to mind the bizarre snail from the book.

And right now, Fu Qian's gaze and words were incredibly easy to misinterpret.

Liu Yi's smile grew even more strained. With her hand behind her back, she silently turned the doorknob.

"I... I'll go out and take a look, too."

The next moment, she yanked the heavy security door open.

Crash!

But just as she was about to bolt out, a strange noise echoed from downstairs.

Liu Yi froze instantly.

It was the sound of shattering glass.

Liang Yuntian had mentioned earlier that he would close the glass door.

Did that monster get in? Was Liang Yuntian killed by it?

She needed to hide quickly, but there was a monster in here, too.

What should she do?

Thoughts racing wildly through her mind, Liu Yi suddenly felt she couldn't breathe, overwhelmed by unprecedented despair.

...

"Ah!"

Screaming, Liu Yi ultimately bolted out the door.

She shouldn't be stupid enough to run downstairs.

Fu Qian casually walked to the doorway and took a look.

If his earlier guess was correct, the one breaking the door was very likely Liang Yuntian.

And that guy knew about this hiding spot.

If Liu Yi hid somewhere else, her chances of survival should increase by a few percentage points.

As for himself.

Fu Qian grabbed the doorknob. With a crack, he snapped it clean off.

After further integrating with this body, he now possessed a certain level of Combat Power.

Rather than hiding everywhere based on a few theories and waiting for this Long Night to pass, Fu Qian preferred to meet the fellow coming up the stairs and verify his hypothesis.

So, Fu Qian retreated into the room, grabbed a chair, and sat down.

Less than a minute later, he heard footsteps outside.

The next moment, the door was pushed open, and Liang Yuntian's face appeared.

Strikingly, his body had undergone obvious changes.

Liang Yuntian had originally been burly, but now he could only be described as massive.

His bones seemed to have grown strangely, widening his upper body to an incredible degree and tearing his T-shirt into shredded strips.

At the same time, his legs had elongated bizarrely, even bending at sharp angles at the knees.

"You don't seem surprised at all?"

Smiling, Liang Yuntian squeezed into the room sideways.

"What's there to be surprised about?"

Fu Qian exhaled.

"How are you feeling?"

"Fantastic, better than ever!"

"Did it taste good?"

"Haha, you really are the same!"

Liang Yuntian laughed loudly.

"Though I don't understand why you didn't tag along, it tasted absolutely amazing!"

He pointed out the window.

"Tonight, we are undoubtedly the chosen ones, extraordinary beings."

"And devouring our own kind allows this distinction to achieve Sublimation."

Liang Yuntian unabashedly licked his lips, his face full of intoxication.

"And of course, the taste is exquisite."

"Even better than what you ate before?"

...

Liang Yuntian fell into a rare half-minute silence.

"How did you know?"
