Chapter 387: Prosthetic Eye (20)

"You are quite good."

After imparting the details of the ritual, Claudio expressed his heartfelt admiration for Li Min.

"To achieve so much at such a young age is no easy feat. It requires both talent and hard work."

"You flatter me. Most of it is thanks to the invaluable guidance my teacher gave me."

Li Min remained exceedingly modest, her words filled with reverence for her teacher.

"Is that so?"

Claudio didn't look particularly surprised.

"To have taught a student like you, your teacher must also be quite outstanding. I would truly love to meet him if the opportunity ever arises."

"My teacher was indeed incredible, but unfortunately, he has already passed away,"

...

"What a pity!"

Her words gave Claudio a moment's pause. After his brief lament, he said nothing more. Instead, he turned to Fu Qian and stared at him for a long time.

"Mister Cha, I heard about you earlier. At first, I didn't quite believe it, so I wanted to see you for myself."

"Seeing you now, it seems Rolden's description wasn't exaggerated at all. If anything, he was being conservative."

"You flatter me."

Claudio's phrasing was borderline bombastic, but faced with such high praise, Fu Qian simply gave a casual reply.

This rather impolite attitude left Rolden and the others staring in stunned silence.

Fu Qian paid them no mind.

Just as he could tell Claudio was far from simple, Fu Qian didn't believe for a second that the old gentleman had failed to notice the anomalies about him.

Besides, he hadn't exactly gone out of his way to hide them.

Judging from Rolden's reaction, Claudio was undoubtedly the core figure of their group.

The secret of the Inner Eye he needed to find was very likely tied to this man.

As such, Fu Qian was actually quite looking forward to Claudio's reaction.

Unfortunately, after doling out his praise, Claudio said nothing more and simply saw them out.

...

After taking their leave, the group—aside from Fu Qian—was lost in thought. A heavy silence settled over them for a time.

However, having previously received Li Min's favor, Shang Shiming was the first to break the quiet. He declared that if she needed any help during her ritual, she only had to ask.

Rolden followed suit, immediately stating he would do his best to assist.

Faced with such warmth, Li Min naturally thanked each of them in earnest. The next moment, her gaze turned to Fu Qian, her expression full of anticipation.

Sadly, Fu Qian merely met her eyes with an expressionless face, offering nothing more.

...

"Um... Mister Cha, do you have time to chat?"

The awkward silence dragged on for a good while before Li Min finally couldn't help but ask.

With so many helpers available, did she really insist on his help?

Fu Qian found himself somewhat curious about Li Min's persistence.

In fact, it wasn't just him. Beside her, Rachel was frowning deeply, completely unable to grasp why Li Min valued Fu Qian so highly.

Shang Shiming and Rolden, recalling Claudio's earlier words, couldn't help but shoot him a few extra glances.

Could it be another ritual that required brute force?

Given their previous experience, Shang Shiming's thoughts strayed even further.

"Alright."

This was already the second time Li Min had invited him to talk. As a polite individual, Fu Qian considered it for a moment and didn't refuse her again.

"We'll head back first, then."

Seeing that Li Min had things to discuss with Fu Qian, Shang Shiming and Rolden didn't linger, taking their leave.

Before leaving, Rolden specifically cautioned Li Min to prepare as thoroughly as possible before acting, urging her not to rush.

...

"The place we're staying isn't far from here. Should we just go there to talk?"

"Sure."

Faced with Li Min's suggestion, Fu Qian agreed, readily accepting good advice.

Li Min hadn't lied; it didn't take long for the three of them to reach their destination.

Compared to Rolden and the others, the place these two were staying was noticeably shabbier.

While it was still a rather upscale apartment, the floorspace was far too cramped.

Under Rachel's rather unfriendly gaze, Li Min invited Fu Qian inside.

"Mister Cha, please take a look at this."

Asking Fu Qian to sit and wait for a moment, Li Min quickly returned from her room with an item and placed it on the table.

It was a pale gray Glove, its design both exquisite and hideous. Most notably, many parts of it were formed from interlocking fangs.

"This is one of my teacher's relics. I don't have much use for it personally, but it seems quite suitable for you."

"If possible, I would like to offer it as compensation in exchange for your help."

Compensation?

Fu Qian picked up the Glove and fiddled with it. As he moved it, he could almost feel the flicker of electricity.

This thing was clearly a transcendent item, and its tier was by no means low.

"Isn't it a bit of a waste to use this to invite a newly advanced Transcendent for help?"

"Not at all."

Li Min shook her head firmly.

"Given our previous experiences, I certainly don't think Mister Cha relies solely on brute force."

"No matter what your motives are for choosing to hide your strength, Mister Cha, I sincerely wish to have your help. If possible, I would be incredibly grateful."

"Hiding his strength?"

Li Min's words left Rachel reeling in shock, and she stared at Fu Qian with a guarded expression.

"Yes. I can confirm with absolute certainty that Mister Cha is definitely not a newly advanced Transcendent."

Li Min shot her close friend a glance, her tone utterly certain.

"Confidence is a good thing, but saying that here... If you're wrong, it's fine, but if it's true, aren't you worried about the danger?"

Fu Qian looked at Li Min, revealing a textbook villainous smile.

"I am worried, but I need your help even more."

Li Min said, not dodging the issue.

"Everyone has their own secrets. It doesn't even matter if you were the one who killed Teresa."

"And please, don't worry. Whether we can cooperate or not, I swear on my life that Rachel and I will not leak any information about this. Furthermore—"

"If Mister Cha needs it, after my ritual is complete, I can make them reasonably suspect me, while still guaranteeing that I won't get caught."

What generous terms!

Ms. Li's meaning was very simple. In addition to offering the Glove as compensation, she was also willing to take the fall for him.

Her sole purpose in doing all this was to secure his help in completing her ritual.

She certainly sounded like a true pragmatist.

"Up to this point, it seems you still haven't mentioned what exactly you need my help with?"

Fu Qian asked after a moment of thought.

"I'm sorry, I can't say."

Unexpectedly, Li Min flatly shook her head.

"Due to the unique nature of the ritual, it must be kept a secret for now."

"But what I can promise is that if Mister Cha is willing to help, I will absolutely not put you in danger, nor will I make you bear the risk of being targeted by the Night Watchers."

Such overflowing sincerity!

Fu Qian pondered for a moment, then gave a smiling nod.

"Deal."
