The bus was already veering off the road. When the driver lost control, the suddenly severed front half of the vehicle tore ahead in a shower of sparks and lightning, carrying the driver and the couple headlong into the nearby Plaza.
Amid a chorus of screams, momentum sent the passengers in the rear half of the bus spilling out like dumplings tumbling into a boiling pot.
Fu Qian, the mastermind behind the crash, ignored the tragic scene around him. His gaze remained locked on the receding front half of the bus.
A moment later, a massive bolt of lightning slammed down from the sky. It struck precisely where the driver and the couple sat, instantly blasting the front of the vehicle into a roaring fireball.
The screaming came to an abrupt halt. The battered, bleeding passengers all froze in shock.
Following the lightning strike, the driver and the couple inside were completely swallowed by the flames.
None of them could understand why lightning would strike in such weather. However, if the bus hadn't snapped in half earlier, the entire vehicle would undoubtedly have become a fireball just now.
In comparison, merely walking away with battered and bloody heads was nothing.
A wave of complicated emotions washed over the surviving passengers.
Only then did Fu Qian climb out of his seat and quietly slip away from the scene.
He hadn't snapped the bus in half with a stomp because he foresaw the lightning strike.
The couple's behavior had simply been too abnormal, and the driver's actions had been equally bizarre. He had felt certain their actions would trigger something.
Even so, summoning a bolt of lightning out of thin air was still a breathtaking sight.
The sheer power wasn't bad either; its destructive force rivaled a strike from the Demigod Ibu.
He was almost certain this was no natural accident, but the result of Transcendent power.
They were clearly three ordinary people, yet they had managed to trigger such an anomaly. This place was far from peaceful!
With so many witnesses around, he wondered how the news would report the accident.
"Shocking: Midnight Bus Struck by Lightning and Catches Fire," or "Moving Bus Suddenly Snaps in Half: The Hidden Reason Will Warm Your Heart"?
Amused by the thought, Fu Qian continued along the route he had memorized.
According to the map, his destination wasn't far from here.
...
This should be the place.
Fu Qian looked up at the building before him.
After leaving the bus, the rest of the trip had been completely unimpeded. He hadn't encountered any more obstacles.
According to the address, his target was inside this building.
It was nearing midnight. Fu Qian didn't waste any time and walked straight in.
Surprisingly, there actually was a single room with its lights on inside the building.
The room was extremely well hidden; looking from the outside, it was hard to imagine such a place existed.
Standing outside, Fu Qian could clearly sense over twenty people scattered inside, bustling about as if they were hard at work.
Adapting to local customs, Fu Qian straightened his clothes to maintain a professional demeanor and rang the doorbell.
A moment later, through the transparent glass door, a woman sitting at the reception desk raised her head and glanced his way.
She didn't respond after that glance, however. Instead, she lowered her head and went back to whatever she was doing.
There really was something bizarre going on!
Despite catching only a brief glimpse, Fu Qian noticed something abnormal about the woman's face.
Her expression was blank and her gaze glassy. She looked like a sleepwalker—this went far beyond simply spacing out at work.
After a moment's thought, Fu Qian rang the doorbell again.
Her reaction this time was even more amusing. The receptionist simply turned a desk ornament around, revealing the words: No Soliciting.
Professional, Fu Qian praised inwardly.
The compliment was for both the receptionist and himself. While her response was highly professional, it also proved that his guise was flawless; he truly looked like a door-to-door credit card salesman.
Deciding not to be a nuisance, Fu Qian silently crushed the door lock and pushed his way inside.
As expected, the receptionist merely shot him a vacant glance in response to the violent break-in. She didn't react any further.
Standing inside the office, Fu Qian surveyed the room.
The lights were bright, and the group of people were dressed in professional business attire. Everyone sat at their desks, busily focused on their tasks as if they were continuing their daytime shift.
Just like the receptionist, they turned a completely blind eye to the intruder who had just walked in.
For a moment, Fu Qian felt as if he had trespassed into another world entirely. The last time he had felt this way was at the banquet in Baerluk.
"Who are you? Get out immediately! Don't disturb our work."
Almost immediately, a middle-aged man in his forties walked out of the inner office, glaring sternly at Fu Qian.
Looks like you're the one.
Fu Qian nodded.
Compared to the others, this man was clearly the one in charge. His expression was much livelier, and his somewhat plump face was currently twisted with shock and anger.
"What a coincidence. I'm here for work too."
Smiling, Fu Qian pulled out the medical file and tossed it onto a desk.
"Please sign for it."
...
"I don't recall expecting any files."
The middle-aged man didn't take the medical file. Instead, he stared at Fu Qian as if looking at a scammer.
Just as I thought. Does he have to accept it for the task to be completed?
Fu Qian wasn't surprised when he didn't receive a mission completion notification.
"Get out immediately, or I'll—"
Seeing Fu Qian remain completely still, the middle-aged man's gaze grew increasingly wary.
"Or you'll what?"
Fu Qian looked around the room. Despite the confrontation, everyone was still dutifully working away at their desks. Not a single person had looked up to watch the commotion.
This work ethic is downright inhumane!
Amidst his musings, a sudden mental disturbance rippled through his consciousness.
The impact was even stronger than Rachel's. If an ordinary person took a hit like that, it would probably turn them straight into a vegetable.
Fu Qian offered a silent critique as he turned back to look at the middle-aged man.
He had seen it clearly: the man had crushed a thin wafer in his direction just a second ago.
It was obvious that despite being an ordinary human, the man was indeed responsible for the mental attack.
Had he done the exact same thing to turn everyone else in the room into mindless drones?
The middle-aged man stared at Fu Qian in utter shock. Realizing his target was completely unaffected, he turned and made a mad dash for the exit.
You offended this Daoist and still think you can walk away?
Fu Qian scoffed. Without taking a single step, his right arm suddenly elongated.
The middle-aged man had barely gotten one foot out the door before a hand locked around his throat, hoisting him cleanly into the air.
"After our little exchange, I think we understand each other much better now."
Smiling brightly, Fu Qian held out the medical file once more.
"Now then, will you sign for it?"
"But..."
Staring blankly at the monstrous claw clamped around his throat, the middle-aged man trembled violently, completely forgetting to struggle.
"But we really aren't Xinji Freight Company. We don't even have a name..."
Are you fucking kidding me?
Fu Qian glanced at the wall clock. He only had a few minutes left.
Yet according to this guy, even the company name didn't match.
This sounded a little troublesome.
"It doesn't matter. You're Xinji Freight Company now."
Fu Qian pondered for a moment, and his grip tightened a fraction.
"Got it?"
