Endless Extraction in a Game-Like World
Chapter 364: Hemotoxin Synthesis, Decay Touch and The Dungeon Master ProfessionSylvia’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she looked at her remaining skills.
"I also got a new talent from the Golden Pill. I should get the skills from it and sacrifice them if they’re useless."
She activated her Ice Manipulation talent that Rachel had helped her develop.
Four new skills materialized in her skill list.
[Ding! You’ve acquired the Skill: Frost Lance (Rare, 4-Star)]
[Ding! You’ve acquired the Skill: Ice Prison (Epic, 4-Star)]
[Ding! You’ve acquired the Skill: Frozen Ground (Rare, 4-Star)]
[Ding! You’ve acquired the Skill: Glacial Burst (Rare, 4-Star)]
Sylvia examined them briefly, then nodded to herself.
"These are decent, but I can get something better."
She activated Token of Exchange once more.
[Skills Sacrificed: Frost Lance, Frozen Ground, Glacial Burst, Stone Shield]
[Generating New Skill...]
[Ding! You’ve acquired the Skill: Hemotoxin Synthesis (Legendary, 4-Star)]
[Hemotoxin Synthesis: Alters the chemical structure of your blood on the fly. Blood constructs and projectiles can be transformed into highly corrosive acid or paralytic neurotoxins.]
Sylvia smiled widely at the result.
Now she was becoming more and more like a True Vampire.
Caelus watched her with an amused smile, then looked at his own newly acquired skills.
He didn’t need Flame Arrow or Earth Spike, they were too basic for his fighting style.
He activated his own Token of Exchange.
[Skills Sacrificed: Flame Arrow, Earth Spike, Thunder Palm]
[Generating New Skill...]
[Ding! You’ve acquired the Skill: Decay Touch (Epic, 4-Star)]
[Decay Touch: Everything you touch with this skill active will rapidly decay and rot. Living tissue, armor, weapons, structures. All will wither.]
Caelus raised an eyebrow at this skill.
That was a strange one.
He could genuinely start killing people or even decay an entire planet with this.
It’s power would only increase with his rank.
Just as he finished examining his new abilities, his phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the caller ID.
It was Candy.
"Hello?"
"Caelus, something happened." Candy’s voice came through the speaker. "Remember that guy who asked about you before? The guy covered in gold head to toe?"
Caelus’s expression shifted slightly.
He remembered that man, he was the guy working in shadows, tipping people off about crucial things.
He had never really found anything about him till now. It was really strange.
"Yeah, what about him?"
"He approached me again, he told me about a dungeon." Candy continued. "I went inside and found a special reward. It was an inheritance from an old Dungeon Master from a planet called Iris."
"Wait, you got the Dungeon Master profession?"
"Yes, and I also reached King Rank from the inheritance inside."
Caelus was taken aback by her words.
"What’s up with this guy? Why did he tip off this information?"
"I have No idea." Candy admitted. "But I’m not complaining, the rewards were good."
"Did he ask you for something?"
"Nothing."
Caelus thought for a moment.
"Come over to my place, I want to hear more about this."
"Sure, I’ll be there soon."
The call ended.
Sylvia looked at Caelus curiously.
"Who was that?"
"Candy, she got the Dungeon Master profession."
"Oh?" Sylvia’s eyes widened with interest.
About twenty minutes later, a knock came at the door.
Caelus opened it to find Candy standing there with her usual expression while chewing bubblegum.
"Come in."
She walked inside and sat on the sofa across from them.
Caelus didn’t waste time with small talk.
"Tell me how the Dungeon Master profession works."
He wanted to know how different it was compared to the Abyss.
Candy nodded and began explaining.
"Dungeon Masters can steal Mana from other worlds through existing gates. Once we accumulate 10,000 Mana, we can open a new server."
"Right now, I’m only making 50 Mana per attempt because my dungeon is at Rookie Rank."
"The problem is my dungeons keep getting destroyed by players. I need to find other planets to place them so I can mine Mana more efficiently."
