Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1937: Endless Spears and the Right Decision

The main feature of the black spear was that it could never miss. It wasn’t a matter of its speed or accuracy, but rather that the black spear would keep changing its trajectory until the target was struck.

The Glare of Final Determination was a somewhat unique case, as it was one of two abilities shared with Silvana, but it was also a dark version of another ability – Future of the Past.

So, the black spear changed, just like the white spears, but they weren’t as significant as those of the white spears.

The black spear simply became better, across the board.

Previously, the black spear was always a single entity. If it couldn’t hit its target, it would gradually increase its speed, but even if that proved insufficient, the black spear would begin to teleport along a line with the target.

This continued until the black spear reached its limit, which was reflected by the crimson energy resembling a flame emanating from the tip and the back.

Then, the black spear returned to Adam’s grip, and the red eyes on his gloves placed yet another mark on his opponent – this time, the final one.

But it was quite possible that this wouldn’t be enough against Midgar. He could withstand a single strike from the spear and then continue the fight.

Adam was prepared for this, which was exactly why he had saved the black spear for the end of their battle.

“No matter how hard he tries, he won’t succeed.” Adam’s calm gaze watched Midgar. “Sooner or later, my spear will reach him.”

Whoooooosh!

Midgar flew to the side, dodging the second black spear, just as a third appeared above him.

“What the…?”

In disbelief, he looked up, his eyes trembling as he couldn’t understand how this ability worked.

‘Are you telling me that every time I dodge, another spear will appear?’

His eyes darted to Adam.

‘What’s more, he isn’t expending any energy on this. It’s all already built into the ability from the start…’

Three black spears trembled as they froze in place. They were about to attack Midgar simultaneously.

Midgar’s pupils widened as realization struck him.

“Wait…” he muttered as the spears headed toward him. “If I dodge now, there’ll be six of them, won’t there? Then twelve, twenty-four, and… it’ll keep going until there are too many…”

Everyone had their limits, and Midgar realized he wasn’t capable of dodging dozens of spears. It was impossible for him.

So, he came to the only correct choice:

‘I have to let them hit me right now. I have to block at least some of the damage. That will be enough for me to recover quickly and continue the fight. He won’t have enough Dark Energy for another attack, I’m sure of it.’

Midgar made his decision and immediately set about carrying out his plan.

He gripped his poleaxe tighter, pressing it against his chest.

The gray energy flows surged upward as three dragon heads appeared beside Midgar. He made the dragons take the form of shields for him, protecting him from three directions.

He didn’t have enough time to create a better defense, but for now, this was the best he could do. If he dodged now instead of taking the blow head-on, he would then have to defend himself against six spears at once.

Adam narrowed his eyes, and even Silvana was confused.

“Oh… He figured it out faster than you expected, didn’t he?”

Adam nodded slowly.

“Yeah. Well, he’s been through a lot of battles, so he has a wealth of experience and honed instincts. Still, it’s a little frustrating that he figured it all out so quickly.”

“However…”

“He shouldn’t count on that making my spears any weaker.”

Tap.

Adam extended his arm forward and clenched it sharply into a fist.

The red eyes on his gloves glowed brightly, and the same happened to the black spears. A seal appeared in front of each spear as they grew significantly larger and longer, while a crimson flame engulfed them.

All Midgar had time to do before the collision was to channel all his energy into the dragon shields, as that was the only thing that could save him.

In the blink of an eye, the three black spears crashed into Midgar, exploding in a bright flash.

BLAST!

A shockwave rippled across the rocky plain as gusts of wind sweeping away from the battlefield reached even the watching Lords in the distance.

The crimson-and-black flame billowed in a massive cloud above the surface as everyone waited to see the aftermath of Adam’s attack.

“Gha… Gha… Gha…”

Midgar’s heavy breathing could be heard as the next gust of wind revealed his silhouette.

His cloak had been torn in half, exposing his left side. Blood was streaming down his chest and shoulder, and several dark trickles were running along his forehead toward his eyes.

Still, he held his weapon in his hand. His poleaxe was still with him and had sustained no damage. Even the explosion of the three black spears wasn’t enough to damage the Viscount’s Arc.

Adam grew wary, and for the first time since the battle began, his expression turned serious.

He was certain that Midgar would lose a limb or at least suffer a serious wound that would prevent him from continuing to fight, but that didn’t happen.

“He’s wounded, he’s covered in wounds, but that’s not enough to make him stop. What’s more… It seems he’s finally felt the fear of death.”

“Argh…” Midgar growled as his aura slowly grew. “It hurts so much, it fucking hurts!”

The gray currents coursed through his body, but even they would take quite some time to heal his wounds.

“But… Now I’ve seen your limit, Adam Vinter. And… This is the end for you.”

Tremble!

Midgar’s body trembled as he vanished from Adam’s field of vision.

The next moment, Midgar appeared before Adam as the broad blade of his poleaxe plunged deep into Adam’s shoulder.

“It’s time to end this, Adam Vinter.”
