Chapter 471: Wasteland Arc (33)

Just materials?

Hearing Ji Yicheng’s words, Fu Qian's mind suddenly cleared as the answers to his previous doubts fell into place.

“So the reason you did all this was just for materials?”

Fu Qian looked at Ji Yicheng.

It had struck him as odd earlier. Using this place to set a trap was reasonable enough, but this guy stepping in to save people made absolutely no sense.

He hadn’t even favored a side. Whether it was Sybil or Kelsen, he would intervene whenever someone was on the brink of death.

It turned out they were all just materials in his eyes. Letting them die would simply be a waste.

“Exactly.”

Ji Yicheng, ever the lover of good material, nodded with a sneer.

“In other words, you’ve gained the Mirror’s approval?”

Fu Qian asked.

“Yes.”

“Your wings and the abilities you displayed earlier were all obtained because of this?”

“That is merely the part you can see.”

Ji Yicheng extended his right hand, his tone carrying an indescribable intoxication.

“Its potential is beyond your imagination. With every harvest, I can feel my own growth. I have touched divinity.”

His entire right hand and arm gradually turned crystal clear and dazzlingly bright.

“That is a completely new sensation you have never experienced!”

“The thrill of unbridled growth without any bottlenecks!”

“Let me guess.”

Seeing Ji Yicheng grow increasingly intoxicated, his speech turning entirely into exclamations, Fu Qian quickly interrupted him, afraid the man might start masturbating on the spot.

“The harvest you mentioned—does it mean killing those who have been mentally affected?”

“Not killing. Purifying.”

Ji Yicheng’s eyes still did not leave his hand.

“They carry the shadow of depravity on them. I merely purified it.”

“At least before they die, their souls are as pure as Saints.”

“I see!”

Fu Qian offered no comment on this act of self-Sublimation. Instead, he carefully recalled the behavior of everyone inside the Ruins.

“If I’m not mistaken, the shadows of depravity you mentioned only appear when people are inside the Ruins?”

“Exactly. The Ruins can influence those inside, forcing their depravity to manifest and separate from them.”

“Of course, you people certainly cannot see it yourselves.”

“But in my eyes, those twisted, chaotic existences are incredibly clear.”

So that was why that group of people had taken on that detached, unworldly demeanor?

The depraved side of human nature was forcefully manifested, leaving behind only the side of light.

As for the sudden personality shifts in between, that was those two sides fighting for dominance?

Fu Qian’s mind raced.

“And your killing—or purifying, rather—is only effective under those circumstances?”

Fu Qian continued asking, following the man’s line of thought.

“So the fundamental reason you approached An Gui with this plan was to lure as many transcendents as possible inside, turning them into your materials?”

“That place is too hidden.”

Ji Yicheng’s laughter carried a hint of agony. The next moment, bloody light flashed. Amid the sound of tearing flesh and skin, a pair of wings forcibly tore out of his back.

Compared to the ones in the Ruins, these wings looked much more real, giving off a very visceral, flesh-and-blood feeling.

And although sparse, pure white Feathers pushed their way out one by one to adorn them.

“If I just stood guard there, the efficiency would be far too low. I don’t have the time to sit and wait for prey.”

“Not to mention, if bizarre accidents kept happening, either people would start treating it as a forbidden zone and stop coming, or it would attract overly powerful gazes.”

“But in a conflict between two factions, death becomes very common and won’t easily arouse suspicion.”

Fu Qian clicked his tongue in wonder.

“You really don’t hold back against your own people, do you?”

To execute this man’s plan, there was a high probability he couldn’t solely target people from Siren when harvesting prey.

“There’s no need to sound so high and mighty. I can tell we are the same kind of people.”

“Things like propriety, righteousness, integrity, and shame—you’ve always scoffed at them too, haven’t you?”

Ji Yicheng wore a cold sneer.

“Otherwise, I wouldn’t have made this proposal.”

“That group relies on the Ji Clan for protection, so they must pay the price for it. Everyone takes what they need. I have never believed in so-called loyalty.”

“Just like that dog, An Gui. Raised by us since childhood, yet didn’t he turn around and bite us in the blink of an eye?”

With a flap of his wings, Ji Yicheng slowly hovered in mid-air, looking like a descending holy envoy in the dim night.

“Do you feel this power?”

“I am willing to use this secret to make an exchange with you. What do you think?”

“Sounds interesting. But according to you, wouldn't I also be just a material in there?”

“I already told you, you first need to gain the Mirror’s approval.”

Seeing that Fu Qian seemed somewhat interested, Ji Yicheng quickly responded.

“I will assist you in completing that process.”

“Is that so? Then who assisted you back then?”

“I am different. I gained approval the very first moment.”

Ji Yicheng’s answer was surprisingly honest.

“I was also very puzzled, but it is the truth. The first time I saw that Mirror, I saw a special scene.”

“The scene you see now.”

He pointed at his own body.

Was it really that miraculous?

When things are abnormal, there must be something sinister at work. So this guy was the key for him to complete his mission?

Fu Qian looked at the thrilled Ji Yicheng, pondering silently.

While he and the others had seen chaotic and twisted images, this guy had seen an image of himself growing wings. No wonder he considered himself the chosen one.

And from this guy’s description, Fu Qian seemed to have grasped the key to completing his task.

If that Mirror truly was something similar to the Statue of the Goddess of Sins, then the man before him was clearly Sir William the second.

The essence of what they did was the same: entering a covenant with a certain special entity, then hunting and offering up something specific.

William had become a Sin Seeker and established a slaughter game to collect Sin Fire.

And this one had incarnated as an Angel, attempting to provoke a conflict between the two factions to seize the opportunity to purify sins.

The idea actually wasn't bad. Unfortunately, he was still far too green; he hadn’t even reached the level of the Demigod Realm.

“How about it? I am being very honest. I truly cannot guarantee absolute success, but with such an opportunity, trying it out won’t cost you anything, will it?”

“You also don’t have to worry about me taking the chance to harm you. I cherish my life quite a bit, and I have no desire to face that bizarre Bell of yours.”

Ji Yicheng looked at Fu Qian with sheer fervor.

“Unfortunately, your proposal hasn’t swayed me, so I can’t turn around for you.”

It was a pity that Fu Qian had only pondered for two seconds before rejecting him outright.

“Think again.”

Think again...

Ji Yicheng was clearly dealt a heavy blow for a moment, staring dead at Fu Qian.

But right after, his expression suddenly shifted, and a dazzling brilliance shot into the sky from his body.

“Then what if we add this?”

At the same time, a roar like a tempest echoed from not far away.

Two familiar presences were charging rapidly in this direction.

“You really shouldn’t have talked so much nonsense!”

Ji Yicheng’s voice rang out again, but his tone had undergone a massive shift. His body, suspended in mid-air, was like a blazing torch in the dark night.