Caelus leaned forward with interest. It was quite similar to the Abyss after all.
"What about customization? How does that work?"
"I can place down traps and choose the layout. Straight cave-type, maze-type, and circular-type and more." Candy listed off the options. "I can also add spawners for monsters and decorations to make it look better."
’So it’s the same. Just that the total mana gained is lesser and more accurate to the rank.’ Caelus mused in his mind.
He turned toward Sylvia, then back to Candy.
"Do you know any other Dungeon Masters?"
Candy shook her head.
"No, I haven’t met any others yet."
"Alright." Caelus nodded as a new plan formed in his mind.
"Hey Candy, I want to fight you."
Candy fell silent hearing the abrupt challenge but she didn’t mind it.
"Sure. We can fight."
This was what Caelus liked about her, she didn’t question why, she just accepted it without beating around the bush.
Caelus initiated the arena challenege immediately.
[Challenge Initiated: Caelus Kross vs Candy]
They were transported to a white arena space.
Caelus had a specific reason for this fight, he was going to extract her profession.
If he willed it hard enough, his extraction ability should eventually succeed.
The first fight ended quickly, Caelus won without much effort.
But he didn’t get anything.
He frowned slightly.
"Again."
The second fight commenced.
Candy attacked with her skills, but Caelus countered each one easily.
He won again.
He still got nothing.
"One more time."
The third fight began.
[Extraction Failed]
Caelus clicked his tongue in annoyance.
He didn’t even get her skill or talent, but he believed that was because he was focused on her profession.
"Again."
Fourth fight.
[Extraction Failed]
Fifth fight.
[Extraction Failed]
Sixth fight.
Finally, there was a change..
[Ding! Extraction Successful!]
[You have extracted: Dungeon Master Profession
Caelus grinned with satisfaction seeing this..
He immediately used Token Creation on the profession.
[Dungeon Master Token Created]
He tossed the token to Sylvia, who caught it with a confused expression.
Then he turned back to Candy.
"We need to fight more."
If he wasn’t wrong, since he no longer held the profession, he should be able to extract it again.
They fought more.
[Ding! Extraction Successful!]
[You have extracted: Dungeon Master Profession (Rookie Rank)]
His theory was correct, he could indeed get the profession once again as long as he didn’t have it.
He converted it into another token.
And after several more attempts, he finally got a third extraction.
[Dungeon Master Token Created]
Caelus now held three Dungeon Master tokens in his hands.
This should be enough.
He then looked at Candy with a smile.
"You should join my faction."
Candy raised an eyebrow at his words.
"I’m already part of my guild."
Caelus frowned hearing her.
"Hm... Does being a guild member stop you from being a faction member?"
Candy thought about it for a moment.
"I don’t know, but the guild system works similarly to the faction system. Just a degraded version since the threshold to become a faction leader is much higher."
Caelus nodded and decided to test it.
He sent her a faction invite.
[Candy has joined Chaos Faction]
And luckily it worked.
Guild membership didn’t conflict with faction membership.
Caelus then looked at Candy seriously.
"Candy, you need to delete your Dungeon Master profession."
As he said that, he tossed the third token to her.
"You can regain the profession with this token and If you regain the profession through this token, it should be at King Rank instead of Rookie Rank."
Candy stared at the token in her hands, then glanced back at Caelus.
"I was wondering why you kept telling me to fight. So it was for this?" Her eyes narrowed slightly. "You can extract professions and turn them into tokens?"
Caelus just smiled faintly at her deduction.
"Something like that."
Candy didn’t ask any more questions.
She deleted her current Dungeon Master profession without hesitation.
Then she used the token.
[Ding! You have acquired: Dungeon Master Profession (King Rank)]
Her eyes widened at the notification.
"It actually worked."
Caelus nodded with satisfaction, then turned to Sylvia.
"Let’s also become Dungeon Masters."
But to his surprise, Sylvia shook her head.
"Nah, I don’t wanna. It’s too much work." She leaned against him lazily. "I want some other profession, like potion making or being a builder."
"I suddenly want to build things."
