After getting Ossana’s accurate answer, Bologue didn’t continue to tangle with her. To avoid attracting All Secrets Order’s attention, he also declined Yolanda and Yannis, choosing to walk back alone to the Umbrella Tower, while on the way, Bologue observed the look of the Wasteland District, secretly noting down its geographical layout.
On the surface, it appeared desolate, yet Bologue guessed that it must have many underground structures hiding numerous Imperfects and ordinary people.
Similarly, in that Supreme Hub, there must be a large number of Imperfects and ordinary people working for the Ancestral Council. The Imperfects were somewhat alright, as in the eyes of the Ancestral Council, they had some semblance of human rights; ordinary people, however, were entirely just consumables of flesh and blood.
Bologue could imagine how many ordinary people were suffering an endless torment there, never seeing the light of day.
"Do you think Ossana is truly an Idealist?" Olivia’s voice rang beside his ear.
She wasn’t used to using Whistles, those small devices from the Order Bureau. To be more specific, Olivia didn’t like Bologue’s voice directly sounding in her mind, which made her very uneasy, as if someone had intruded into her inner world.
After parting from Ossana and the rest, Olivia disabled the Whistles, with her cold Dagger still at Bologue’s heart, as they chatted idly along the way.
"I actually don’t care much about the truthfulness of words," Bologue said, "what’s truly important is the actions she takes."
"Action, is it?"
"Yes, anyone can speak beautifully, but not everyone has the courage to draw their sword."
Bologue continued, "I can understand Ossana’s thinking; she sees herself as some higher form of Savior. In other words, she’s not much different from those radicals, just a group of arrogant folks with high self-regard, except the radicals view ordinary people as a resource, while she chooses to save these people to fulfill her Savior complex."
"Are you so good at analyzing others’ minds?"
"No, it’s just that I happen to have the same Savior complex myself, which allows me to understand Ossana’s feelings." Bologue made no attempt to conceal his thoughts.
Olivia was silent for a few seconds, her tone complicated as she said, "You’re quite arrogant, too, Bologue."
"I know, I always knew."
"No, you’re even more arrogant than others; others are arrogant without realizing it, while you are fully aware, yet don’t care at all."
"Probably."
Bologue walked briskly, occasionally looking up to see Condensers swooping high in the sky like hovering eagles.
In the Land of Secrets, the Secret Energy of Condensers wasn’t restricted; Bologue at this moment could completely unleash his powers, cutting through the streets like a lightning bolt, swiftly returning to the Umbrella Tower.
But Bologue didn’t do so; he was already accustomed to living like ordinary people, only activating Secret Energy during combat.
"What about you, Olivia? Was my guess correct?"
Bologue shifted the conversation towards Olivia, his tone assertive, pressing forward relentlessly, completely ignoring the Dagger pointed at his heart.
"You are the Daughter of Sere, and the name erased in the ’Dawn Oath.’ To be honest, I think with Sere’s awful character, he definitely wouldn’t care about blood ties or the like, even his own daughter."
In a normal course of fate, you should have been burned to death under the blazing sun of the Dawn War. But something happened; that cold-hearted Sere unexpectedly showed mercy to you. Not only did he spare you, he also erased your name, granting you freedom."
"Shut up! You know nothing!"
Olivia’s voice suddenly burst into fury, and the Dagger pierced into the flesh, sending a sting of pain.
Bologue kept a poker face, seemingly unfazed by pain, "This freedom is a Curse for you, your kin were all killed by Sere, and the remaining bloodlines were sealed in the Land of Eternal Night."
Sere hid inside the Undying Club, leaving you alone in this world to live solitary in the darkness."
Bologue recalled the auction he participated in when he first met Olivia; Olivia purchased the Blood and Flesh Derivation there, that grotesque flesh vessel capable of endlessly generating fresh blood. Back then, Olivia said it was for her kindred.
"I should have realized then," Bologue continued, "you couldn’t bear the loneliness, or perhaps something else happened, leading you to take that forbidden step, conducting Blood Donation for ordinary people."
Olivia was silent for quite a while, the cold Dagger withdrawn, yet Bologue could sense Olivia still lingering nearby, hovering around him without leaving, like a ghost filled with chill.
"Once you realized you committed a grave error, it was already too late," Bologue said, softly, "that must have been a tough choice, right?"
"Driven by loneliness, pain, affection, and other inexplicable emotions, you saved those people, desiring a happy haven where the sun wouldn’t extinguish everything, to enjoy eternal happiness... But you were too naive."
Bologue could imagine such a story, Olivia saving those pitiable people like a Holy Mother, yet with the acquisition of eternal life, the internal elements would inevitably distort and morph over time.
"You can restrain yourself, but they cannot, gradually succumbing to the power of the Undead, their growing desires breeding abominable evil thoughts."
