Chapter 732: A Life to Yearn For

Overall, the trip to Wushe Temple had further confirmed the speculation that the King of Ye Island might be connected to the Origin Council.

And as for this particular game, Fu Qian had also developed quite an interest in it.

Given his current persona, however, Fu Qian and Su Gao waited a bit, showing Takahashi Yae a modicum of respect before setting off for home.

Not that such a gesture would have much of an effect on a Demigod.

Even so, the sky had gone completely dark by the time they returned to their residence.

Everything was exactly as it had been when they left; no one was staking out the house.

This was essentially the ideal scenario according to the plan—a calm brought about by the balance of various factions.

Fu Qian was naturally very satisfied with this, and he peacefully enjoyed a good night's sleep without the slightest qualm.

Meanwhile, as the mastermind from the Siren Group, Su Gao naturally stayed on high alert all night.

"Madam Suzune, do you need something from me this early?"

The night passed uneventfully. Early the next morning, Fu Qian looked at their visitor, Hayami Suzune, in surprise.

She looked much more emotionally stable than she had yesterday. He wondered if Laige had talked some sense into her after they went back.

"Morning, Mister Dancy. But I'm not here for you."

Hayami Suzune offered a smile that didn't reach her eyes.

"I'm looking for Violetta. Is she here?"

Was she afraid Su Gao had already become his midnight snack?

Fu Qian shook his head inwardly. At that moment, footsteps drifted down the stairs. Su Gao, who had been listening to the commotion below, made her appearance right on cue.

"Madam Suzune is looking for me?"

As she spoke, Su Gao's long, slender eyes narrowed slightly, making her look as though she had just woken up.

She really has no idea how dangerous the world is if she can sleep in a place like this!

Watching her, Hayami Suzune couldn't help but criticize her inwardly.

"Didn't you want to meet that retired transcendent? The captain sent me to ask if you have time today."

So that was the reason.

It seemed even Laige was somewhat worried about Su Gao's safety.

His notoriety really had spread far and wide.

Fu Qian mused to himself.

"Really? That's wonderful!"

Hearing Hayami Suzune's news, Su Gao seemed to wake up completely.

In the next second, however, Fu Qian still caught the subconscious glance she threw his way.

"Mister Dancy, do we have time today?"

"Uh..."

Fu Qian glanced at Hayami Suzune and, unsurprisingly, found a deeply unwelcoming expression on her face.

Recalling Delin, who possessed quite the air of a leader, he nodded a moment later.

"Sure."

Senior Takahashi Yae had once said: one must go with the flow.

...

Hayami Suzune was clearly displeased about Fu Qian tagging along, but the situation seemed to be within her expectations. After a brief hesitation, she ultimately said nothing.

She considerately gave Su Gao ten minutes to wash up. Soon after, led by Hayami Suzune, the two met Laige, who was serving as their driver.

"I've already told Delin about your situation. He says you're more than welcome."

Laige seemed to be in a good mood, smiling as he gestured for Su Gao to get into the car.

"It just so happens I have the day off today."

"Thank you."

Su Gao politely thanked him and got in.

In contrast, Fu Qian was given the cold shoulder. Laige merely gave him a superficial smile before completely ignoring him.

Fortunately, Fu Qian possessed plenty of self-knowledge, so he simply chose to close his eyes and rest.

...

Delin's post-retirement residence wasn't remote at all.

Along the way, Fu Qian noticed the increasingly luxurious architecture around them, silently praising the retired transcendent for accumulating so much wealth.

Furthermore, from Laige's introduction, he learned that the Night Watchers' headquarters was also located in this area. Fu Qian instantly gained a deeper understanding of Delin's choice.

Having narrowly escaped death, it seemed Delin placed considerable importance on safety.

Before long, Laige turned the car into a small courtyard. Hearing the engine, a middle-aged couple had already come out to greet them.

At a glance, the man walking in front was clearly Delin, though he had put on a bit of weight. Even the harsh lines of his resolute face had softened considerably.

Beside him stood a rather intellectual-looking middle-aged woman with long black hair and a gentle gaze. She appeared slightly younger than him.

And without a doubt, she was an ordinary person.

"You're here."

It was obvious Delin's retirement was quite comfortable. He greeted Laige with a relaxed, leisurely demeanor.

"You must be Violetta, right? Laige mentioned you. Welcome!"

His gaze settled on Su Gao a moment later.

"Honestly, it's somewhat surprising that a young person like you would be interested in our kind of life."

Delin didn't seem to shy away from his past experiences; he evidently hadn't hidden his history from his family.

Considering the current atmosphere on Ye Island, there was really no need to hide it anyway.

"Dancy Crawford."

After greeting Su Gao and the others, Delin finally shifted his gaze to Fu Qian.

After sizing Fu Qian up with an expressionless face, however, he merely repeated his name before turning his head away, not even bothering to offer a greeting.

Now this is the attitude one should have after retirement!

Fu Qian secretly praised him, not feeling the slightest bit offended.

Some might have felt that such undisguised disgust was far too blunt.

But with a little thought, it made sense. His current identity was nothing more than a wealthy, somewhat influential scoundrel.

Perhaps thanks to the order established by the Night Watchers, transcendents couldn't directly harm him.

But conversely, Delin had absolutely no need to care what Fu Qian thought of him, because it was even more impossible for Fu Qian to cause him any harm.

...

Given the beautiful weather, and after confirming that Su Gao and Fu Qian didn't need breakfast, Mrs. Delin suggested they drink tea out in the yard.

Su Gao naturally had no objections. At Delin's gesture, the four guests quickly took their seats.

Mrs. Delin brought over the tea set and skillfully began to prepare it, her every movement elegant and composed.

Fu Qian had previously thought Hayami Suzune's tea-making skills were adept, but in comparison, the gap was blatantly obvious.

Laige and Hayami Suzune were clearly regulars here, acting completely at ease.

After a brief period of small talk, the conversation quickly turned to the eventful days of the past.

Su Gao showed considerable interest in this, listening with utmost attention.

"Young people are always full of beautiful imaginations, but believe me—many things sound interesting, but actually participating in them isn't nearly as grand."

Seeing how interested this young girl named Violetta was, Delin took a sip of tea and let out a long sigh.

"A life like this was once something we looked down upon."

"Yet now, I rejoice every single day that I made the right choice."

"I can imagine. I heard Captain Laige mention that you all encountered a major crisis together, and afterward, you each made changes to your lives."

Delin's words were undoubtedly spoken from the heart, and Su Gao slowly nodded.

"I wonder, when did that happen?"

She naturally followed up with the question a moment later.
