Fu Qian had barely caught his breath before he noticed something was wrong.
So hot!
His body felt like a candle in an oven, on the verge of melting at any second.
No, he was already melting.
In just that brief moment, every cell in his body had grown restless, struggling to break free of its confines.
His muscles writhed uncontrollably. His body felt like it was falling apart.
Fu Qian looked up at the flowerbeds ahead. Inside the river of mercury formed by the petals, countless moons seemed to be flowing past.
Countless bright flares reflected onto him.
Was there something wrong with the moonlight?
Fu Qian quickly reached a conclusion.
By now, something was beginning to sprout from his arm.
A few twitching fleshy tendrils pushed through his skin, twisting and expanding rapidly.
Was he spawning an alien?
Fu Qian wasn't terrified by the sight; instead, he grabbed one of the tendrils and yanked it with all his might.
Agony flared as the fleshy tendril was forcefully ripped off.
But more tendrils quickly sprouted to take its place. In mere moments, his entire arm was completely deformed.
It was beyond saving!
Fu Qian decisively gave up on clearing them away. Focusing on the continuously growing tentacles, he discovered he could actually manipulate them slightly.
These things were burning through his life force at tremendous speed. It wouldn't be long before he turned into a twisted mass of rotting flesh.
He couldn't stay here!
Fu Qian quickly scanned his surroundings, but unfortunately, he didn't spot any exits. He immediately turned around and ran back.
Yet, even with his rapid reaction time, both of his legs completely melted and deformed before he could retreat back through the stone door, even beginning to fuse with the ground.
Struggling back into the small courtyard, he could no longer keep his balance and collapsed headfirst onto the ground.
This undoubtedly disturbed Brother Werewolf inside the door.
With a howl, a dark shadow pounced on him without hesitation.
[Containment Failure, survival time 25 minutes]
He had thought the werewolf wouldn't be interested in him once he turned into a slime. He hadn't expected the creature to be so completely unpicky about its food.
Back in the Warehouse, Fu Qian recalled the sight of the werewolf feasting on him, the crisp chewing noises still echoing in his ears.
The situation was looking grim!
There was clearly something bizarre about the flowers in the garden. More importantly, at that rate of mutation, he simply didn't have time to destroy them.
If he couldn't destroy them, he definitely couldn't stay in the garden. Even if he dragged out all his previous steps to the absolute limit, there was no way he could scrape together a full hour.
Dead ends at every turn!
How did the saying go? All dead ends stem from a lack of strength.
If he could just punt the old man with a single kick and beat the werewolf to death in two punches, he would have found a way out of those dead ends ages ago!
Still, Fu Qian refused to be discouraged. He patted his head, forcing himself to think outside the box.
Putting aside whether it was actually possible or not, if he had to choose one to kill, who would it be?
The old man's cunning and strength seemed unfathomable. The werewolf felt like a slightly better option; at least its intelligence seemed average.
So, the question was this:
What kind of martial arts could actually kill a monster that was a size larger than him, completely superior in strength and speed, and exceptionally quick on its feet?
Fu Qian silently removed his Work Badge and returned home from the Warehouse.
Quickly firing up his computer, Fu Qian thought for a moment before typing out a search query.
[How to beat an adult tiger in a bare-handed fight?]
He scrolled through the search results, reading them one by one.
"Human physiques cannot be generalized. Once, in a state of extreme anger, I..."
"Fighting a tiger one-on-one is actually very simple..."
"First, you need to be very strong... don't panic... never turn your back to it..."
"Stare into the tiger's eyes, and when it pounces at you, execute a sliding tackle..."
"...tackle it a few more times, and you'll feed the tiger until it dies from overeating."
Amid the pandemonium filling his screen, one specific piece of advice actually made his eyes light up.
A sliding tackle...
This idea... was kind of interesting!
[SAN Value -1, entering Containment Scenario]
For the eighth time, Fu Qian entered the Full Moon Garden.
The routine was the same: convince the doctor with reason, get out of bed, leave the room, and take cover.
Just as before, Fu Qian opened the garden door.
But this time, he didn't step through the doorway. Instead, he simply stuck both his hands outside.
The specks of light reflecting off the petals instantly illuminated his hands.
Before long, fleshy, tentacle-like shoots pushed their way out of his skin.
Perfect!
Fu Qian pulled his arms back and turned his head.
Under the moonlight, Brother Werewolf was already on his feet, staring straight at him in dead silence.
This damn oppressive presence!
Killing this guy was his only chance of completing the task.
Fu Qian stared at it coldly, without so much as blinking.
There was little hesitation. With a shrill howl, the werewolf leapt high into the moonlight, pouncing at him like a bolt of black lightning.
"Never turn your back to it... stare into its eyes..."
Fu Qian took a deep breath. Instead of retreating, he lunged forward.
Taking two steps toward the charging werewolf, he dropped flat to the ground and slid right beneath its belly.
Secret Technique—Forum Ultimate—Sliding Tackle!
Bypassing the beast's gaping maw and its ghastly white fangs, Fu Qian forcefully jammed one of his arms—already so swollen it was practically unrecognizable—straight down its throat.
Agony flared. The werewolf clamped its jaws shut almost immediately, and Fu Qian felt his arm nearly snap in half.
Just like that!
Fu Qian wrapped his other arm tightly around the werewolf's neck, anchoring himself in place.
Meanwhile, every single fleshy tendril on the arm trapped inside the beast's mouth began to grow wildly, responding directly to his will.
The tendrils rapidly extended down the werewolf's esophagus. Fu Qian commanded them to tear at everything they touched, deeply entangling themselves with the monster's internal organs.
"Quit acting so fucking tough!"
The next moment, using every ounce of his strength, Fu Qian grabbed hold of everything he could reach inside the creature and yanked outward.
A bloodcurdling howl erupted from the werewolf's throat.
Driven mad by the agony, the werewolf turned into a rabid dog, mindlessly thrashing and destroying everything around it.
Yet, anchored by his deformed arm, Fu Qian stayed glued to its chest and neck, perfectly wedged within the blind spot of its frantic claws.
Finally, when the entire courtyard had been reduced to near ruins, the werewolf collapsed completely.
Struggling out from under the werewolf's corpse, Fu Qian expressionlessly tore away the last remaining shreds of flesh connecting his left arm.
"A sliding tackle, and feed it to death."
That forum poster's advice really did work wonders.
With that passing thought, Fu Qian plopped down on the ground, gasping for air.
The sensation of his cells rebelling was slowly creeping upward from his arm.
Fortunately, it wasn't spreading too quickly. He should be able to hold out for an hour.
Unless he decided to make a move.
Fu Qian looked up to find that the old man from the house had somehow appeared in the courtyard.
The old man's sickle had been put away. He was staring at Fu Qian with a bizarre expression.
After a long pause, the old man nodded.
"Very impressive!"
"Your fighting style leaves quite an impression!"
"Against a monster like that, what compelled you to fight back, let alone kill it?"
As long as he was just here to talk nonsense, it was fine.
Watching the time tick steadily closer to the one-hour mark, Fu Qian finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"You really don't get it, do you..."
"To a real gamer, as long as it has a Health Bar, we'd kill God Himself."
