Endless Evolution As A Skeleton In A Game-Like World
Chapter 128: [128] Divine JudgmentSwish!
Ark lashed out with his katana, the sword cleaving right into the fur of an obsidian wolf.
The blade met resistance; it was as though he was cutting through fur made of steel, but it soon burst out of the other side, sending steaming, hot blood filtering into the air.
[You have slain a level 12 Obsidian Wolf! +15 EXP]
Ark flung the blood off his blade and stared at the monsters in front of him.
Their goal was to slay the giant, but of course it wasn’t that easy. Despite how barren and anti-life the terrain was, there were still countless monsters inhabiting it.
And one of them was the treacherous obsidian wolf.
They had teeth strong enough to puncture steel and spiky fur that was as tough as iron.
Two large eyes sat at both sides of their head, and their mouth was frothing with saliva as they stared at their party.
Ark stretched his arms.
Worse of all, these monsters propagated like rabbits, they had already slain dozens of them, and yet there were more than a hundred left.
They crawled down the jagged terrain, some standing atop small hills, while others slowly stalked towards them, a low sonorous growl escaping their maws.
The fools were aura farming...
"They aren’t strong individually, but their teeth are dangerous," Thalia said in a calm tone. "One bite is enough to tear off a limb."
"That is precisely what makes it fun." Olivia laughed.
"We can’t allow them to surround us, let’s switch to a triangular formation," Ark instructed.
They needed to cleave a path through the wolves, but they could not afford to get injured at the very first challenge.
"Come out."
His shadows sprang out of the floor around him, their eyes glowing an azure blue as they stared at the threat before them.
While Ark stood in front, Olivia and Thalia stood at his sides, and then they descended into the madness.
A wolf pounced at Ark, aiming for his feet, but he raised his leg and stomped down on its head, hard, just before he cleaved it off.
He charged forward, the world blurring around him as he moved like a dark shadow.
And then as his feet were grinding to a halt, he raised his blade, positioning it on his shoulders, just before twisting his body and flinging the weapon.
Schkkkk!
Blood and gore splashed into the air, but two other wolves jumped right through the mess, their mouths wide open.
Ark grabbed the first wolf by the neck, and then he shoved its head into the mouth of the second, forcing them to kiss themselves with their crooked teeth
Just before he sent their heads rolling across the floor.
"This terrain..." Ark hissed through gritted teeth. "Olivia really outdid herself."
She had not simply picked out the area because it looked cool. The closer they moved towards the volcano at the center of the barren land, the greater the physical strain on their bodies was.
The force on their shoulders, and the weight on their mind was slowly accumulating, dulling their movement.
This acted like resistance training, which meant if they trained here for long, when they left they would be much faster!
A large wolf let out a deafening howl as it locked eyes with Ark. The wolf was about the size of a car, and its teeth were so long that they could no longer fit its mouth.
’An alpha? No...’ Ark mused. Despite its size, it was not strong enough to be the alpha.
He raised a hand and ushered it forward.
"Come!"
The wolf snarled and began its sprint, its claws leaving deep grooves in the ground with each step. Once it was close enough, it leaped into the air—
Ark chuckled darkly as he took his stance, one knee bent forward, and his katana resting in its hilt. And then—
FWOOOOOSH—!
The wolf suddenly whined as it was consumed by a raging ball of blue fire. It crumpled to the floor, its body a mess of charred flesh.
Ark turned around and gave his summon a deadpan stare.
"Jenna, I had that!"
She cocked her head to the side, staring at him innocently, just before she began forming another spell.
Ark let out a breath... he couldn’t fault his summon for protecting her master.
Still...
"I really wanted to try out that move..."
His eyes drifted down to the charred body of the wolf and he frowned internally. How was it possible that they were affected by her flames?
These wolves lived in the midst of an active volcano, there was no doubt that they were heat resistant, and yet her flames had burned right through them.
’Does it have anything to do with the colour?’
He had always wondered why a summon would be able to use blue fire, but he had never really figured it out.
Despite how curious Ark was, there was no time to sit on his thoughts. More wolves were charging towards their group.
There were too many for him to engage with his sword, and Ark did not want to give them any ground, so he transformed his katana into a magic staff.
Tzzz—!
Blue lightning danced around the black rod, flickering in the air with an electric hiss.
Ark saw a spark of yellow lightning as Olivia walked up to his side. Her body was covered in blood, and her wings were bright with currents.
"Together?" She asked with a crazed smirk.
Ark nodded. "I see why not."
The world was brightened by sparks of blue and yellow, the lightning swirling around each other with devastating vigour.
Ark stretched his staff forward, while Olivia raised her hand, and then together they said;
"Chain lightning."
BANG!
Green lightning rippled forward, reducing the wolves to charred pieces of flesh. Heads were sent flying, limbs cascaded into the air, intestines rolled over the ground, and a huge, smothering gash was left in its wake.
Just one spell, and more than twenty wolves had been killed in an instant.
But there were more...
Like cockroaches, more of the wolves poured out of their crevices, racing towards them.
It was like the beasts knew no fear, their hearts had been blackened by the flames, and their sensibility burned away by countless years of living amidst the fire.
But Ark would teach them to know fear. He would make them understand that sometimes, running was not just the best option, it was the only option.
He opened his mouth wide, and glowing orbs of light began to float around him, darting around his head like fireflies, just before concentrating on his mouth.
The region did not only make movement difficult, it also made forming spells much harder than they were meant to be.
Ark felt his concentration nearly break, and the light dimmed for a moment.
But he sharpened his mind, he planted his foot forward, and then he stared at the approaching monsters.
Despite the cloudiness in his mind, despite the weight that threatened to bring him to his knees...
Dark laughter escaped his mouth, and his eyes burned like pits of fire.
Just before a wave of light followed—
"Wave Of Pulverizing Light!"
A large beam of blue-black light burst out of Ark’s mouth, frying the wolves that dared to come close, even those that were far away were not spared.
The rocks at the point of contact were melted, as the pillar of light continued to follow a path, disintegrating wolf after wolf, culling the pack.
The wolves stared at the pillar of light with wide eyes, watching helplessly as their kin were slain like rats.
They had inhabited these lands for centuries, and not once had they ever encountered such a terrifying force.
This... this must be a judgment from the gods!
The leader of the pack, a hulking wolf the size of an SUV, took a step back. It was the first time it had ever moved in the opposite direction of its prey.
No... it had to move forward!
AWOOOOO!
By its command, five of its most elite warriors charged forward, racing after the skeleton. They were disintegrated before they could even open their maws.
Fear gripped the leader’s heart.
His opponent was no ordinary foe... an incarnation of death... that was what they faced!
It turned around to flee, only to slam into something, and when it looked up, the wolf trembled in fear.
A lamia stood before it, staring down at it with slit pupils filled with bloodlust.
Slash!
The world was suddenly inverted, and the wolf alpha felt as though a burden had been lifted from it.
Plop...
Its head rolled onto the ground, just before coming to a stop—
Splat!
Thalia slammed her tail into it, reducing its head to a bloody sneer on the floor.
Behind her were countless other wolves that had tried to escape, chopped up into countless little pieces.
Blood dripped down the side of her cheek as she folded her arms and moved forward, her face an expressionless mask.
"Ark will be mad if any of them escapes..."
There were more wolves to hunt.
