"You've lost your mind!"
Sybil's sigh echoed through the gunfire.
Honestly, it was an accurate assessment.
The contrast of Fu Qian's sudden shift in behavior was undoubtedly extreme.
One second he was seriously analyzing their exploration results, and the next he was drawing his gun for a headshot.
Unfortunately, to a Demigod, a handgun was hardly a terrifying weapon—even when fired point-blank.
Fu Qian's actions caught Sybil completely off guard. She didn't have time to dodge, but the moment the bullet reached her, layers of ripple-like wrinkles instantly appeared on her face.
These wrinkles were far tougher than they looked. The expensive, specialized bullet only penetrated a fraction of an inch before losing its momentum and stopping.
Thin streaks of blue liquid seeped from the torn wound.
"You have a death wish!"
Due to his current state, Kelsen wasn't nearly as calm. After a brief moment of stunned silence, he let out a furious roar.
Almost instantly, a distorted bolt of lightning took shape in his hand, bathing the surroundings in a blinding white light.
"I am indeed looking for a path, so I must thank you for the help," Fu Qian said.
Facing the encirclement of two Demigods alone, Fu Qian showed no intention of running away. His tone was unnervingly calm.
As he spoke, he turned his gun on Kelsen while raising his right hand.
"Look here."
The two Demigods' gazes were naturally drawn to it, only to find that at some unknown point, a crystal-clear Bell had appeared in Fu Qian's grasp.
Ding!
Before the two could wonder what it was, Fu Qian gently shook the Bell.
The effect of the Eternally Lucid Mind activated, and a Miracle distorted the nearby laws of reality.
Amid the ethereal chime, the crackling lightning in Kelsen's hand instantly dissipated.
"What's going on—"
Kelsen's voice carried clear shock and terror, but he was cut off by the crack of a gunshot before he could finish.
Illuminated by the muzzle flash, the spinning bullet trailed a streak of silver light as it tore through half of his face.
With Transcendent abilities nullified, the destructive power of a bullet could no longer be ignored.
However, a Demigod's physical constitution still possessed a fundamental superiority.
Even without a special protective state like Sybil's, Kelsen took the shot straight to the face, and the bullet merely shattered his cheekbone before coming to a dead halt.
Unfortunately, Fu Qian had no intention of letting him off. Facing the knocked-down Kelsen, he pulled the trigger again without hesitation, aiming directly at the same wound.
A skull already riddled with fractures could never withstand a second shot.
"Stop!"
At this moment, Sybil finally reacted, desperately trying to save her colleague from this madman.
But under the ringing of the Bell, she was horrified to discover that her many abilities were suppressed, and even the defensive wrinkles on her face had faded away.
If she had been the target, she wouldn't have been able to escape either.
As this realization struck her, even with the steadfastness of the Saints, Sybil still felt a surge of despair.
Thwack!
Right then, an unexpected change occurred.
A shriveled arm suddenly thrust itself in front of Kelsen.
Fu Qian's third bullet instantly tore through her palm, yet ultimately failed to pierce it completely.
The mummified Angel kneeling on the ground had actually taken this fatal blow for Kelsen!
'Interesting!'
There were still bullets in the gun, but Fu Qian didn't fire again. He simply stared quietly at this sudden obstacle, allowing Kelsen to scramble away.
The corpse had originally been kneeling there. In fact, even now, her legs were still bound in place.
Yet to perform the act of saving him, her entire upper body had twisted into a deformed state.
Muddy eyeballs sat inside her sunken sockets, staring straight at him.
Filled with compassion, unable to bear seeing someone die in front of her even in death?
Naturally, Fu Qian didn't believe a word of that.
There were about three seconds left.
Silently counting the time, Fu Qian sidestepped the corpse blocking his path and chased after the fleeing Kelsen.
The man was clearly in a state of extreme panic. As he ran, he frantically rubbed a Ring on his finger, presumably his life-saving artifact.
Unfortunately, it gave no reaction.
Under the suppression of the Eternally Lucid Mind, as a spellcaster, he was affected far more severely than Fu Qian.
This incomprehensible situation caused his fear to spread uncontrollably, violently assaulting Kelsen's mind until he nearly lost the ability to think.
Leaving no room to breathe, Fu Qian's deadly footsteps had already caught up.
Confronting Kelsen, who hadn't even fully stood back up, Fu Qian stomped down without hesitation.
However, right at that moment, an intense sense of danger flared from behind him.
From the corner of Fu Qian's eye, a beam of pure white light, overflowing with a holy aura, bloomed from the bound corpse.
'She was actually the first to break free from the restriction?'
This was undoubtedly a Transcendent ability. It practically confirmed that this corpse's Rank was the highest among everyone present.
If he followed through with his stomp, Kelsen's liver and brains would certainly be smeared on the ground, but he himself would inevitably take the hit.
Realizing this, Fu Qian aborted the kick and dodged aside without a second thought.
The next moment, the pure white beam shot through where he had just been standing. After flying a long distance, it dissipated into a flurry of illusory Feathers.
Almost simultaneously, Fu Qian looked up in a certain direction.
'Found you!'
He didn't turn back to deal with the corpse, nor did he continue trying to kill Kelsen. Instead, Fu Qian leaped forward, rushing toward the doorway at incredible speed.
The next instant, a translucent silhouette suddenly peeled itself off the black gate, turning into a streak of light as it bolted outside.
'Pretty fast reaction. Too bad I'm a top-tier task runner—shaking me off won't be that easy!'
Fu Qian snorted, his pace never slowing.
Killing Kelsen and Sybil wasn't actually a pressing matter at all.
And this entire sequence of actions wasn't just a sudden burst of bloodlust.
He had only one goal: to create a scenario where these two Demigods were on the brink of death.
The reason he did this was because one thing had always struck Fu Qian as strange—the timing of this crossbeam's appearance was far too coincidental!
It could certainly be explained as Kelsen and Sybil's prior conflict accidentally triggering a mechanism.
But wasn't there another possibility? What if someone wanted to draw their attention, interrupting their clash to prevent Sybil from genuinely dying by Kelsen's hand?
Someone didn't want them dead.
If that was true, then someone had to be hiding nearby.
Fu Qian wanted to verify this theory, which led to those three shots.
And the results were a pleasant surprise.
Just as Kelsen was plunged into a desperate crisis, a corpse actually saved him once again.
