"The Rebirth Club?"
"You know your sister well, guessing she'd end up with that crowd."
Fu Qian glanced at Veil, mentally giving her a thumbs-up.
Of course, he didn't mention that the sister she was so worried about was already part of that monstrosity.
"I know the place. Follow me," Fu Qian said, waving for her to keep up.
Following the route from memory, he led Veil swiftly to the Rebirth Club's bar.
Under the moonlight, the three-armed brute at the door had mutated into a beast that walked on five legs.
The moment it spotted them, it let out a low growl and lunged, scrambling forward on all its limbs.
Unfortunately for the creature, it caught an Air Bullet to the face before it even landed, sending it flying backward.
The sight drained the color from Veil's face.
"This is it."
Without hesitation, Fu Qian pushed the door open and walked right in.
Swish!
In the blink of an eye, a cold gleam shot toward them.
Fu Qian reached out his right hand, once again catching the spear between two fingers.
The next moment, an agonizing roar echoed through the room as a dark silhouette pounced.
Fu Qian easily dodged to the side, finally getting a clear look at his attacker.
He considered himself well-traveled, but the sight before him was still a marvel.
A massive, top-heavy torso sprouted no fewer than twenty limbs in every direction like a sea urchin, with several heads wedged between them.
Supporting the entire monstrosity at the bottom was a slender, four-legged equine body.
Judging by the sheer number of limbs, it seemed every person they had encountered earlier had been mashed together here.
Fu Qian sighed, quickly spotting a pale gray eyeball embedded in one of the hands.
That eye was currently locked dead onto him.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The fading sensation lasted for less than half a second.
Fu Qian didn't give it a chance to maintain the illusion. He fired a barrage of Air Bullets, continuously blasting the urchin-like monster until severed limbs were flying everywhere.
Eventually, the sea urchin couldn't hold itself up and crashed to the ground.
A chorus of relieved whimpers echoed out, sounding like five or six people moaning in unison.
"What in the..."
Having witnessed the spectacle, Veil barely got halfway through her sentence before clapping a hand over her mouth and bolting to the side to vomit.
"This is the Rebirth Club you were looking for," Fu Qian said once she had mostly finished throwing up.
"Though it looks like they won't be answering any of your questions."
Veil exhaled sharply.
Returning after throwing up, Veil proved far less fragile than expected. Fighting down her nausea, she stepped forward and examined the deformed heads one by one.
After spotting Jenny's brown hair amid the mangled flesh, she visibly let out a sigh of relief.
But that was the limit of her endurance; she clamped a hand over her mouth again and sprinted outside.
Her condition still seemed relatively normal.
Was it true that those who underwent limb grafting suffered a greater impact?
Veil still had her original limbs and was a transcendent, putting her in the group least affected by the mutations.
"I already gave the pendant to your sister. I suggest you find a place to hide for now," Fu Qian called out to Veil.
Without waiting for a response, he pushed the door open and dashed straight toward the Central Island.
The thunder was dying down. It was time to finish the job.
...
By the time Fu Qian arrived, the Old Man, Ibu, was drawing back a bow made of lightning, electric currents gathering on the string.
In the next moment, the monster's only remaining active tentacle was sliced clean in two, collapsing lifelessly to the ground.
Having unleashed that strike, the lightning dancing across Ibu's body dimmed, revealing his exhaustion.
Before him, the entire Laboratory had been reduced to ruins.
"Ah, still a step too late!" Fu Qian sighed heavily, stepping forward.
"Wait, aren't you..."
Ibu was visibly startled the moment he saw Fu Qian.
He instinctively glanced at the monster's corpse, then looked back at Fu Qian, deep existential doubt plastered across his face.
'He really did think I mutated into that monster,' Fu Qian realized.
In a way, the Old Man was quite straightforward.
"I guessed something would go wrong over at the Laboratory. After dealing with the hidden dangers on my own body, I rushed straight over. I just didn't expect to be a step too late."
Sighing, Fu Qian raised his arm to show his fully recovered limb.
"You went to deal with the corruption in your body just now?" Ibu stared at Fu Qian coldly, his expression laced with suspicion.
'Pretty sharp!'
Even though Ibu was in poor condition after his fierce battle, being subjected to that piercing gaze made Fu Qian feel as if he had nowhere to hide.
'Truly worthy of a legendary demigod.'
"That's right," Fu Qian nodded.
"Yesterday, Lu Ming lured me here and deliberately had me touch a bizarre tentacle.
I felt something was wrong right then, but I never expected I'd almost fail to suppress it during the match."
"I managed to find a spot to deal with it, so I'm fine now."
"What happened here? And what's going on with the moon?"
"That... I'm not entirely sure either."
After staring at Fu Qian for a long time, Ibu finally turned his head, shifting his gaze to the massive corpse.
"I originally thought... well, I sensed this thing and rushed over immediately, and right after that, the blood moon appeared in the sky.
I thought the anomaly in the sky was caused by this monster. But now I'm absolutely certain it's dead, and yet the blood moon hasn't vanished."
Ibu shook his head.
"It's strange. I can't figure it out."
'So even this demigod hasn't realized things were reset.'
Earlier, right before he had killed Bai Jinting, this old man had clearly discovered him and turned back.
Yet right now, his memory was stuck on fighting this monster.
'A method that not even a demigod is immune to? Something is definitely fishy!'
"I'm heading over to the White Tower to take a look," Fu Qian said, immediately sprinting toward the tower without waiting for a reply.
Ibu's energy was severely depleted; he no longer had the strength to stop him.
Which saved Fu Qian the trouble of having to finish him off.
Of course, if he had tried to force the issue, Fu Qian would have had no choice but to take his head.
Now that he had confirmed the monster had nothing to do with the blood moon, he needed to find the source. He might as well go have a chat with Bai Jinting.
...
By the time he reentered the White Tower, it had devolved into a hellish carnival.
On the spectator stands, all sorts of monsters and demons were leaping wildly, their bodies undergoing severe bestial mutations.
Sea-urchin-like fusions rampaged everywhere, devouring targets or being swallowed whole by even larger amalgams.
Kicking away a monster that lunged at him, Fu Qian didn't hesitate. Repeating his old trick, he vaulted up toward the stands.
This time, he faced far more resistance.
The mutated audience had become extremely aggressive. With nearly every step he took, various beasts threw themselves at him. Fu Qian twisted and turned, dodging relentlessly as he made his way higher.
For a moment, it felt like he was playing some retro arcade platformer.
Finally, after smashing through endless obstacles, Fu Qian leapt onto Bai Jinting's viewing platform once again.
Bai Jinting was still the only one in the booth, watching the hellscape below with great relish.
When he saw Fu Qian, his expression darkened once again.
"Why?"
"Take a guess!"
This time, Fu Qian didn't rush to attack. Instead, he dragged over a chair and sat down.
"Ah, I know!"
Bai Jinting looked thoughtful for a moment before suddenly crying out, feigning a look of sudden realization.
"You're here to kill me again!"
