Endless Evolution As A Skeleton In A Game-Like World

Chapter 99: [99] Vice Guildmaster With A Gold Fetish [Golden Ticket Bonus]

Whispers began to spread through the guild...

— Shit. The Vice guild master actually came down?

— She hates it when anyone messes with her income... I feel sorry for that guy.

— Why? He came here throwing his weight around. By the time Lady Freude is done with him, he will learn to mind his business.

— But the skeleton guy seemed pretty strong, right?

— Shut up, you butt head. The Vice guild master can disintegrate a player like him in seconds...

Ark listened to the NPC-like discussions and shook his head, before meeting the vice guild master’s gaze once more.

"I corrected an error." He said plainly. "It seems you’re too busy counting your stacks of gold to pay proper attention to this place."

The guild hall grew silent. The adventurers were shocked by his clear lack of decorum.

Freude frowned slightly. "If you had a problem with a staff member, you should have turned in a complaint."

"Do you think you can just walk up to anyone you are offended with and beat them to a pulp?"

"It has worked so far, so yes? Violence needs to be practiced by those who seek fairness in the world, unless people like her will think we have all lost our limbs."

Lady Freude shook her head. "And yet by practicing this violence, you have become a violent person as well. Tell me, what do you intend to gain by continuing the cycle?"

"Are you saying violence has no place in establishing a just society?" Ark questioned. "A fool chooses to be a pacifist. Leaders choose the language as old as time."

He glanced around. "Even your very guild is based on that law. Tell me... do you talk to the monsters you go out to hunt?"

Lady Freude was growing more irritated by the second. How was it that he always had a snarky comeback for all her points?

She was well aware that there was discrimination going on between the players and the natives.

But she needed to allow the natives to take action by reporting.

If they could not grow spines of their own, then it did not matter if she helped them now, they would only get bullied in another place.

"Are you comparing humans to animals? Are you saying we can only understand the sword and staff?"

"Humans are animals. The moral humans hide their animalistic nature better than others. The violent humans are more open with their animalistic nature."

Ark scoffed.

"Animals do not understand common language. I would assume someone of your status would know that."

Thalia pinched Olivia’s elbow, drawing her attention to her. "Shouldn’t we stop him?!" She sharply whispered.

"Huh, why?"

"Don’t you know who he is arguing with? Lady Veronica is known as the Calamity Fae. She is ranked among the global top fifty!"

"Eh?" Olivia’s eyes widened. "Are you serious?"

"What will a child like you know about anything? Even when we choose violence, it is calculated violence!" Veronica was slowly losing her cool, and she hated it...

But that stoic, never-changing face pissed her off even more.

"Ha! And what is the difference between calculated violence and regular violence? You are just polishing it up to look pretty!"

"Shut up!" Lady Freude stamped her foot on the floor, her face beet red. "I’m several hundred years your elder, so I am right, the elder is always right!"

’I swear to God!’ Lady Freude thought. ’One more word, and I’ll make this kid disappear!’

"My elder? Ha! You must be a big foo—"

Before Ark could finish his statement, Olivia suddenly grabbed his right hand and clamped his mouth shut, while Thalia wrapped her tail around his body and began pulling him back.

"Mmm— mmm!"

(Translation: Let me go, let me talk some sense into that old woman!)

"Sorry, I’m afraid our friend is possessed by an evil spirit." Thalia apologized. "We’ll get him to the temple immediately!"

Lady Freude frowned as she watched them drag him away.

"Tch." She adjusted her long, black gown, and the witch’s hat that was resting above her red hair, before turning to leave.

’I can’t believe I was arguing with a kid...’ She sighed. Then she glanced at Stephanie, who immediately averted her gaze.

’See me later...’ She spoke right into the woman’s mind, and she stiffened, before nodding slowly.

As she began to walk towards the stairs, the adventurers that had gathered quickly ran out of the way for fear that she would unleash her anger on them.

But while trying to evade her, one of them tripped and spilled his cup of ale right in her direction.

Freude glanced at him, and the ale that was still in the air, as well as the adventurer, were engulfed by light, just before they both vanished.

Smoke oozed out of the floor, the guild grew still... Then she continued her walk, her footsteps sounding louder than they should have.

She had already climbed up the first few steps when she heard Ark complain, "But we can’t leave yet, I still haven’t sold mana stones."

Her pointy ears twitched.

"I also haven’t sold the best hide I got, my inventory is already full, and Mountain is holding the rest of them outside..."

Her ears twitched again...

"You can just sell them in the black market, or we can come another day!" Thalia complained. "Do you want to get killed because of money?"

Ark let out an annoyed grunt. "How much would they sell for in the black market—"

The space in front of them shimmered, and Lady Freude suddenly appeared, blocking the exit with a dark look in her eyes.

Thalia immediately felt dread fill her heart. "Lady Freude... w-we were just about to leave—"

"Wait, wait, wait. Let’s not be rash." She smiled brightly. "Why are you leaving so early?"

Olivia glanced at Thalia, before looking back at the woman. "Aren’t you mad at Ark?" The woman looked about ready to kill him back then...

"Me, angry? Pfft." She waved her hand dismissively. "It was just a little... discussion between an elder and a child. I was simply educating him—"

Although Lady Freude looked like she was in her early twenties, she was actually hundreds of years old.

Ark was not sure if she was part of the first generation, but she had certainly met a lot of them.

Still, elder or not, some things had to be said.

"I was the one educating yo—" Thalia’s tail wrapped around Ark’s mouth.

"Uhum." Lady Freude cleared her throat. "Anyways, there is no issue."

Thalia bowed. "Thank you for your kindness."

They tried to leave, but Lady Freude stepped in front of them.

"Umm, Lady Freude?"

’And where do you think you are taking my money, you rascals!!’ Freude thought.

She stared at Ark, her eyes practically glittering, and with a wide, weird smile on her lips, she asked.

"Now, about those beast hides you had for sale...."
