Empire Rising: Spain

Chapter 367 - 204: Bullfighting Event (Part 3)

The only relatively difficult task is choosing the location for the bullring. It not only needs to be in a place with convenient transportation to facilitate the arrival of future tourists but also must be located far from the Madrid City Center to not affect the future expansion of Madrid.

One must know that Madrid is currently the city with the largest population in Spain and is experiencing rapid population growth.

In terms of population growth, only Barcelona can compare with Madrid, as these two cities are the twin stars of Spain.

Because of the continuously growing population, the scale of Madrid City has been expanding compared to a few years ago. If the location of the new bullring affects the subsequent urban expansion of Madrid, it could be a problem in the future.

It’s better to consider the issue of Madrid’s urban expansion early on, so as not to affect the construction and subsequent operation of the bullring while accommodating Madrid’s urban expansion, which can be considered a win-win situation.

As of now, Madrid has officially become the first and only city in Spain with a population of over 500,000.

A population exceeding 520,000 makes the capital of Spain a true metropolis, as well as the current cultural, economic, and religious center of Spain.

Barcelona’s population is just over 430,000, which is still somewhat inferior compared to Madrid. But the speed of population expansion in Barcelona is in no way inferior to Madrid’s; perhaps in a future day, Barcelona might even surpass Madrid in population.

After all, Barcelona has the advantage of sea transport, something that Madrid lacks. Madrid is located in the geographic center of Spanish territory, which is quite important.

But also due to its inland location, Madrid’s transportation relies only on railways and highways, which to some extent limits Madrid’s development.

The matter of the large bullring has been resolved, and the next step is to think about how to promote the rapid development of bullfighting activities.

The simplest way to speed up the development of bullfighting activities is to organize relatively official competitions, while preparing abundant prizes and letting Spain’s newspaper media extensively promote them, sparking the public’s spontaneous interest in bullfighting competitions.

However, there is a piece of bad news at present, which is that Spain’s bullfighting season is about to pass. The bullfighting season in Spain typically runs from March to October, and it is now early October, so bullfighting activities are about to end.

This also means that if we want to vigorously promote bullfighting activities, it can only be planned to start from next March.

Fortunately, there are only a few months in between, which is just right for preparing the hosting of bullfighting activities, as well as disseminating bullfighting activities as news throughout Spain, thereby attracting more tourists and citizens’ attention, increasing the competition’s attention and enthusiasm, while also enhancing its excitement.

Within a few days, Carlo established the Spanish Bullfighting Association, specifically responsible for promoting bullfighting activities and operating subsequent bullfighting events, among other things.

And just a few days after its establishment, the Spanish Bullfighting Association announced their carefully prepared first national Spanish Bullfighting Competition.

The Spanish Royal Bullfighting Competition is the official name of this competition. The entire competition will be divided into two major segments, held across various parts of Spain and in the capital, Madrid.

The first major segment will take place from March to July next year, and it will be held in bullrings across various regions of Spain, selecting ten excellent bullfighters from all over Spain to gather in Madrid for the second round.

The second major segment will be from August to October next year. The excellent bullfighters selected from all regions will gather in Madrid to present even more exciting bullfighting performances.

A total of three months of competition time will sift out the finest bullfighters in Spain. Besides the traditional applause, bull ears, and bull tail rewards, the final winning bullfighter will also receive a personal audience with Carlo, as well as the title of Spanish Royal Bullfighter.

In addition to these honorary rewards, the top ten bullfighters from each region will receive varying amounts of financial rewards. And after undergoing the final three-month competition, the top ten bullfighters in Spain will receive even more generous rewards, with the minimum being checks worth several thousand Pessetas.

As for the most outstanding bullfighter who earns the title of Royal Bullfighter, they will receive at least one check worth over ten thousand Pessetas, which is already dozens of times the annual income of an ordinary Spaniard.
