Chapter 43: They Realized the Gravity of the Problem

"Feng Yunhong!"

Li Weixuan's expression turned grave.

"That's right. I believe you should have heard this name before."

The old man let out a weary sigh, his expression suggesting that worldly fame was barely worth a mention.

"All empty fame is but fleeting clouds passing before one's eyes."

"Sorry, never heard of you."

Li Weixuan shook his head.

He wasn't the only one; everyone else made the exact same gesture.

What?

"Furthermore, I am absolutely certain that the fourth principal of the Academy didn't have that name."

"Bullshit! You probably weren't even born when I was the principal. What do you know?"

Anger flared in Feng Yunhong's eyes.

"True enough. As seas change into mulberry fields, it's normal not to know what happened decades ago."

Li Weixuan's tone was entirely flat.

"But on this one point, I am very sure, because the fourth principal was my grandfather."

...

"I am completely certain his surname is Li, and he should be vacationing in the Southern Hemisphere right now."

...

The look Li Weixuan gave Feng Yunhong made his thoughts perfectly clear: the old man needed to get his head checked. He had been in here so long he had forgotten his own name.

"Li? Your grandfather is Li He?"

Feng Yunhong stared blankly for a long moment before suddenly questioning Li Weixuan.

"How did you kn—"

Li Weixuan stopped mid-sentence and froze. He subconsciously turned to look back at Fu Qian.

He wasn't the only one; all the students moved in unison, their gazes snapping to Fu Qian where he stood in the distance.

Finally realized the gravity of the problem?

Fu Qian nodded at the group and pointed at Feng Yunhong.

"Here, a prime example."

See that? That was what you called genius intuition.

Although he hadn't had much information to go on during his initial deductions, the facts now proved that the most terrifying nightmare had come true.

"What's wrong with all of you?"

Feng Yunhong noticed their strange reactions.

"Old Man... Feng."

Li Weixuan swallowed hard.

"You know my grandfather?"

"Of course. When I was the principal, he was always my deputy. That kid had excellent talent, but his greatest strength was his steady temperament. He had great potential."

Feng Yunhong stroked his beard, recalling the past.

"But to say he was the fourth principal is sheer nonsense. He was still wet behind the ears back then. How could he possibly be made the principal!"

...

Li Weixuan took a deep breath and glanced back.

This mental blow was utterly devastating. Confusion filled all the students' eyes as the light of hope vanished.

It was actually exactly as that guy had said!

Once they entered this place, all records of them in the outside world were completely erased. No one would even remember them.

Reinforcements really weren't coming!

Only Fu Qian stood there, still sizing up Feng Yunhong with great interest.

"Old Man Feng, the truth as I know it might be different from what you think."

Li Weixuan swallowed and carefully weighed his words.

"My grandfather really is the fourth principal of the Academy, but before him, the position was vacant for quite a long time. As for your name, I'm sorry, but no information about it has survived."

Seeing Feng Yunhong's expression crumble once again, Li Weixuan beckoned to Fu Qian as he continued to explain.

"We've deduced a possible reason as to why this happened. I'll let my student explain the details to you."

After calling Fu Qian over, Li Weixuan quickly retreated to the side to adjust his own mental state.

Fu Qian strolled casually forward, greeted the senior, and reiterated his deductions regarding the nature of these ruins.

When he finished, Old Man Feng wasn't the only one left utterly stunned. The team members, forced to listen to it all over again, looked even more devastated, their faces pale and ashen.

What kind of cursed place was this!

"Old Man Feng, if you don't mind, could I ask a few questions?"

After giving Feng Yunhong half a minute to process the information, Fu Qian spoke up again.

"Ask away."

Feng Yunhong replied in a heavy tone. His previous radiant vigor was gone.

"According to what you said, you've been trapped in here for a very long time?"

"Yes. That was many years ago."

Feng Yunhong looked up, a bewildered look in his eyes.

"Over the years, I've had fewer and fewer moments of clarity, making it hard to estimate the exact time. But since Li He's grandson is already this old, it's likely been nearly a century."

"At first, I didn't understand why no one ever came looking for me after I had been missing for so long. To think there was such a bizarre twist behind it all."

"Then when you first came in, you must have already been quite strong, right?"

"Why do you ask?"

Feng Yunhong frowned and cast a glance at Fu Qian.

"I was merely Tier 5 back then, though after so many years, I suppose I've made some progress."

"I can tell."

Fu Qian nodded.

"During this period, did anyone else wander in by mistake?"

"Too many. You saw those monsters outside, didn't you?"

"Were any of them as formidable as you?"

...

What exactly was this guy trying to do?

The surrounding group stared at Fu Qian in utter confusion.

Rambling on and asking a bunch of useless questions—was he hoping the man would take him as a disciple or something?

Setting aside the issue of seniority, they were all trapped here anyway. If they couldn't get out, what use would that be?

"As for experts, there were indeed a few."

Feng Yunhong pondered for a moment.

"But none of them managed to hold on. They were devoured by this place."

"Understood. Thank you for clearing that up."

Fu Qian thanked him with a grin.

The next second, he took a step back. Using the motion of turning around as cover, he pulled something out and whipped it straight at Feng Yunhong.

"Are you crazy?"

The old man's voice rang out, laced with shock and fury. At such close range, by the time Feng Yunhong noticed it, dodging was nearly impossible. The object struck him dead on.

It wasn't just him; everyone, including Li Weixuan, was stunned, completely failing to grasp what Fu Qian was doing.

They had a clear look at it now. The thing Fu Qian had thrown was actually a severed, bloody finger.

Was it his own finger? Did he rip off his own digit to use as a hidden weapon?

There really was something wrong with this guy's head!

Yet in the next moment, everyone froze in place.

Upon hitting Feng Yunhong, the finger didn't bounce to the ground. Instead, it plunged straight into his body.

Was he that fragile?

Feng Yunhong looked down at the finger embedded in him, his expression turning exceedingly bizarre.

A second later, the half of the finger that was still exposed melted down like a candle, merging right into Feng Yunhong's body without leaving a single trace.

At the exact same time, a twisted, inhuman grin spread across Feng Yunhong's face!

There really was something wrong with this guy!

Pinching the wound where his severed finger used to be, Fu Qian felt deeply that this injury had been well worth it.

The very next moment, Fu Qian threw both hands in the air and shouted a famous quote that was deeply etched in his memory.

"Run for your lives, you silly kids!"

What? Most of the group was still paralyzed by the horrifying scene that had just played out, completely failing to grasp what Fu Qian meant.

"Where do you think you're going!"

Feng Yunhong's chilling voice echoed out.

Amidst a series of muffled, explosive pops, his massive body detonated into a storm of blood and flesh.

An indescribable, frenzied power instantly swept through the surroundings.
