Things were getting more and more bizarre!
So according to the medical file, the problem wasn't with the world, but with me?
As Fu Qian realized this, the scene before him shifted once more.
Following a falling piece of the ceiling, the dark, dilapidated building rapidly began to collapse, as if torn apart by an invisible force.
At a certain moment, Fu Qian seemed to see the sun. Intense light flooded his vision.
...
When his sight returned, Fu Qian found that the hospital building was gone, and he was in a strange, unfamiliar place.
That blinding ball of light wasn't the sun, either, but a lamp embedded in the opposite wall.
"You're awake?"
Why did that phrase feel seemingly familiar?
Fu Qian mused to himself. The next moment, the lamp ahead dimmed, and he got a clear look at his surroundings.
He was in a fairly spacious room. It was completely empty and windowless, with only a pale light casting down from the ceiling and walls, making the overall atmosphere incredibly oppressive.
Right in front of him sat a stainless steel table. At the other end of it, a burly, broad-shouldered man was staring coldly at him.
But he wasn't the one who had spoken.
That voice just now was very familiar. He had heard it before.
Fu Qian turned his head slightly. A highly capable-looking woman with short hair stood just behind and to the side of the burly man, also staring at him with bright, piercing eyes.
And Fu Qian had seen this face not long ago—Kelly Landa.
The female police officer who wore the same Work Badge as he did.
It seemed she had assumed another identity!
Fu Qian pondered for a moment. He didn't rush to speak, letting his gaze fall back to the tabletop.
Not far in front of him lay an open medical file, flanked by several printed documents.
What a classic scene!
Fu Qian shook his head inwardly. With just one glance, he confirmed that the documents on the table were the exact medical file he had just been reading.
"Can you hear me?"
The woman who looked like Kelly spoke again, her voice soft.
"I can."
Fu Qian nodded, not bothering to play dumb.
"Did you remember anything this time?"
"Depends on how you define 'remember.'"
Fu Qian glanced at her.
"To be honest, I don't have much more in my head, but judging by this scene, it seems I'm a psychiatric patient?"
"Good. Correct self-awareness is always the most important step."
Hearing his response, the short-haired woman genuinely looked a bit encouraged.
"But from your tone, it seems you've forgotten some things?"
"Yeah."
Fu Qian nodded with complete honesty.
"So you might as well tell me again."
"You—"
The next moment, the woman stopped the burly man, whose eyes had suddenly turned sharp.
After staring at Fu Qian for several seconds, she nodded.
"First of all, you're right. You are indeed a psychiatric patient."
As she spoke, she pushed the scattered medical file closer, allowing Fu Qian to see it more clearly.
"I am Doctor Kelly Landa, your current Attending Physician. As for this gentleman..."
Kelly pointed at the seated burly man.
"This is Officer Brooke."
"A pleasure!"
Fu Qian greeted casually, ignoring the fierce glare in Crook's eyes.
"Anyway, not long ago, a severe incident occurred where you were—in Fenghou City."
"How severe?"
Fu Qian asked directly.
"What do you think?"
Before Doctor Kelly could speak, Crook seemed unable to hold back any longer. He slammed a hand heavily onto the table.
"Crook—"
Kelly shot him a stern look before turning back to Fu Qian.
"Strictly speaking, Fenghou City no longer exists."
Was it really that severe?
Fu Qian muttered to himself, then gestured for Kelly to continue.
"In short, during the rescue operations sometime after the incident, we found you."
"At first, we didn't suspect you, until we discovered some strange details in your medical records."
"According to the records, it seemed you had prior knowledge of the incident."
"Unfortunately, your mental state was highly unstable. You were in a delirious state most of the time. We tried many methods, but couldn't achieve much effective communication."
"And during your rare moments of lucidity, you insisted you had done nothing and had forgotten everything from that time."
"No matter how we tried to guide you, you claimed you only heard a baby crying. That's why we set this up here."
Stepping back, Kelly switched on a nearby recording device.
The sound of a crying infant drifted out.
Unfortunately, perhaps influenced by the setting, the sound was not remotely endearing—it was downright eerie and ghostly.
"Facts have proven that this really does calm you down and put you into a special state."
"Got it. I was in that state just now, right? And I woke up when it ended?"
"Yes."
Kelly confirmed Fu Qian's assumption.
"Based on past experience, it helps you recall some information and stabilizes your mental state. For example, you can at least communicate relatively normally now."
"And if you want to regain your freedom, tell us what we want to know. Alternatively, you can prove your innocence."
What they wanted to know, huh.
Fu Qian looked down, confirming that all four of his limbs were firmly strapped to the iron chair beneath him.
This treatment was nothing short of grand.
"So what exactly do you want to know?"
Bang!
This time, Crook stood straight up. If the chair hadn't been welded to the floor, he probably would have kicked it over.
"You forgot even that?"
Even Doctor Kelly looked a bit surprised.
"No impression whatsoever."
"He's just messing with us!"
Crook roared, entirely unable to restrain himself.
"I will be the judge of that."
Kelly shot him a look, her tone firm.
"What we need you to tell us is: how did you spread the virus?"
He figured it would be this.
Fu Qian wasn't surprised by Kelly's words in the slightest.
"Are you that certain it was me?"
"Yes, we are absolutely certain, and our evidence goes beyond just your medical records."
"With such a severe incident, why aren't the Night Watchers handling it?"
Fu Qian, however, thought of another question.
"Because they have no reason to."
Kelly answered quickly.
"There are no traces of supernatural power in this incident."
"Including on you."
"That is true."
Fu Qian sighed.
He had already confirmed it at the very first moment. Even after "waking up," his current state was still just that of an ordinary person.
"So what exactly did you gain this time?"
