Ark ended up having to meet Eva somewhere outside the adventurer’s guild to complete their deal. And then finally, the system tab appeared in front of him—

Ark smiled on the inside as he read through the details. Although the EXP was nothing compared to what he had gotten in the cave itself, it was a great boost.

To get that much EXP he would have had to kill about seven monsters at level fifteen or higher.

"Yesss!" Olivia raised her hands as the screen appeared before her as well.

Eva smiled, before the smile faded. "It’s too bad that Esau and Sazan ended up that way..."

Ark had also filed an incident report about what had happened in the cave. It was a mix of lies and truths, the story they had all decided to go with once they arrived.

She shook her head. Although they ended up as criminals, she still felt bad that they had died in such terrible ways.

To be eaten by a rock bear and torn to shreds by a monster... she could only imagine how their family would feel when they found out.

"So how are things with... Lady Freude?" Ark asked, changing the topic.

Eva’s face immediately flashed with rare anger. "You—" Her mouth opened, but she didn’t speak. "Do you know what you put me through?!"

Although she was clearly angry, her soft voice and tone made the interaction cute, rather than scary.

Ark was tempted to annoy her more just to see her in that state.

"Hey... why do I get the feeling you aren’t taking me seriously??"

"What? Of course I’m taking your scolding seriously!"

She pouted, then sighed. "Luckily, the wyverns are not something the guild can’t handle. And since she already shook to the deal..."

"It’s not luck, it’s my wisdom doing wonders."

Olivia and Thalia gave him blank stares.

"What?"

"Nothing." They said simultaneously.

"Now I know it is definitely something!"

"Uhum." Eva tried to fake cough to interrupt their conversation. It was a valiant effort, although it sounded more like a wheeze.

"Yes, Eva?" Ark turned his attention to her.

"I have to get going before the vice guild master finds out I’m gone." She rubbed a ring on her finger and a bag suddenly appeared out of thin air.

"Is that a spatial ring?" Ark asked. Natives did not have access to the system, so they needed spatial rings to make moving items much easier.

But spatial rings were extremely expensive and difficult to acquire...

She smiled and nodded. "It was a gift from Lady Freude... apparently, all representatives have one."

"That’s great!" Olivia chimed in. "Did she increase your salary too?" She asked with an excited smile on her face.

Eva nodded shyly. "She did—"

"Congratulations!" Olivia suddenly hugged her out of nowhere, which caused her eyes to widen slightly. "You looked so skinny that I was wondering if you ate properly..."

Eva laughed heartily. "We had to ration food. But now, I have enough to take care of my family..."

Beep Beep—!

Her ring suddenly began to flash red.

Eva’s face paled a bit. "Ah, it looks like Lady Freude is looking for me!"

She hurriedly handed the bag to Ark. "The ten million will be transferred to your account in a few days!" She added while already running back towards the guild.

Ark shook the sack and it jiggled. "Don’t tell me, is this..."

He pulled it open only to be greeted by multiple golden coins.

"Ahahahaha! Finally, my money is here!"

While credits in the real world were in the form of bills, here in Eden they were made of a special mix of gold, silver and mythril.

The ratio at which they were mixed determined the worth of the coin.

There were only three denominations. A one-credit coin, a ten-credit coin and a twenty-credit coin...

Inside the bag was a note detailing how much everything had cost. And in total, he had made—

Ark’s jaw suddenly dropped open.

Thalia picked the paper from his hand and read through it. "Two hundred thousand credits... that seems about right."

"How is it that easy?" Was she trying to tell him that from their one week adventurer, he had made his sisters five years’ income?

Thalia raised a brow. "Guild master..."

Ark felt he would never not feel giddy whenever he was called that.

Thalia continued. "Did you forget you almost died more than once on the mission?"

’Oh. That is true...’ Even Olivia had nearly been trampled to death.

"Besides, the only reason we made this much was because you guys stumbled into a hidden event."

More than half of the money they made had been due to hidden events... it was to be expected, hidden events were known to be rather lucrative.

"Although..." Thalia’s tail swayed left and right. "I have been meaning to ask... where did you get all these bear hides from?"

When Ark finished explaining, Olivia gave him a long stare.

"So during your watch... you actually went out and hunted rockbear in their territory..."

He nodded. "I couldn’t bear to let them live in peace."

Olivia’s face twisted with disgust. "Are you seriously making uncle jokes now?"

She shook her head and pointed a finger at him, while her other hand rested on her waist. "I really hope you don’t get yourself killed one of these days!"

"Don’t worry, I will bear the consequences of my actions alone."

Naturally, that included the money he made from those hides!

Thalia shook her head before resting her forehead in her hand. She secretly prayed that the jokes were a phase that would not go beyond that day.

Beep—Beep—!

The annoying sound of a call began playing inside Ark’s head. Wasn’t there a way to mute it or something?

The name appeared in front of him a second later.

— Tristan.

Ark sighed. Of course Tristan knew he was back, he wondered just how many spies he had littered all over the place.

"I’ll be back in a bit, I have to take this call."

Ark began jogging away when he paused and jogged back to Thalia. He grabbed the bag of coins and handed them some.

"You guys can get something to drink while you wait." He said before running into the nearby alley.

Olivia stared at the direction he had left in. "It looks like our dear skeleton has a few bones in his cupboard."

"Please." Thalia had an exasperated look on her face. "No more jokes, I feel like my synchronization rate is going to rise..."

Olivia swallowed. "Hehe... sure thing."

Ark answered the call once he found a proper spot to speak.

"What is it?"

"Why are always so you cold towards me? A proper response would be hello—"

"I have things to do you know?"

"..."

"Alright then. Let’s get straight to business."

A few seconds passed in silence before Tristan spoke once more.

"First of all, congratulations on completing your first quest in Eden. Now that you are back, there is a lot we need to talk about..."

"The first is about what you discovered in the cave, and the second... is about Evernight."

’Evernight? Did they already gather new information about them in the short time he was away?’

"Meet me at the top of the hero’s statue at midnight. Some things are best spoken in person..."

The line went dead and Ark checked the time. It was 11:50...

"That bastard!" He immediately dashed out of the alley, leaving the place empty.

And then after a few seconds, a head peeked out from within the wall, and a woman stepped out, calmly following the trace he had left behind...

She did not breathe, speak or even react. She simply followed after Ark, a look of stark determination in her eyes.
