Chapter 383: Prosthetic Eye (16)

The wisdom of deities—the tiny fraction that could be spied upon amidst a deluge of information.

Was this the essence of rituals?

Listening to Teresa's explanation, Fu Qian gave a slight nod.

He had to admit, it was fairly close to his own hypothesis. This phenomenon stemmed from the influence of certain High-Tier Existences.

By performing specific actions, a person could receive gifts of supernatural power.

In that case, was the advancement ritual for the Demigod Realm based on a similar concept?

He suspected there was a difference. It couldn't be quite that simple.

As he pondered, the ambient temperature plummeted.

Looking up, Fu Qian found his surroundings shrouded in white once more. The world had become a boundless, pale expanse.

"Alright, you have the answer you wanted."

"Let's begin. I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this process..."

She let out a string of eerie laughter as white frost surged around her.

It was obvious this woman had quite the sadistic streak.

"Don't be in such a rush. I have one more question."

Facing the imminent clash, Fu Qian waved a hand, signaling for her to calm down.

"You used the phrase 'spied upon' earlier. I'm very curious—for people like you who understand the essence of all this, how exactly is this spying achieved?"

...

Fu Qian's second question plunged Teresa into silence. She seemed to find it difficult to answer.

After a long while, she looked up and spoke coldly.

"Revelations are uncontrollable—"

"That contradicts your earlier statement."

Fu Qian instantly shot down her claim.

"According to what you just said, the ritual knowledge possessed by clueless people like Shang Shiming was clearly implanted by you. How is that uncontrollable?"

"Why are you so curious about this?"

Rebutted, Teresa narrowed her eyes, her gaze drifting over his face.

"Because I have a small theory I'd like to verify."

Fu Qian replied with almost no hesitation.

"Does this spying rely on the Inner Eye?"

...

Although she didn't utter a word, the moment the phrase 'Inner Eye' left his lips, Teresa's breathing noticeably hitched.

"It seems my theory is correct."

Fu Qian nodded with a smile.

Coming to this gathering hadn't been a waste of time after all. This group clearly knew something about the Inner Eye.

"How could you know about the Inner Eye..."

It took a moment for Teresa to recover her wits. She stared fixedly at Fu Qian, her expression so dark it could practically drip water.

Then, before Fu Qian could answer, she startled in alarm.

"There's something wrong with you!"

She pointed a finger at him.

"You didn't just advance to the Transcendent Tier. Roald, that idiot! Who are you?"

"Does it matter who I am?"

Fu Qian spread his hands.

"I'm about to die by your hand anyway, so what does it matter?"

"Heh... well said!"

Teresa's hands fluttered. Within the white frost, countless Spikes instantly condensed, rapidly weaving together to form a Crystal Serpent.

"Now I definitely can't let you leave!"

"Don't be so hasty. You still haven't told me what the Inner Eye actually is."

"Guess!"

Fu Qian's tone remained unbothered. Teresa, however, looked entirely done talking. Smiling cruelly, she thrust the serpent forward.

Bristling with incomparably sharp crystalline Spikes, the massive serpent surged toward Fu Qian, blotting out his vision.

Just as he was about to be torn to shreds, Fu Qian's body twisted, narrowly dodging the incoming strike.

"I knew there was something wrong with you!"

Realizing Fu Qian wasn't so simple, Teresa hadn't actually expected a single strike to finish him off.

With a wave of her hand, the missed serpent wheeled around and struck again. At the same time, two more serpents took shape on either side of her.

"Are you really not going to reconsider?"

Facing such a perilous situation, Fu Qian didn't retreat. Instead, he stepped right up to Teresa with a serious expression.

"If you're willing to treat this as an academic discussion, I think it would be a happy outcome for everyone."

"Don't worry. After you die, I'll have a very thorough discussion with your corpse."

Teresa's laughter dripped with cruelty. The two serpents beside her shot forward simultaneously, joining the returning one to coil around and shred Fu Qian.

"Just as I thought. This is an era that hates sharing. One still has to explore knowledge for oneself."

At this, Fu Qian shook his head in disappointment. He casually swatted away the three coiling Crystal Serpents, shattering them to pieces.

"You—"

For a split second, Teresa's expression could only be described as spectacular. She simply couldn't believe what she was seeing.

Even she could never handle that attack so effortlessly!

This guy has been playing dumb the whole time! His actual strength is terrifying!

The moment that thought surfaced, an intense sense of crisis erupted in her heart.

Teresa's hands danced rapidly. Clusters of frost Spikes condensed in the air, shooting toward Fu Qian from all directions.

And right after launching this barrage, she didn't even check the result. She turned and fled.

Teresa's reaction was nothing if not decisive. Unfortunately, the very next moment, an arm pierced through the snow and wind, suddenly elongating several times its normal length to seize her by the throat.

Urgh—

Yanked violently backward, Teresa let out a despairing gasp.

The hand clamped around her throat possessed freakish strength. Now, less than an arm's length separated the two.

Teresa didn't struggle fruitlessly. Instead, she used the momentum to turn around and face Fu Qian.

A moment later, one of the emeralds on her necklace silently shattered, rapidly condensing into a sickly green fireball that shot straight at Fu Qian's face.

At the exact same time, her body melted like asphalt, slipping right out of his grip.

She really has gained quite a few benefits from rituals. This combo of distraction and escape is silky smooth.

Fu Qian evaluated her with an appreciative expression.

Attacked so suddenly and at such close range, he had almost no room to dodge and was forced to take it head-on.

And if he was delayed for even a fraction of a second, Teresa would have a chance to escape.

It was a pity. The very next second, that glob of clearly corrosive magma simply vanished without a sound.

In that same breath, Fu Qian didn't delay for a millisecond. He brought his foot down heavily on the ground where Teresa was melting.

Boom!

Amidst an earth-shattering roar, crushed stone flew everywhere. The surging blast of force completely dispersed the surrounding white frost.

Under the immense impact, Teresa's liquefied form convulsed like a ragged cloth, rapidly reverting to her original shape.

"No—"

Amidst her scream, a giant claw clamped around her throat once again.

Hoisting Teresa up to eye level, Fu Qian stared at the hat on her head, lost in thought.

Thanks to some past experiences, he was rather sensitive to hats nowadays.

With her escape ruined, a vicious gleam flashed in Teresa's eyes.

In an instant, her body twisted and bloated rapidly. An aura of chaotic depravity spread out, corrupting everything around it.

Crack!

At that exact moment, a crisp crack echoed, and Teresa's mutual-destruction maneuver came to an abrupt halt.

So that's how it is!

Weighing the skull in his hand, Fu Qian observed the obvious chip on it and nodded thoughtfully.
