Chapter 460: Wasteland Arc (22)

The atmosphere had certainly livened up!

Fu Qian watched the two demigods in front of him with great interest.

Sybil was undoubtedly in her irritable state, and Kelsen's response was equally blunt, a far cry from his earlier demeanor.

There was only one explanation for this: just like Sybil, he had also switched into that irritable state.

This was undoubtedly a tricky situation.

Considering their typical Saints' demeanor when not in that irritable state, as long as at least one of the two demigods was normal, a conflict would be nearly impossible.

However, with both of them at each other's throats, it was hard to predict how things would unfold.

Fortunately, Fu Qian was just a special guest. Even if these two beat each other's brains out, it wouldn't really affect him.

"You want to know?"

"We aren't outside anymore. I am in charge of this expedition, and you have no right to dictate what I do."

"Think about what you've actually done since you arrived. You bombed the area without turning up a single result, and you nearly injured your own people. Put away your arrogance. No one is going to clean up your messes every day!"

Her words were the truth, if a bit harsh.

Kelsen's two overbearing bombardments earlier had certainly looked impressive, but coming up empty-handed was a glaring failure.

Everyone had maintained a tacit understanding without words and hadn't mentioned it. Unfortunately, the current Sybil had completely lost any sense of tact.

Fu Qian was quite curious to see how Kelsen would react.

Crackle!

Just as he turned his head, a wildly dancing cluster of silver-white lightning serpents flared into his line of sight.

Kelsen was ruthless indeed. Realizing he had no advantage in a verbal argument, he decisively switched the battlefield to physical violence.

"You brain-damaged barbarian."

Facing this violent threat, Sybil's words remained as sharp as ever.

At the same time, the entire hall began to tremble.

Below them, a pool of stagnant water churned wildly, rapidly forming a massive whirlpool.

Several streams of foul-smelling liquid slithered out from the vortex like snakes, surging forward to encircle Kelsen.

This ability was way too smelly!

Fu Qian frowned and nimbly backed away a few steps.

"You overestimate yourself!"

Facing the encroaching foul serpents, Kelsen's face showed unhidden disgust.

Yet he didn't retreat in the slightest. With a cold snort, he charged straight at Sybil, his entire body wreathed in lightning.

Refusing to back down, Sybil swiftly dodged while commanding the liquid serpents to intercept and entangle him.

The moment the liquid snakes coiled around Kelsen, a piercing shriek tore from Sybil's mouth.

An instant later, strange ripples vibrated across the bodies of the dark green serpents, looking exactly like a coat of fine, razor-sharp scales.

These scales carried an unimaginable shredding effect.

Wherever they struck, even the solid stone walls were sliced open like tofu, leaving behind shocking gouges.

Trapped in the biting swarm of serpents, Kelsen's body was instantly drenched in blood.

The methods of a demigod were truly eye-opening.

As a spectator, Fu Qian watched the spectacle with keen interest.

Sybil had launched this attack without the slightest warning. Anyone facing it for the first time was bound to suffer.

Even so, amid the clash of silver lightning and dark green slime, the bloodied Kelsen forcefully tore himself free.

An instant later, he tore through the air with unstoppable momentum and snatched Sybil by the throat.

"Don't kill me! I yield!"

For someone who had acted so tough just moments ago, the speed of Sybil's surrender was truly breathtaking.

This state was truly fascinating!

Fu Qian watched closely. She wasn't feigning weakness to stage a counterattack; Sybil was genuinely terrified. Even her voice was trembling.

In fact, the moment Kelsen broke out of her trap, she had instantly abandoned all resistance.

Seeing such a defeatist display from a demigod was truly bizarre.

It was clear that this state did more than just make a person irritable; it seemed to amplify all of their emotions.

It was the exact opposite of the other Saint State, turning them into animals incapable of controlling their emotions.

The same went for Kelsen. He was naturally domineering and arrogant, but he wouldn't usually get angry enough to attack over something so trivial.

Even now, staring at the begging Sybil, his eyes were filled with cruel amusement. He had no intention of sparing her.

The terror on Sybil's face was nearly palpable.

Rumble!

Just as a demigod was about to fall, another rumble echoed through the room.

Watching the spectacle, Fu Qian turned to look, only to see the newly calmed pool churning once more as a massive beam slowly rose from the water.

What was this?

Had an ancient, dilapidated mechanism been triggered by their violent brawl?

Fu Qian frowned as he studied the scene before him.

"What is this?"

Kelsen voiced the exact same question as he witnessed the rising structure.

A moment later, he carelessly tossed Sybil to the ground, focusing all his attention on the sudden development.

The beam continued to rise until it was level with the three of them, yet it showed no signs of stopping.

It only halted in place once it was several meters above them.

"There seems to be a passage on the wall at the other end."

Sybil's gentle voice suddenly rang out.

The demigod who had just been in such a wretched state was now standing there with perfect calm. She gazed up at the sudden behemoth, looking like an entirely different person.

Clearly, whether because her time was up or because her fear had reached a breaking point, her brief rebellious phase had ended.

As for the passage she mentioned, Fu Qian had also already spotted it. It was incredibly well hidden.

The beam sat almost at the very top of the hall. Under normal circumstances, no one would ever expect to find anything up there.

Due to its special design, it was completely obscured from below.

"A very hidden location. If it wasn't pointed out, it would be genuinely hard to notice!"

Sybil continued her evaluation.

"Kelsen, your actions just now were far too impulsive."

She even turned to look at her colleague as she spoke.

"This place carries a subtle psychological influence. It appears even a demigod cannot remain immune to it."

She analyzed the situation with a completely serene expression.

"It seems to force us to constantly switch between two states."

"It was incredibly dangerous just now. We were both in that highly emotional state, and we nearly killed each other over a trivial issue... If this mechanism hadn't appeared, I would likely be dead."

Despite analyzing the possibility of her own death, her tone didn't waver in the slightest.

"From now on, we must be careful to keep our emotions in check."

"You have a point."

Kelsen hadn't interrupted her. When she finished, he even nodded in agreement.

But a moment later, he pointed toward the passage across the beam.

"You go first."
