Chapter 689: The Moment of Devouring (4)

If I fired an Air Bullet at it right now, the mission would probably fail instantly, right?

Fu Qian thought as he studied the bizarre horse, quietly taking in the changes in his companions.

He wasn't planning on making such a pointless attempt just yet.

His current priority was to find Goya Ulrich.

Besides, anyone with half a brain could figure out that every change in this room was almost certainly being monitored in real time.

Aaah—

A piercing scream interrupted his thoughts. In the end, the test was not going to conclude peacefully.

Surprisingly, the first to break wasn't Brother 1349, but Ms. 6, who had appeared to be in the best condition.

Upon entering the room, the three of them had positioned themselves in three different directions.

Three minutes.

Fu Qian's grasp of time was highly precise.

Absolutely no more than three minutes had passed since the door closed, and someone was already buckling under that eerie horse's cry.

Ms. 6 pounded furiously against the door, her eyes fixed firmly on the floor. She absolutely refused to look at the horse again.

At the same time, despite her low Rank, she was displaying considerable strength.

The heavy door clanged under her furious blows, the sound echoing through the space alongside the horse's whinnies.

Unfortunately, test subjects never got to decide their own fate.

No matter how much Ms. 6 pounded and screamed, the door showed no sign of opening. The staff outside didn't even bother broadcasting a warning to stop her.

Or perhaps this was simply part of the test.

Though she received no response from the outside, her commotion agitated the other subjects inside the room.

Spurred by Ms. 6's continuous screaming, Brother 1349—who had been standing as still as a statue—finally turned his head to stare at her.

A few seconds later, an expression of distinct agony surfaced on his blank face. Shockingly, he began to move, walking straight toward the door.

The situation was growing increasingly chaotic. It seemed the testing staff had a truly discerning eye; the hit rate for their selected subjects was quite high.

They might have seemed fine after the first test, but their symptoms were much more pronounced during this second visit.

Speaking of which, shouldn't he go join the fun too?

"Don't come over here!"

Just as Fu Qian was pondering this, Ms. 6 noticed 1349's approach. She let out an even more agonizing shriek, glaring at him as if he were something filthy.

Unfortunately, the warning held absolutely no deterrent power over Brother 1349. Without a word, he continued to advance, step by step.

His approach clearly put tremendous pressure on Ms. 6. Her face twisted into a ferocious scowl, and she began frantically rubbing her head, instantly turning her smooth, long hair into a tangled mess.

After several consecutive warnings failed, Ms. 6 finally erupted. With a feral roar, she lunged at Brother 1349, who had just reached the door.

Blood sprayed.

Driven by an incomprehensible frenzy, Ms. 6 showed absolutely no intention of holding back.

Her fingers hooked like claws, instantly tearing through Brother 1349's orange uniform to leave a deep, gaping wound on his chest.

At a glance, both flesh and bone had been cleaved.

Brother 1349 finally stopped in his tracks. He looked down at the horrifying gash on his chest, yet his face showed no sign of the pain one would expect from such a severe wound.

The next moment, he did something utterly horrifying.

Brother 1349 reached out, slowly running his fingers along the gash. He pinched a trembling strip of torn flesh and pulled hard, slowly ripping it off against the grain.

The pain index for that can't be low.

Witnessing this, Fu Qian evaluated the scene like a seasoned veteran.

Given that there wasn't much time left and the situation was growing so thrilling, he decisively abandoned the idea of stepping forward and chose to simply enjoy the show as a spectator.

Right now, Brother 1349 was holding the torn flesh up to his face, studying it with a look that even betrayed a hint of twisted pleasure.

Ms. 6, the attacker, was clearly spooked by his reaction. Showing no desire to finish the job, she scrambled backward in a panic, desperate to get away from him.

Especially when 1349 stuffed the flesh into his mouth and began chewing vigorously.

Clack!

Just as the situation escalated to a fever pitch, the sound of shifting metal finally rang out. The door beside Brother 1349 slid open to both sides.

"Step outside the door."

An emotionless voice broadcasted from a corner of the wall.

The five minutes were finally up.

The fastest to react was undoubtedly Ms. 6. As if granted a pardon, she bounded out like she had been electrocuted.

Fu Qian cast one last look at the Katydid Horse. Confirming that no further anomalies had occurred, he followed her lead.

As he brushed past Brother 1349, he casually grabbed the dazed man and hauled him through the door as well.

The man didn't struggle; he merely stood quietly to the side, continuing to chew on himself.

Once the inner metal door sealed shut again, the path leading out to the Corridor slowly opened.

A squad of guards was already stationed there, staring at the three of them as if facing a mortal threat.

In an instant, they rushed forward, restraining Ms. 6 and Brother 1349 separately.

It seemed such gruesome test results weren't all that common.

Since Fu Qian wasn't exhibiting any dangerous behavior, he was spared any rough treatment.

However, the figure who appeared to be the squad captain eventually walked up to him with a complex expression.

...

Clearly, though, the guards didn't have the authority to interrogate him.

Once the situation was under control, someone quickly led Fu Qian away.

This time, he evidently didn't need another psychological evaluation; he was escorted straight to the uppermost floor.

Accompanying him was Ms. 6, who had been confirmed to have no physical injuries.

Unsurprisingly, Fu Qian found himself standing outside Doctor Cynthia's door.

A moment later, a message came from inside, ordering the guards to bring them both in.

Entering her office once again, Fu Qian noticed her expression was noticeably grimmer than before.

Doctor Cynthia's gaze shifted back and forth between Fu Qian and Ms. 6 before finally settling on the latter, whose hands were still stained with blood.

"6666, you need to explain your behavior."

...

Ms. 6's psychological coping skills seemed quite decent.

She had been on the verge of total madness just moments ago, but she had already calmed down significantly, even using her hands to roughly comb her hair.

"It wasn't like last time. The voice was louder."

She murmured her reply to Cynthia's question.

"The horse's cry?"

Cynthia stared at her.

"Not crying. It was talking!"

Ms. 6 shook her head through gritted teeth.

"And this time, I clearly heard what it said... It told me its name was Patches."

"No, wait... It said my name was Patches."

After a few seconds of hesitation, she corrected herself uncertainly.