Caelus chuckled at her response.
"Alright, I don’t mind that. I won’t force you."
"Let’s take the builder profession from Mason and get one for you."
Since Sylvia didn’t want it, he wouldn’t push her.
He instead used one of the tokens on himself.
[Ding! You have acquired: Dungeon Master Profession (King Rank)]
[Welcome to the Dungeon Master Profession!]
[You are officially at King Rank.]
[You have unlocked the following options:]
[- Traps]
[- Layout]
[- Decorations]
[- Spawners]
[All purchases are made with Origin Credits.]
"Oh? Origin Credits?"
Back in the Abyss, everything was bought with Reputation Points.
Here, it was Origin Credits, which made things much more accessible but it was also more expensive.
He decided to start with the layout.
[Layout Options]
[Straight Cave-Type: 50,000 Origin Credits per floor]
[Maze-Type: 80,000 Origin Credits per floor]
[Multi-Branch: 120,000 Origin Credits per floor]
He selected the Straight Cave-Type with three floors.
[Cost: 150,000 Origin Credits]
[Remaining Origin Credits: 657,875]
Next, he moved to traps.
[Trap Options]
[Spike Trap: 5,000 Origin Credits each]
[Gravity Reversal Trap: 25,000 Origin Credits each]
[Floor Collapse Trap: 15,000 Origin Credits each]
[Poison Mist Trap: 10,000 Origin Credits each]
[Blade Wall Trap: 20,000 Origin Credits each]
Caelus’s grin turned evil.
He placed ten Gravity Reversal traps throughout the dungeon, these would fling players up to the third floor where hidden bosses waited.
[Cost: 250,000 Origin Credits]
[Remaining Origin Credits: 407,875]
He added fifteen Spike Traps scattered across all floors.
[Cost: 75,000 Origin Credits]
[Remaining Origin Credits: 332,875]
Ten Floor Collapse Traps went in next.
[Cost: 150,000 Origin Credits]
[Remaining Origin Credits: 182,875]
Then he moved to spawners.
[Spawner Options]
[Normal Mob Spawner: 10,000 Origin Credits each]
[Elite Mob Spawner: 30,000 Origin Credits each]
[Hidden Boss Spawner: 50,000 Origin Credits each]
[Final Boss Spawner: 100,000 Origin Credits each]
He placed two Hidden Boss Spawners on the third floor.
One was a Gravity Golem that could manipulate the weight of everything around it.
The other was a Shadow Stalker that hunted players through the darkness.
[Cost: 100,000 Origin Credits]
[Remaining Origin Credits: 82,875]
One Hidden Boss went in the basement floor, a Space Serpent that could phase through walls.
[Cost: 50,000 Origin Credits]
[Remaining Origin Credits: 32,875]
Finally, he placed the Final Boss at the end of the ground floor.
A Spirit Elemental that randomly switched between fire, ice, lightning, and poison attacks.
[Cost: Insufficient Origin Credits]
Caelus clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"Looks like I’ve used up my Origin Credits."
He decided to borrow a few from Sylvia and placed down the Final Boss.
But this was just one dungeon.
He could place three more dungeons but he didn’t have enough credits.
He would need to dip into the funds from the Origin Ore Mine.
Of course, he still had to pay his miners their daily wages, but that could be dealt with.
The taxes would be here the day after tomorrow when the new month began.
That money would cover the payouts.
For now, he decided to place his dungeon.
A King-Rank dungeon would effectively give him 5,000 Mana per clear.
That was a hundred times more efficient than Candy’s Rookie-Rank dungeons.
He opened the placement interface and searched through the available worlds.
His eyes landed on one particular option.
[Planet Aethoria]
A wicked grin spread across his face.
He remembered the StarForgeEmpress, she was from this planet if he remembered correctly.
Without hesitation, he placed his dungeon right in the middle of her territory.
[Dungeon Placed: Planet Aethoria]
[Mana Collection: Active]
Caelus laughed evilly.
"That’s what you get for being annoying."
Then, a new notification appeared.
